How to Buy Dave Grohl’s ‘The Storyteller’ Memoir Online

“There is a common thread that runs throughout everything that I do: storytelling. Whether in song, documentary film or on the page, I have always felt compelled to share moments from my life,” Grohl previously said of the forthcoming memoir in a statement. “This inclination is a huge part of what excites me creatively but also as a human being.” The beloved rocker will share everything from “hilarious childhood mishaps, touching family moments, leaving home to see the world at eighteen, to spectacular stories about Nirvana, Foo Fighters, David Bowie, Joan Jett, Iggy Pop, Paul McCartney, playing drums for Tom Petty on Saturday Night Live, performing at the White House, and even swing dancing with AC/DC, with all love, laughs, loss, and embarrassments ...

Tomorrowland Looks to Expand to Three Weekends to Recover Pandemic Losses

Wilmsen notes that it’s currently unclear how long it might take for the municipalities to evaluate this request. “We hope soon,” she says. The pandemic has dealt a series of blows to Tomorrowland, which typically hosts roughly 400,000 attendees over two weekends each summer. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Tomorrowland has been forced to cancel six festivals — four total weekends in Belgium (in 2019 and 2020) and a pair of Tomorrowland’s winter events in France. Wilmsen says that organizers never intended to expand to three weekends, but are doing so in an attempt to recoup 5 million euros ($5.8 million) in lost revenue the company experienced in 2021 and an additional 20 million euros ($23 million) in anticipated losses. Expanding to three weekends woul...

Kevin Whelan’s Aeon Station Announces Debut Album Observatory, Shares ‘Queens’

Kevin Whelan of The Wrens has formed a new band called Aeon Station. The group will release their debut album Observatory on December 10. Observatory is a 10-track record, consisting of over 14 years worth of demos and sketches from Whelan. The album is now available for preorder on CD/LP/DSPs from Sub Pop. Though this isn’t a Wrens album, which is what many of their extremely patient fans had hoped for, it’s certainly a great consolation prize. Largely assembled and recorded by Whelan himself, Aeon Station is composed of Wren bandmates Jerry MacDonald and Greg Whelan, and musicians Tom Beaujour and his wife Mary Ann. Aeon Station released their debut single “Queens,” filled with bashing drums and monster guitars. “This song was inspired by one of my all-time favorite songs, ‘The Winner Ta...

Meek Mill stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday evening to perform his new single “Blue Notes 2” alongside his collaborator, Lil Uzi Vert. The duo dropped bars atop a fog-drenched stage, while snippets from their accompanying music video played in the backdrop. “Blue Notes 2” — the follow-up to Meek’s “Blue Notes” from his DC4 mixtape — will land on the rapper’s upcoming fifth record, Expensive Pain, slated for release on October 1. Meek officially announced the album last week, while also unveiling its corresponding cover art, which was created from an original painting done by renowned artist Nina Chanel Abney. Expensive Pain will also include Meek’s recent collaboration with Lil Baby and Lil Durk, “Sharing Locations.” The album marks the chart-topper...

Blast Rites: Unto Others’ Enormous Goth-Metal Gives Them Strength to Carry On

September saw two high-profile metal releases from Iron Maiden and Carcass, plus a reissue of Metallica’s “Black Album,” one of the best-selling metal records in history, complete with a tribute so ill-conceived it’ll make you want to invest in oil companies to hasten our demise. But Blast Rites is more about legends in the making, the groups should have their own dubious tribute albums in about 30 years’ time. (That is, if metal still exists 30 years from now.)  Portland’s Unto Others already had a sound poised to elevate them from the underground, a melodic machine driven by both NWOBHM’s raw-hewn leads and Sisters of Mercy’s more rocking edges. Vocalist Gabriel Franco practically slips into Andrew Eldritch’s slithering charisma when he dons shades, and guitarist Sebastian Silva wou...

DORO PESCH Looks Back On Rise Of Grunge In Early 1990s: ‘The Normal Heavy Metal Wasn’t Supported So Much Anymore’

In a new interview with Anne Erickson of Audio Ink Radio, German metal queen Doro Pesch was asked for her opinion of the state of metal music today. She responded: “I think it’s great. When I started out in the ’80s, really, sometimes people looked down at metalheads. I remember a couple of times, we went to some restaurants and wanted to get some food, and they didn’t serve us because they were probably scared. [Laughs] And now, I feel metal is so accepted. Everybody knows all these bands. Everybody loves Lemmy and [Ronnie James] Dio, and it’s cool. But in the beginning, it was sometimes hard. But then I thought, that’s cool to be an outlaw. I don’t mind. I think it’s really cool. But I think now it’s in a great place, with all these g...

RUSH’s GEDDY LEE Prepping Memoir For Fall 2022 Release

RUSH bassist/vocalist Geddy Lee will release a memoir in the fall of 2022. The book will be edited Noah Eaker and made available via HarperCollins. Lee shared the news of his memoir in an Instagram post earlier today (Tuesday, September 21). He wrote: “So, how did I kill time during the pandemic? Little did I know that as of March 2020 I’d be locked down for over a year and a half—the longest time I’d spent in Toronto since I was nineteen and hit the Northern Ontario bar circuit with RUSH. “Although [my wife] Nancy and I had to cancel a bunch of adventures we’d been planning, there were some shiny silver linings to be found at home: teaching my grandson the finer points of baseball and birdwatching, tending to my pups (one of whom was quite ill) and spending t...
