Tom Hanks Builds a Self-Driving Robot in Trailer for Apple TV+’s Finch: Watch

While starring in yet another Hollywood post-apocalyptic film titled Finch, Tom Hanks takes on the role of an inventor who builds himself a robot best friend. Watch the newly released trailer below to see him in action. “It all happened so fast,” Hanks’ titular character somberly explains in the opening moments of the clip. “There was a solar flare. Goodbye crops and food, goodbye everything. So I hid, frightened and so alone.” Then, the camera pulls back and reveals Finch is talking to a canine companion in a manner not too dissimilar from Hanks’ conversations with Wilson, the volleyball in 2000’s Cast Away. The two survivors won’t be alone for too much longer, as the robotics engineer builds an android named Jeff (played by Caleb Landry Jones) to join them in fleeing an incoming storm. A...

Tori Amos Announces New Album Ocean to Ocean

Tori Amos had a difficult time during the pandemic. She entered a place of personal crisis that was exacerbated by the storming of the Capitol on Jan. 6. But instead of allowing it to bring her down further, the singer-songwriter channeled that energy into Ocean to Ocean — her 15th studio album and most personal work in years. “This is a record about your losses, and how you cope with them,” she said in a statement. “Thankfully when you’ve lived long enough, you can recognise you’re not feeling like the mom you want to be, the wife you want to be, the artist you want to be. I realised that to shift this, you have to write from the place where you are. I was in my own private hell, so I told myself, then that’s where you write from – you’ve done it before…” The result is an urgent, int...

China’s Version of TikTok Limits Kids’ Screen Time to 40 Minutes Per Day

TikTok owner Bytedance is set to bring in screen time caps for Douyin, the Chinese version of the phenomenally successful app, for users under 14 years old as Beijing continues to crack down on the influence of tech companies in the country. According to a report in Bloomberg, Douyin made significant changes to its ‘youth’ mode last week, limiting daily usage time to a maximum of 40 minutes for those aged under 14 and also banning them from accessing the app from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. The company has now also rolled out a new youth-orientated version on Douyin, dubbed Xiao Qu Xing or ‘Little Fun Star,’ that, via its algorithm, promotes and prioritizes more educational videos and allows users to like but not upload their own clips. You Deserve to Make...

In India’s Price-Sensitive Market, Will Customers Finally Pay For Streaming?

Only two countries — China (45% ad-supported), the seventh-biggest market, and Venezuela (58%), IFPI’s lowest-ranked sector — rely more on ad-supported audio streams than India (38%). And China, for the first time, generated more revenue last year from subscription-supported streams than ad-supported streams, IFPI figures show. Lodha, who previously was an executive at hospitality chain OYO Rooms, says it’s time to change India’s revenue paradigm. To help Gaana regain its edge in India’s crowded streaming market against its well-financed competitors, he’s focusing on boosting subscription income, which he says is more important than hitting Gaana’s target of 500 million MAUs — a figure at which he says the streaming platform would finally turn profitable. Subscription income fell from 33% ...

Nashville Labels Turn to Pop Partners as Streaming Changes the Game

This kind of arrangement is growing more common to the point that every big Nashville label now works with a pop counterpart. Sony Music Nashville has teamed with RCA Records to promote several acts including Tenille Townes and Kane Brown, who has released songs with several acts on RCA’s pop roster, including Khalid and H.E.R. At first, Brown’s deals were renegotiated per song, but as it became clearer that the country star would continue to delve into pop, SMN and RCA now have a “broader partnership” for the “Be Like That” singer, says SMN executive vp/COO Ken Robold. “Basically it was [RCA Records COO John] Fleckenstein and I coming up with what we thought was a fair deal.” While he wouldn’t give specific percentages, Robold says RCA is “incenti...

DAVE EVANS Says BON SCOTT Was ‘Washed Up’ When He Joined AC/DC But ‘Did A Great Job’ Fronting Band

Original AC/DC singer Dave Evans says that Bon Scott “did a great job” fronting the band after he was fired from the group. Dave recorded AC/DC‘s first two singles, “Can I Sit Next To You Girl” and “Baby, Please Don’t Go”. But in October 1974, less than a year after AC/DC‘s first gig, Evans was out of the band. He was replaced by Scott, who sang on AC/DC‘s first six studio albums and became a legend himself after his death in 1980. In a recent interview with DJ Grant from New Zealand’s Galaxy 107 FM, Evans said about being replaced by Scott (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “You’ve gotta remember that Bon Scott did a lot of the songs that I already did, like ‘Baby, Please Don’t Go’, we alrea...

Watch Ex-JUDAS PRIEST Singer TIM ‘RIPPER’ OWENS Perform In Haltom City, Texas

Video footage of former JUDAS PRIEST singer Tim “Ripper” Owens‘s August 21 performance at the Haltom Theater in Haltom City, Texas can be viewed below. Owens joined PRIEST in 1996 after being discovered when the band’s drummer, Scott Travis, was given a videotape of him performing with the PRIEST cover act BRITISH STEEL. JUDAS PRIEST at the time was seeking a replacement for Rob Halford. He recorded two studio albums with the band — 1997’s “Jugulator” and 2001’s “Demolition” — before PRIEST reunited with Halford in 2003. Tim told Danny Stoakes that he still sometimes can’t believe that he got to front his favorite band. “It is strange, ’cause you look at ’em totally different,” he said. “You sti...
