Drake appears to have quietly updated songs on his recently released Certified Lover Boy, though it seems that only Apple Music’s version of the album has been changed. A fan was the first to spot the subtle changes and shared their findings to the hip-hop content forum KTT2 on Wednesday, September 22. On “Knife Talk” featuring 21 Savage and Project Pat, the fan wrote that there were “various mix changes” on bass and vocals, as well a difference in the transition of the song’s outro. Fans also said that mix changes were applied to the vocals of “IMY2.” Kid Cudi, who has a guest appearance on the track, has an entirely new line, plus additional ad-libs. Meanwhile, the beat on “You Only Live Twice” now fades out instead of bluntly cutting off. It’s unclear if these changes apply across strea...

Aaliyah’s Self-Titled Album Returns to Top 10 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart

Streaming makes up the second-largest category, with 9,000 units from that sector, equal to 11.5 million on-demand plays of the album’s songs. The remaining 2,000 units derive from individual track downloads of the album’s songs. (One unit equals the following levels of consumption: one album sale, 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams for a song on the album.) The album rejoins the top 10 for the first time since the chart dated Nov. 10, 2001, when it ranked at No. 9. Aaliyah peaked at No. 2 for four nonconsecutive weeks that year – its first and second weeks on the chart (Aug. 4 and 11) and again on Sept. 15 and 22, with the latter pair owed to reaction after the singer’s death on Aug. 25 that ...

30 Overlooked 1991 Albums Turning 30 This Year

1991 was a transformative year for rock music, a time when alternative rock and heavy metal entered a new era of commercial dominance. Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden ushered in the explosion of Seattle grunge alongside blockbuster albums by Metallica, R.E.M. and Red Hot Chili Peppers, to say nothing of influential indie classics by My Bloody Valentine, Primal Scream and Slint, or SPIN’s album of the year, Teenage Fanclub’s Bandwagonesque. But while 1991’s hits set the agenda for alternative rock for the rest of the decade, the year was brimming over with fascinating career footnotes and debuts from other promising new bands. In England, the music press was excitedly hyping up genres like shoegaze, baggy, and whatever “grebo” was, while American indie bands like fIREHOSE, the Meat Puppe...
