Michael K. Williams died of an accidental overdose after ingesting a mix of fentanyl, p-fluorofentanyl, heroin, and cocaine, a coroner has determined. The Wire actor’s official cause of death was determined by the New York City Chief Medical Examiner on Friday and first reported by TMZ. Williams was found dead in his Brooklyn apartment on September 6th. Police had said drug paraphernalia was found at the scene and launched an investigation into the cause of his death. Just 54 at the time of his passing, the Emmy Award-nominated actor tragically developed an addiction to drugs while immersing himself into the role of stickup man Omar Little in HBO’s The Wire. Earlier this year, Williams spoke about starting therapy for the first time to unpack the issues behind his addictions...
Following the premiere of Andre Gaines’ The One And Only Dick Gregory this past summer, Lupe Fiasco has shared a musical tribute to the comedian and civil rights activist. On “Big Energy,” Fiasco describes the lifelong work of Gregory, who notably used his comedy sets as a platform for addressing bigotry and racial injustice in the U.S. The documentary, which was released by Showtime in July, takes a closer look at the life and career of Gregory. Alongside Gaines as its director, Kevin Hart and Lena Waithe worked on the project as executive producers. The film featured footage of Gregory, who passed away in 2017, and interviews with prominent Black comedians today, including Hart and Waithe, as well as Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, Wanda Sykes and more. “Bout to get heavy, hope you’re ready,...
Before the action kicks off two weeks from now, Sony Pictures reveals four new character posters giving fans a little extra to think about ahead of Marvel‘s Venom 2 premiere. While the blood-red Carnage/Kasady played by Woody Harrelson, Venom/Eddie Brock starring Tom Hardy, and Shriek played by Naomie Harris were revealed in the official trailer. The new character posters offer a new development. Michelle Williams‘ poster hints at a She-Venom silhouette, further validated by an Instagram caption that reads “She’s back in black” as seen below. The comic book adaptation has seen six release date changes due to uncertain circumstances, so the posters also serve as reassurance for the expecting fans. Earlier this month, the movie’s test screening yielded a strongly positive response with an em...
“There’s the thing with the Chili Peppers: We put socks on our dicks, and we’re never going to outrun it,” Flea told GQ in 2019. “People are always going to think of that. I feel that ultimately the measure of art that we or I created, as good as it is, over time will stand for what it is. The core essence of it, the cerebral part of it — the emotional, spiritual, and physical — are things that will always survive.” With the Red Hot Chili Peppers, there’s always been that delicate balance of junk-swinging funk-rock jock and peace-promoting psychedelic muso. And no album better represents that symbiosis than the group’s 1991 blockbuster, Blood Sugar Sex Magik. While it may be forever remembered for a handful of massive singles (the pulverizing “Give It Away,” the pensive “Under the Bridge”)...
The Red Hot Chili Peppers will be embarking on a worldwide tour next summer, the band’s first since its original guitarist, John Frusciante, made his return to the group. The global tour was announced via a satirical breaking news announcement for a faux station called KHOT. In the teaser, lead vocalist Anthony Kiedis and bassist Flea serve as co-anchors named Johnson Hammerswaddle and Todd the Squirrel, respectively. Drummer Chad Smith gives a report as weatherman Randy Raindrops before Frusciante, as himself, sits down with the anchor duo. “John, might we expect you and the fellas to play live anytime soon?” Flea’s character asks. “We’re going to do a tour starting in June 2022,” Frusciante cooly responds, setting the anchors into hysterics. Frusciante goes on to share that the U.S. leg ...
Before we could get anywhere near talking about his new album, Bill, on our scheduled Zoom call, William Shatner was already marveling at my beard. Now, it’s not the first interview to be disrupted by my ample facial hair, but it’s not exactly how I was planning to start my chat with the man behind Captain James T. Kirk, dozens of other characters from my childhood, and some of the most memorable cover songs in history. Always the storyteller, Shatner gleefully launched into a memory of when he was once performing live and there was a man with a large beard in the audience. “He was standing up, and I turned to his wife sitting next to him, and I said, ‘Do you like that beard?’” Shatner recalls in his now-legendary almost-hushed voice. “She looked at her husband and said ‘No!’ Obviously, in...
