The Red Hot Chili Peppers will embark on a stadium tour starting June 2022, back again with guitarist John Frusciante. The U.S. leg begins in July 2022. The band announced the huge tour in a hilarious, Saturday Night Live-style video. Check it out below: [embedded content] Frusciante plays himself and visits the local news station KHOT to talk to newscasters John Hammerswaddle (Anthony Kiedis), Todd the Squirrel (Flea), and Randy Raindrops (Chad Smith) about the upcoming tour. The band is celebrating the 25th anniversary of their widely acclaimed Blood Sugar Sex Magik. The Rick Rubin produced, 1991 record was a huge stepping stone in the sound of funk-rock, and also featured Frusciante. The Chilis performed tracks off the record at Woodstock 1994. This marks the first time Frusciante ...

Excited about This hip-hop musical I’m writing and my next album with Marco Polo! My current music collection has a lot of ‘70s and ‘80s disco and soul. And a little bit of Hip hop. Don’t judge me for “Barbie Girl” by Aqua. Preferred format Streaming the last few years, because it’s convenient. The beat just got sicker. A new mathematical study has found a close resemblance between the spreads of epidemic disease and popular music, suggesting they gain traction through similar methods. Electronic music, researchers concluded, proved to be the most infectious of all. The Guardian reported that the study used a standard numerical model of epidemic disease, the SIR model, as their starting point, testing it against song download trends from 2007 to 2014 in the UK. The formula passed with flying colors. It described these music trends just as well as it did the spread of disease. “It supports the idea that both music and infectious diseases depend on social connections to spread through populations,” said Dora Rosati, the study’s lead author. “...
Labor Day 2021 in Arizona was dominated by a multi-genre romp called the Endgame Labor Day Expansion Bash, a triumphant celebration that went down in Mesa with over 80 artists. The event boasted four intricate stages, cosplay communities, and small businesses throughout Arizona, making for a diverse and vibrant club night in the Grand Canyon State. Powered by Nexstar Entertainment and coordinated by MarcTheSharkPresents (MTSP, formerly AE and DAE&NYT), the Bash coalesced the local EDM and hip-hop communities in ecstatic fashion, offering an eclectic night of music as over 1,000 attendees let loose over the course of three days. What made the event so special, however, was its cross pollination with gaming culture. The Endgame Labor Day Expansion Bash paid homage to ...
3LAU is dropping the world’s first fan-owned song through the power of blockchain and NFT technology. The dance music producer and member of Cointelegraph’s Top 100 Notable People In Blockchain, raised $16 million earlier this summer in order to bring his new entrepreneurial endeavor, Royal, to fruition. The new platform tokenizes royalty-generating musical assets, enabling the public to purchase tokens which effectively guarantee them a share of the income generated from every stream. It’s a logical thought progression for 3LAU given his success in tokenizing the first-ever NFT album earlier this year. In January, he sold 33 NFTs tied to the long-form project, generating an astronomical $11.6M in proceeds. The idea for Royal came from a relatively straightforw...
It’s rare for a festival to call a venue home for over 12 years. But barring the blow of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Electric Zoo has returned to Randall’s Island Park in New York every year since its first edition in 2009. It’s grown from a modest 66-person event to a sprawling, 100,000-person festival, earning the title of New York’s premier electronic music festival. As always, taking place on Labor Day Weekend, the festival underscores a transition from summer to fall. One last hurrah before the autumn leaves blossom and the summer sun makes way for cool winds and overcast skies. “This may be the end of summer but it is the beginning of our comeback to the greatest city in the world,” said Michael Julian, Chief of Marketing for Electric Zoo. Electric Zoo’s hurdles to the...
Gunna has dropped another track in the rollout of his forthcoming album Drip Season 4. Last month, the rapper boasted his successes in “9 Times Outta 10” and its accompanying music video, the first song fans heard off of the new album. Now, the rapper has returned with “Too Easy,” announcing the release on Instagram with a clip of an eighties-style racing game. Tapping fellow Atlanta native Future, the single sees Gunna return to his instinctual mode of flexing, reminding listeners that for him, it’s simply “too easy.” Future joins in to drop references to wearing Marni and driving a Lamborghini. “This jewelry cold on me,” Gunna raps. “I’m freezin’, no way I’m anemic” This song marks the third time the two rappers have teamed up. Last year, they dropped “Street Sweeper,” which was included...
I walked into Rhino Records in New Paltz, New York on September 24, 1991, with one mission in mind: copping the new cassette by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. After months of reading about the band working on the follow-up to their 1989 breakthrough LP Mother’s Milk with Rick Rubin, the time was finally nigh. Heading into the store after school, the metallic gray Rock and Roll Over-evoking cover art for Blood Sugar Sex Magick was staring right at me from the new releases shelf. I snatched up the cassette, along with Ceremony, the new Cult album, which had come out that day as well. I lumbered over to the counter and was greeted with a side-eye from the store manager as he surveyed my purchase choices. “So you’re not getting Nevermind?” he asked. “Huh?” “The new Nirvana album,” he s...
This article originally appeared in the December 1991 issue of SPIN. In honor of Nevermind’s 30th anniversary, we’re republishing our original review here. After a most fine lunch on a bright, sunny New York day, Nevermind is blasting through the little box on my desk and the finance department here at the lovely SPIN offices are probably going ballistic. … But so what. Forget the new Guns N’ Roses double overkill. Forget Rush’s Roll the Bones. Nirvana has built this one for speed—that would be speed with a capital S—and it sure is fun to drive. A little bit punk, a little bit metal, a little bit country, a little bit rock ‘n’ roll. What the hell more do you want? Nevermind’s got a full-out rock assault on “Territorial Pissings,” and a beautifully harmonic “On a Plain,” and a really ...
Today, Young Nudy and 21 Savage released the music video for “Child’s Play,” which appears on Young Nudy’s DR. EV4L album released back in May. The horror-themed music video takes place in a fog-filled junkyard and was directed by JMP. In the video, the two rappers slide throughout their verses in an old-school car with brooding red lights next to them. The East Atlanta rapper also released another album in August titled, Rich Shooter. Recently, 21 Savage shared that he has complete ownership of his masters, which yields the artists more money from album sales than touring. “I had a platinum album before I signed my deal, you see what I’m saying. I own my masters right now,” said 21 Savage during an interview with Million Dollaz Worth of Game. “A deal ain’t no deal where it’s like, ‘Damn, ...
