UMG did not disclose financial terms for the deal. It marks the first time in two decades that the Spice Girls’ licensing rights across all channels have been assigned to a single partner. Bravado owner Universal Music Group holds the global rights to the Spice Girls’ recorded music catalog, which spans three studio albums — 1996’s Spice, 1997’s Spiceworld and 2000’s Forever – and 11 singles, although it doesn’t control their publishing rights. (Matt Rowe and Richard Stannard, who co-wrote many of the band’s biggest hits, including breakthrough hit “Wannabe,” are published by Universal Music Publishing Group, however). Later this month, Universal will release an expanded 25th anniversary edition of the Spice Girls’ debut album, Spice25, featuring previously unreleased songs, demos and mixe...
Meek Mill has unveiled an accompanying music video for his latest album’s title track, “Expensive Pain.” Directed by CartersVision, the visual offers a behind-the-scenes look at the artist’s life with his friends, impressive cars and the people he helps. In a recent interview with Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe, Mill revealed that the title is one of his favorites at the moment. “This season right here, if I could tell you the truth, I never really was smoking weed my whole life because I was on probation. When I used to be 18, I was a young kid caught up in a trap house in the basement, smoking weed, writing my raps. That’s the real spirit of Meek Mill when I really took rap serious,” he explained. “Now I’m back in the studio smoking freely, I’m not on probation, it unlocked the real art side ...

The Burning Man Project is selling art to help fund their long-term goal of bringing Black Rock City to life year after year. For the past few days, organizers behind the legendary desert event have been hosting an auction on the prestigious auction house Sotheby’s to raise money for their nonprofit organization. The lot includes work by 180 artists from all over the world who were inspired by the event and features everything from paintings to sculptures and, of course, NFTs. While a nonprofit selling expensive art like this may be surprising to some, a report from Billboard suggested the move is necessary for the survival of the organization. Marian Goodell, CEO of the Burning Man Project, explained how the organization does not have enough money to survive past...
For their fifth album, Big Thief are going even bigger. In a new interview with Mojo, the indie rock quartet said that their upcoming studio set is 20 songs long and will be presented as a double-disc album. That’s a lot of music, especially since the band just released two interesting albums in 2019. The majority of the songwriting took place in July 2020, during a blistering two-week quarantine in the Vermont woods. “We accumulated so many songs that we loved, maybe about 50,” vocalist Adrianne Lenker said. “20 could be whittled down to 12, but not 50.” According to guitarist Buck Meek, they were guided by “focusing on different chunks of songs… that were stylistically, or thematically, connected. Like, we could just play country music for two weeks and not think abou...
John Cena’s Peacemaker may not care how many men, women, and children he needs to kill to get peace, but he won’t hurt a feather on an eagle. Certainly not his pet bird, Eagely, who’s introduced in the teaser clip from HBO Max’s The Suicide Squad spin-off series. In the first-look footage released today by WarnerMedia, Cena’s heroic supervillain meets up with his new team of handlers at an Italian restaurant. Steve Agee’s John Economos mocks him for showing up in full Peacemaker cosplay, noting that “a bright red shirt and white pants aren’t exactly conducive to lurking in the shadows.” When Peacemaker introduces his pet eagle as Eagely, Jennifer Holland’s Emilia Harcourt asks if his pet dog is named “Doggy.” Maybe instead of Peacemaker, this show should be called Sh*ttaker, as t...

It appears that David Lee Roth predicted his recent retirement announcement 30 years ago, almost to the exact day. In the music video for his 1991 solo single “A Lil Ain’t Enough,” the longtime Van Halen frontman looks into a crystal ball and gazes into his future. At first, he sees a billboard that reads: “Diamond Dave And THE ABSOLUTE FINAL TOUR.” Then, a Delorean-esque vehicle pulls up, and out from the suicide doors steps an overweight, aged Roth. The date “October 10th, 2021” flashes across the screen while spacesuit-wearing paparazzi bombard the singer. Last week, Diamond Dave announced that his upcoming five-date Las Vegas residency would be his final shows ever. He implied that h...

Netflix has unveiled the trailer for Dave Chappelle‘s upcoming comedy special, The Closer. The promotional visual sees the Mark Twain Prize winner driving his truck down a rural road as Morgan Freeman delivers an intuitive narration. “Five specials in this many years, how do you close a body of work that profound? I couldn’t imagine the enormity of the pressure. And then, he looks as if he’s about to say something… What could he possibly have left to say?” Freeman asks before Chappelle abruptly stops the car. Evidently annoyed, the comedian looks to the passenger seat where Freeman is and yells out, “Will you shut the f*ck up, Morgan Freeman?” The Closer rounds out Chappelle’s body of work on Netflix following The Age Of Spin, Deep In The Heart Of Texas, Equanimity, The Bird Revelation and...
Despite recently noting he has no immediate plans to develop a second season of Squid Game, writer/director Hwang Dong-hyuk appears to have changed his mind sharing a rough plan for a follow-up. Speaking with The Times, Hwang noted that if he were to develop Season 2 of the hit Netflix series, he would like to explore “the issue with police officers.” Adding, “While I was writing season one, I thought about the stories that could be in season two if I get to do one—one would be the story of the Frontman.” The potential season would presumably see a focus on the Frontman being a former police officer and how it lead to his role in Season 1. “I think the issue with police officers is not just an issue in Korea. I see it on the global news that the police force can be very late on acting on t...

The opening visual shows Comer’s character getting dressed during a rainy day ahead of the life-or-death duel, while Carrouges and Le Gris assemble their armor under tents in a Parisia...
