Elvis Costello & The Attractions Score First Entry on a Billboard Latin Albums Chart With ‘Spanish Model’

“We remixed ‘This Year’s Girl’ for David Simon’s HBO series, The Deuce and I heard all sorts of untapped power and possibilities in the Attractions original playing,” Costello adds. “I went into a kind of reverie and imagined replacing my voice with people singing in Spanish. I asked Sebastian if he thought that was a crazy idea. He thought for a moment and said, ‘Yes, it is crazy, let’s do it’.’ I know he knew the singers with the spirit, the spit, the wit and integrity to do right and it has been a great pleasure to get to know those artists with whom I was not already familiar or regarded as friends.” Spanish Model launches with 2,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending Sept. 16, according to MRC Data. Album sales makes up nearly all of t...

Teyana Taylor Confirms Retirement With ‘The Last Rose Petal’ Farewell Tour

Yesterday via Instagram, Teyana Taylor announced her farewell tour titled “The Last Rose Petal,” confirming previous hints that she would retire from music. The artist previously floated the idea of retirement on several occasions over the past year. In December, Taylor cited feeling underappreciated and overwhelmed by the music industry, writing in an Instagram post: “I ain’t gone front, in times of feeling super under-appreciated as an artist, receiving little to no real push from the ‘machine,’ constantly getting the shorter end of the stick, being overlooked….” “I’m retiring this chapter of my story with the comfort that I can depart with peace of mind seeing that all the hard work & passion put in was indeed loved & supported somewhere in the world!” she added. Taylor specifie...

The Fugees Shine at NYC Reunion Show, Despite Ms. Lauryn Hill’s Chronic Lateness

There was obvious excitement when The Fugees announced their long-awaited reunion earlier this week, along with understandable doubt that we would finally see it happen with our own eyes. Yet we did, at a secret pop-up show on Wednesday night (September 22nd) atop New York City’s Pier 17, as the three members of the Fugees (Yes, Lauryn Hill included) put aside their differences to celebrate one of the greatest albums of all time, The Score. It was a 25-year reunion, and with the time it took for them to arrive on stage, it was truly as if Ms. Lauryn Hill was time-traveling from the year 1997. Never one to be fashionably early, Hill, along with bandmates Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel, sauntered on stage almost four hours past the scheduled start time. Madonna Defends Billie Eilish Changing Her Image: “We Still Live in a Very Sexist World”

Billie Eilish is on the cover of Elle this month discussing her evolving style, and she’s got a major pop predecessor in her corner when it comes to changing up her look: Madonna. For the cover story, Her Madgesty ardently defended the younger pop star, who’s faced significant backlash for the more body-conscious styles she’s been wearing in the era for her sophomore album Happier Than Ever. “The problem is, we still live in a very sexist world where women are put into categories,” the “Bitch, I’m Madonna” singer told the magazine. “You’re either in the virgin category or the whore category. Billie started off in a non-sexualized category, not pandering to the masses and not using her sexuality in any way, which is her choice and God bless her for that — after all, she’s been a teenager al...

The Fugees Return to the Stage in Epic Fashion

On a windy rooftop above Pier 17 of New York’s South Street Seaport—and approximately three and a half hours after the show’s advertised start time—the Fugees performed together for the first time in 15 years, presenting a colossal show taped to be aired as part of this weekend’s Global Citizen Festival. Billed as a pop-up show, it was far from that. With a pageantry rarely seen at a rap show, the set opened with the one-by-one emergence of a 20-piece mixed-style orchestra (14 horn players in formal attire, multiple guitarists, keyboardists, and bass players, backup singers, and a DJ), followed by Wyclef Jean, Pras Michel, and finally, Ms. Lauryn Hill, wearing a red-ruffled couture gown (which word is she designed). As an instrumental horn and key version of “The Score” led into “How Many ...
