HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Tim Mosenfelder / Getty It’s been more than 20 years since the untimely death of Hip-Hop icon, The Notorious B.I.G., but his music and legacy has endured especially with OG Hip-Hoppers like Steven Cartoccio. For a while now Cartoccio has been releasing some amazing Hip-Hop statuettes via his Concrete Jungle Studios imprint including a Sean Price with the Infinity Gauntlet, a Ghostface Killah with a robotic arm, and a Raekwon The Chef with a translucent purple arm holding the legendary purple tape amongst other rappers. Now the talented sculptor has decided to pay homage to the OG King of New York, Frank White a.k.a. The Notorious B.I.G. While there have been a few Biggie figures made in the past by companies like Mezco and Funko, this would be the first N...

Envision Festival Postponed to 2023

Yes, you read that right: 2023. The pandemic put a damper on countless music festivals in 2020 and 2021 but as of late, live events have been able to return by implementing enhanced safety measures, such as mandating prospective attendees to provide proof of vaccination or a recent negative COVID-19 test. As music festival organizers continue to navigate the complexities of COVID-19 restrictions, some feel it’s still too soon to return.  Costa Rica’s beloved Envision Festival initially postponed their 2021 edition to February 21-28, 2022, informing all ticket-holders that it will be worth the wait. Unfortunately, Envisionaries will now have to wait an additional 370 days. Over the past several months, the fest’s organizers have ...

Baby Keem has confirmed that he has new, “very personal” music on the way. During his red carpet interview at the 2021 BET Hip Hop Awards, the pgLang artist shared that he’ll be back in the studio in a bit. “Right now, I’m on a little mental break right now. Just having some fun to myself, you know, experiencing the world,” Keem said. “But we going back in and we gon’ work on some new shit. New, personal, humble beginnings in the music. Tapping into what growing up was like. It’s going to be very personal.” The 20-year-old just released his latest studio album, The Melodic Blue, in early September. The 16-track project featured guest features from cousin Kendrick Lamar on “range brothers” and the previously-released single “family ties,” Travis Scott on the single “durag activity...

Dave Grohl Previews New Storyteller Memoir at Intimate Show in New York City: Recap

Dave Grohl has now joined the long list of musicians so successful, they had to compile all the details of their storied lives into a book. Dave Grohl: The Storyteller – Tales In Life & Music, Grohl’s first book, hit the shelves yesterday (October 5th), and to celebrate, he’s taking these stories on tour — sort of. Appearing at New York City’s Town Hall on Tuesday, October 5th (the second of five live dates promoting the book), Grohl essentially went through an oral history of his life, highlighting stories from the book alongside other personal anecdotes, and pausing throughout to play songs on two different guitars and (of course) a drum kit. As the audience filed in and Grohl took the stage, he sat on the floor, electric guitar in hand, and played along to The Beatles’ “Eight Days A...

Paul Stanley Sets New Timeframe for Final Show of KISS’ Farewell Tour

Paul Stanley has revealed new plans for KISS‘ ongoing “End of the Road” farewell tour, which the band now plans to wrap up in early 2023. The final outing was supposed to conclude with a July 17th, 2021, concert in New York City, but because the band essentially lost a year and a half to the pandemic, that timeframe has significantly shifted. “I believe strongly by the beginning of 2023 we will be finished,” Stanley told Ultimate Classic Rock, adding that KISS will likely stick with New York being the last city they play. “It seems only natural to be in New York. That is where the band started, and that was really the background for the band getting together and writing these songs and played loft parties and played clubs starting with an audience of probably 10 people. It seems we should ...

Pharrell Williams Pulls Something in the Water from Virginia Beach after Police Killed Cousin

Pharrell Williams will not be returning his music festival Something in the Water to his hometown of Virginia Beach in 2022, citing the city’s “toxic energy” and the March police killing of his 25-year-old cousin Donovan Lynch. The festival launched in 2019, but the 2020 and 2021 editions were cancelled due to COVID-19. Now, it seems the inaugural fest will be the only one held at Virginia Beach. “I love my city, but for far too long it has been run by and with toxic energy,” he wrote in an October 5th letter to Virginia Beach city manager Patrick Duhaney. “The toxic energy that changed the narrative several times around the homicide of my cousin, Donovan Lynch, a citizen of Virginia, is the same toxic energy that changed the narrative around the mass murder and senseless loss of life at B...

Robert Plant and Alison Krauss Share New Song “High and Lonesome”: Stream

Robert Plant and Alison Krauss did not write an original song for their Grammy-winning 2007 album Raising Sand, and 11 out of the 12 tracks on the upcoming sequel Raise the Roof are covers. But “High and Lonesome” is a novelty: an all-new tune, co-written by Plant and producer T Bone Burnett that’s as fun as anything in Plant’s recent discography. The bluesy track chugs along on a four-note guitar riff, accompanied by crisp drumming and occasionally punctuated by urgent smacks of hand claps. Plant triples-up phrases like, “I must find my love,” and “Does she still think of me,” putting a swanky little lean into the first word. Krauss and Burnett sing backup vocals, with the latter adding a ghostly whisper and the former flickering above Plant’s topline like smoke above a fire. Check o...

Netflix To Edit Out Phone Number From ‘Squid Game’

Netflix will be editing out the phone number from the business cards in Squid Game after several supposed owners claimed that they were receiving prank calls. “Together with the production company, we are working to resolve this matter, including editing scenes with phone numbers where necessary,” Netflix shared via Reuters. Reports also state that the streaming service and Squid Game producers Siren Pictures purposely only showed the last eight digits of the phone number, but they were unaware that the prefix will “automatically be added to complete the number.” Several people have stepped up to claim ownership over the phone number. The Korea Times reported that the number was owned by a businessman in his 40s living in the Gyeonggi Province, while Reuters pointed out that...

James Gunn Teases ‘Guardian of the Galaxy Holiday Special’ To Include “One of the Greatest MCU Characters”

The special will supposedly set up the events of third volume of Guardians of the Galaxy, which is intended to release in 2023. Gunn recently took to Twitter to reveal the title art for the Holiday Special, alongside the text, “In my incredibly subjective & admittedly often odd opinion, we’ll be introducing one of the greatest MCU characters of all time.” No further information was given in regards to who the character might be. Upon seeing the Tweet, many fans have begun speculating which of Marvel’s unseen characters will appear. Gunn has even responded to a few of them, denying that Howard the Duck and Longshot will be in...

Quentin Tarantino Reveals Why ‘Once Upon a Time’ Ending Was Different From the Novel

Quentin Tarantino has recently revealed the real reason why he chose to alter the film ending of Once Upon A Time…In Hollywood to differ from the novel. The particular scene in question pertains to the emotional phone call Leonardo Dicaprio’s character Rick Dalton has with Julia Butters’s Trudi Fraser. However, the film ultimately cut to Dalton’s focus on the Charles Manson murders instead. Tarantino explained his reasoning for the change in an interview with Empire, “There’s a reason it’s not in the movie. If you play that scene, that’s the end. You almost have to start the movie all over again.” The director also claimed that he knew quite early on that he wanted to change the ending stating, “The night of the murders was the epilogue. I even had ‘epilogue’ pop up before it starts. But w...
