Ever see that clickbait ad that says, “Hot Singles in Your Area Want to Talk to You?” Imagine that ad coming to life. Oh, you didn’t ask for that? Well, that’s because you didn’t know it could be so entertaining. Luckily, multi-hyphenate and expert Tinder swiper Lane Moore knew. And boy, are we glad. As a child, the lifelong entertainer amused family and friends with impressions, short films, plays, and singing. As an adult, these skills and ideas parlayed her into someone who was destined to bring originality to a stage. Her fun-loving “cool chick from next door” vibe and monster motivation also made her perfect for sharing her findings, albeit compassionate or hilarious, to the masses in a relatable way. From her band, It Was Romance, being named one of the year’s best by Bust Magaz...

Original ‘Star Wars’ Editor Marcia Lucas Slashes Disney Sequel Trilogy: ‘The Storylines Are Terrible’

Marcia Lucas, the Oscar-winning editor of the original Star Wars franchise, slammed Disney‘s sequel trilogy, stating that producer Kathleen Kennedy and director J.J. Abrams “don’t have a clue.” Lucas made the claims in an interview for J.W. Rinzler’s new book Howard Kazanjian: A Producer’s Life, which delves into the producer’s life and examines his work on the Star Wars franchise. “I like Kathleen,” Lucas says in the book. “I always liked her. She was full of beans. She was really smart and really bright. Really wonderful woman. And I liked her husband, Frank. I liked them a lot. Now that she’s running Lucasfilm and making movies, it seems to me that Kathy Kennedy and J.J. Abrams don’t have a clue about Star Wars. They don’t get it.” “And J.J. Abrams is writing these stories — w...

Whatever Happened To: The Polyphonic Spree

We’re reviving our Whatever Happened To series after a decade-long break. To kick things off, we’re going on a search to find The Polyphonic Spree, a choral rock band from Dallas formed by Tim DeLaughter in 2000. Nirvana changed music in the early ’90s with “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and their landmark 1991 album Nevermind. Dozens of unlikely underground bands (Butthole Surfers, anyone?) leapt into the mainstream as grunge and punk became the dominant rock ‘n’ roll trends. After the death of frontman Kurt Cobain, Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl hunkered down and formed a solo project he dubbed Foo Fighters. A quarter-century or so later, the Foos are now the biggest (and most consistently awesome) rock band in the world, thanks to a catalog overflowing with radio hits. However, Nirvana wasn’t th...

Daniel Craig: “There Should Simply Be Better Parts for Women” Than James Bond

As the release of Daniel Craig’s final turn as James Bond nears, talk has renewed over the future of the character. In a new interview with Radio Times, Craig was asked whether a woman should get a chance to star in the titular role. “The answer to that is very simple,” Craig responded. “There should simply be better parts for women and actors of colour. Why should a woman play James Bond when there should be a part just as good as James Bond, but for a woman?” Craig’s comments are in line with what James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli said when asked a similar question in an interview last year. “He can be of any color, but he is male,” Broccoli asserted. “I believe we should be creating new characters for women — strong female characters. ‘’m not particularly interested in taking a male ...

Vended (Sons of Slipknot’s Corey Taylor and Clown) Unleash Debut Single “Asylum”: Stream

Vended, the band that features the sons of Slipknot members Corey Taylor and Shawn “Clown” Crahan, have unleashed their debut single “Asylum.” With such an impressive metal pedigree, it’s no surprise that “Asylum” is a brutal track, featuring scalding vocals from 19-year-old singer Griffin Taylor (a dead ringer for his dad) and hard-hitting rhythmic patterns from drummer Simon Crahan. There’s a definite groove-metal and nu-metal influence, along with a streak of hardcore punk that should get the pits circling. While they’re not clad in masks, the band’s press photo does feature some theatrical makeup, giving the group a sinister appearance as Griffin appears obscured by blue paint. Vended’s lineup is rounded out by Cole Espeland (lead guitar), Connor Grodzicki (rhythm guitar), and Jer...

Lil Nas X Returns to His Country Roots With Cover of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene”

Hot on the heels of MONTERO‘s release, Lil Nas X dropped by BBC Rado 1’s Live Lounge on Tuesday to perform a cover of Dolly Parton‘s 1973 classic “Jolene.” Singing into an iced-out microphone on a flower-wrapped stand, the “Old Town Road” vocalist proved his country prowess while appealing to the camera, “I’m begging of you please don’t take my man.” Speaking on his decision to cover the track during the show, Lil Nas X explained, “I chose this because I feel like this song is kind of like beautifully sad, you know? I like the little twang, like the country twang in it. So I was like, ‘let me try this out.’” The 22-year-old chart-topper then performed “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” along with “Dead Right Now” and “That’s What I Want” off of MONTERO. According to HITS Daily Doub...

Five Burning Questions: Walker Hayes’ ‘Fancy Like’ Hits Top 5 on Hot 100

1. Completing a climb to the Hot 100’s top 5 is rare for any new single these days, let alone a country one. What’s been the key to Walker Hayes being able to grow this song into one of the year’s biggest crossover hits?  Katie Atkinson: Any time you can get someone to accidentally listen to your song, you’ve won. Between the song’s TikTok omnipresence and its too-good-to-be-true (for Walker and the restaurant chain) placement in Applebee’s commercials, this song is basically inescapable. And with pop culture as splintered as it is these days, there aren’t a whole lot of ways to get this many people to listen to your song without specifically seeking it out. So… Applebee’s ads are the new radio, basically. Jason Lipshutz: He stumble...
