Sitting inside a hotel room with an unmade bed the morning after a show in North Carolina, Marc LaBelle is wearing a Led Zeppelin T-shirt. His well-worn Aerosmith shirt lies nearby. Talking about his preference for bands over solo acts, LaBelle says via Zoom, “I don’t have a Bob Dylan tee. I don’t have a Bruce Springsteen shirt. I like bands, and I like that energy.” The long-haired, behatted LaBelle is the frontman for one of hard rock’s best new bands, Los Angeles quartet Dirty Honey. Alongside guitarist John Notto, drummer Corey Coverstone and bassist Justin Smolian, the group struck thunder right from the start. Their 2019 debut single, the rooster-strutting “When I’m Gone,” became the first song by an unsigned band to top Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart. The follow-up, casino boogie...
After unveiling the classic N64 and SEGA Genesis three-button controllers for the Switch during its recent Direct stream, Nintendo has now also announced the release of the latter console’s six-button controller. The drops will come sometime next month for Switch Online subscribers alongside a massive DLC pack that’ll make available a whole roster of games from both the N64 as well as the SEGA Genesis. Despite the excitement for the releases, however, Nintendo will only be releasing the six-button version domestically in Japan. Polygon has confirmed with Nintendo America that only the three-button option previously unveiled will be making its way stateside. “Different regions make different decisions based on a variety of factors,” said a representative from the company. “For the U.S. and ...
HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Johnny Nunez / Getty A few months ago Netflix revealed that a Kanye West documentary was on the way and now we’re finally getting our first look at the project and have gotten the title for the doc. Officially dubbed Jeen-Yuhs (“Genius” in case y’all were wondering), the trailer to the Yeezy documentary takes us back to 2004 before Kanye West became a household name and was simply known for his soulful beats and production. Sitting alongside the artist formerly known as Mos Def (Yasiin Bey these days), the two men each spit their now familiar verses to the College Dropout cut “Two Words.” While Mos looked like his charismatic self as he rapped his bars, a young Kanye grew visibly animated with every passing line much to the astonishment of Avon Barksdale ...

Coldplay and BTS most recently performed “My Universe” at the 2021 Global Citizen Festival in New York City’s Central Park on Sunday, though the K-pop group joined the band onstage virtually as they appeared at the event from South Korea. “We collaborated with a band and we took their average age up about 15 years, but it’s been one of the most fun things we’ve ever done,” Coldplay frontman Chris Martin told the crowd during the performance. “This is a song we did with BTS. This is a song about love who you love, and only that.” “My Universe,” which arrived on Friday, is the second single from Coldplay’s upcoming studio album, Music of Spheres, due out Oct. 15. Listen to the acoustic and remixed versions of “My U...
Warner Music Group (WMG) is the first major recording company to partner with Twitch in a deal that will bring WMG artist channels, original music programming and more to the livestreaming platform. A visual tribute to Watts on the stage’s four massive video walls kicked off the night before the band ripped right into on-point versions of “Street Fighting Man” and “It’s Only Rock ‘N’ Roll (But I Like It),” followed by what could be described as a heart-to-heart between the group’s longest-serving members and the audience, some of whom may have been caught unawares. “It’s great to be back playin’ a big stage, I tell ya,” said Mick Jagger, flanked by co-founder Keith Richards and longtime member Ronnie Wood. “This is the first show of our tour. It was really quite emotional seeing those pictures of Charlie up on the screen. This is the first tour that we’ve ever done without him so I think all the reacti...

Coldplay could’ve died as villains, but after 25 years in the game they’ve lived long enough to see themselves become the heroes. The onetime least-cool act in rock and roll are flourishing in an increasingly poptimistic world, and for the climate crisis fundraiser Global Citizen Live, they teamed up with Billie Eilish and FINNEAS, BTS, Camila Cabello, and Shawn Mendes. Coldplay enlisted Eilish and FINNEAS for the X&Y cut “Fix You.” Performing in front of a golden backdrop that set off her new ‘do, Eilish’s breathy vocals were a perfect complement to this softer song, while FINNEAS’ mic was turned so far down that it’s unclear whether he was singing backup or lip synching. As for the Bangtan Boys, they didn’t make it to New York in person, but they did film a cosmic vide...
Guns N’ Roses have announced the new Hard Skool EP, arriving February 25th. The band also played the new song “Hard School” live for the first time on Sunday (September 26th) at a concert in Baltimore. The four-song EP includes “Hard Skool,” previous studio single “ABSUЯD,” and live versions of “Don’t Cry” and “You’re Crazy.” It will be available on cassette, CD, and digitally. A 7″ vinyl version will be available on June 24th, featuring just “Hard Skool” and a live version of “ABSUЯD.” “Hard Skool” is the second previously unreleased Chinese Democracy-era track to be officially released as a single in 2021. Unlike the more industrial sound of “ABSUЯD,” Guns N’ Roses go old-school on “Hard Skool.” Advertisement Related Video As the footage from the Baltimore show attests, the track is an u...
