Listen to Rich DietZ and Poya’s Anthemic Trap Banger “Empire”

Rich DietZ are back—but this time with an exciting new look. Known for their unique twist on house music, the duo have eschewed their signature sound, teaming up with dubstep producer Poya for a brand new banger called “Empire.” “Empire” is a slight departure, but that doesn’t make it any less impressive. The thunderous single is as authoritative as its title suggests, a post-summer trap anthem that moonlights as a celebration of the long-awaited return of music festivals. The track’s mirthful lyrics invite listeners to simply let loose—and to break necks, of course. After a typically head-bopping hip-hop section, wherein Rich DietZ spit hedonistic verses over a smooth beat, “Empire” builds into something more menacing. Ev...

Extra Terra Unveils Blistering Third Album, “ZION”

Third time’s the charm for rising bass producer Extra Terra, who has unveiled a brand new, blistering album called ZION. ZION kicks off with “Inside The Simulation,” ensnaring fans into Extra Terra’s sonic web with an instrumental siren song that could soundtrack the intro to a Matrix movie. Its cinematic sound design and eerie bass serve to transport listeners into a science fiction-themed latticework. The fabled dystopian film series was clearly a motif that Extra Terra pulled inspiration from. The following two tracks, “Morpheus” and “Agent Smith,” are menacing midtempo bangers dedicated to Laurence Fishburne and Hugo Weaving’s iconic characters from the Matrixseries.  Artwork for Extra Terra’s “ZION&#...

LARS ULRICH Says METALLICA’s Return To Live Stage Has Been ‘Very Emotional On Every Level’

During an appearance earlier today (Friday, October 1) on SiriusXM‘s “Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk”, METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich was asked what it has been like for him and his bandmates to return to the road for their first live shows since late 2019. “Very emotional on every level,” he responded (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET). “Obviously, it’s invigorating and it’s inspiring and it’s just great to get back out there. “I think it was just about two years, maybe a little over two years, since we stepped off stage at ‘S&M[2]’ in San Francisco. And, obviously, we did the drive-in thing last summer, we did an All Within My Hands virtual event and a couple of TV appearances, but in terms of live shows with liv...

DAVID LEE ROTH Says He Is ‘Retiring’ After Las Vegas Residency: ‘These Are My Last Five Shows’

VAN HALEN singer David Lee Roth will retire after the last concert of his Las Vegas residency in January. “I’m throwing in the shoes,” Roth told the Las Vegas Review-Journal on Friday (August 1). “I’m retiring. This is the first, and only, official announcement. … You’ve got the news. Share it with the world.” He added: “I’m not going to explain the statement. The explanation is in a safe. These are my last five shows.” Roth also reflected on the passing of his longtime bandmate, legendary VAN HALEN guitarist Eddie Van Halen, who died of cancer a year ago. “I thought I might have been the first, frankly,” Roth said. “I might have thought the Marlboro Man would’ve got me. Hey, Ed, objects in the rear-view mi...

Barrett explained his decision to honor Cooper, writing in a tweet: “If you are a Milwaukeean, you cannot forget @alicecooper’s Milwaukee history lesson to characters Wayne and Garth in the 1992 movie ‘Wayne’s World’, where he coined the phrase ‘Mil-ee-wau-kay.’ “The Godfather of shock rock and stage theatrics, @alicecooper has entertained countless Milwaukee fans since his first Wisconsin show in 1973. I welcome him back to the ‘good land’ today by proclaiming October 1 as ‘Alice Cooper Day&#...

Brandi Carlile Offers to Front Soundgarden on Tour

Brandi Carlile has made it known she would love to tour as the singer of Soundgarden should the opportunity arise. During an appearance on the Rolling Stone Music Now podcast to promote her new album In These Silent Days, Carlile said she “would make the time” to serve as the grunge band’s singer. “I am such a Chris Cornell fan,” the singer-songwriter said about Soundgarden’s late frontman. “I loved him so much. I was so devastated when he left us.” Carlile has collaborated with the remaining members of Soundgarden on several occasions. In January 2019, she joined Kim Thayil, Ben Shepherd, and Matt Cameron on stage for “Black Hole Sun” during a massive tribute to Cornell. A24’s Lamb is Slow-Burn Folk Horror Like Ewe Have Never Seen: Review

The Pitch: Out in the foggy hills of Iceland, Maria (Noomi Rapace) and Ingvar (Hilmir Snær Gudnason), a couple spending a dignified, quiet existence on their sheep farm, reside far from the rest of civilization. It’s relatively unspoken, but one intuits early that they’re reeling from the recent loss of a child. It still stings, but the two press on in their virtually silent existence, going about their chores and assisting their ewes’ new births. One day, a member of the flock gives birth to a curious creature — an uncanny hybrid of man and lamb — that the pair immediately adopt as their own child. Her name? Ada. But as the three of them build a strangely comforting existence together, their fog-shrouded idyll is disrupted by forces outside their control. The arrival of Ingvar’s dead...

Testament, Exodus, and Death Angel Postpone “Bay Strikes Back Tour” until 2022

Less than one week before it was set to kick off, the “Bay Strikes Back Tour” featuring Testament, Exodus, and Death Angel has been pushed to 2022. All three legendary thrash bands cited COVID-19 safety concerns as the reason for the postponement. The three veteran metal acts know firsthand about the dangers of COVID-19, as they were among the first bands to be affected by the virus as they wrapped up the European leg of the trek in March 2020.  Multiple members of touring package were infected, including Testament singer Chuck Billy, Exodus guitarist Gary Holt, and Death Angel drummer Will Carroll, who recovered from a serious battle against COVID after being put in a coma and on a respirator. The new dates will kick off April 9th in San Luis Obispo, California, and run through ...

David Lee Roth Is Retiring After New Year’s Las Vegas Residency: “These Are My Last Five Shows”

David Lee Roth has revealed that his recently announced Las Vegas residency will be his “last five shows” ever. In a new interview, the Van Halen singer says is retiring from performing, implying that health issues are forcing him to hang up his microphone. While speaking with the Las Vegas Review-Journal, DLR stated, “I am throwing in the shoes. I’m retiring. This is the first, and only, official announcement. … You’ve got the news. Share it with the world.” As opposed to a standard interview, DLR spoke for several minutes straight, telling a story about Van Halen’s origins, and letting the reporter know that he has been speaking with Alex Van Halen several times day. “Al and I have been talking, and I can’t speak for him just yet, but he knows what I am about to say … We speak to each ot...
