Netflix CEO Says Dave Chappelle’s Special Doesn’t Cross “The Line on Hate” in Internal Memo

Last week, Dave Chappelle drew backlash for continuing his pattern of making derogatory jokes about transgender people in his Netflix special The Closer, but for now the streamer’s co-CEO Ted Sarandos is standing by his cash cow. In an internal memo obtained by Variety, Sarandos vowed not to pull the special from Netflix, citing creative freedom. He also stated that the stand-up special doesn’t cross the company’s “line on hate” and delineated the “different standard of speech” that applies to stand-up compared to what is allowed internally. “Chapelle is one of the most popular stand-up comedians today, and we have a long standing deal with him,” wrote Sarandos. “His last special Sticks & Stones, also controversial, is our most watched, stickiest, and most award winning stand-up s...

James Blake Reunites with slowthai for “Funeral” Remix: Stream

James Blake has recruited slowthai for a remix of “Funeral,” a track from Blake’s newly released fifth studio album, Friends That Break Your Heart. In this new version, Blake’s second verse is substituted with a restrained feature from the UK rapper. “I never been one for horror movies,” slowthai spits. “I fall asleep under your tongue, I hope you choose me/ The shadow silhouetting the sun, I’m glued to your feet/ I live in the shadows of, mmm, under the loose leaves.” Otherwise, the remix remains largely unchanged from the original. To accompany the reworked track, Blake shared a black-and-white music video capturing the somber tone of “Funeral.” Watch the full clip below ahead of the duo’s debut performance of the song on the episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon airing on Mo...

Elderbrook Explores Life, Love and Longing on New EP, “Innerlight”: Listen

“You want to dance. I want to lead,” croons dance-electronica virtuoso Elderbrook at the top of his new EP, Innerlight. The lyric couldn’t be more fitting. Out October 9th via Big Beat Records, Innerlight is a four-track whirlwind of hypnotic synths, house-adjacent ballads and atmospheric dance breaks. At its best, it’s a refined level-up from Elderbrook’s signature brand of euphoric dance-pop, leaning into layered song structures that move beyond his leading vocal lines. The project’s titular single with Bob Moses, for example, twists and turns with anticipative piano builds and weighty bass beats across its moody soundscape. “Dominoes” (with Louis the Child) glows with muted synth tones and a textured percussion line while &#...
