IRON MAIDEN’s NICKO MCBRAIN: ‘We Do Not Plan To Make Long Songs’

During an appearance on a recent episode of the “Hangin’ & Bangin’: Artists On Lockdown” online show, Nicko McBrain discussed IRON MAIDEN‘s penchant for writing long, progressive intricate songs, including on the band’s latest effort, “Senjutsu”, which features three tracks whose running time exceeds 10 minutes each. Asked if he and his bandmates actually set out to write super-long songs on each new MAIDEN album, the drummer said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “Absolutely not. Most of the stuff, these long epic tunes, are really written mostly by Steve [Harris, MAIDEN bassist]. On the last album, ‘The Book Of Souls’, we had ‘Empire Of The Clouds’ [written by singer Bruce Dickinson], which was 18 minut...

In the first installment of a new three-part interview, progressive music titans DREAM THEATER discuss the making of their new album, “A View From The Top Of The World”, which is due on October 22. Speaking about how the album title came about, guitarist John Petrucci said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “Honestly, titling records is a funny thing because sometimes it comes really quickly — sometimes it even comes before — and sometimes it’s really hard trying to come up with, ‘What is the title that’s gonna reflect what this album is all about?’ This one, it was difficult. There was nothing that was really coming to mind. The things that were were… I don’t know. It’s hard to be original. Things you used or it just didn’t qu...

ANTHRAX’s FRANK BELLO: ‘I Wish I Was Born In A Time When People Were More Patient With Other People’

In a new interview with V13, ANTHRAX bassist Frank Bello, who is currently promoting his upcoming memoir, “Fathers, Brothers, And Sons: Surviving Anguish, Abandonment, And Anthrax”, spoke about his desire to go back to an era when people were more united and more compassionate to one another. “I feel like an old fart even saying this. And that’s fine. You know what? Then let it be that way,” he said. “Because the truth of the matter is we’re all human. I don’t care what you political beliefs [are] — whatever it is, man, whatever you believe in — but the older I get, the more I see this, is people need to care about one another. ‘Cause this is all we’ve got — this is it, man. “I look at the — even the older movies, which I lo...

Smashing Pumpkins Perform Siamese Dream’s “Quiet” for First Time in 27 Years: Watch

Smashing Pumpkins took the stage at Chicago’s Riot Fest on Friday night for their first live performance in over two years. Alongside greatest hits, fan favorites, and material from the band’s latest album, CYR, the 20-song setlist also included several rare performances. Billy Corgan and co. dusted off the Gish song “Crush” for the first time since 2008 and the Adore track “Shame” for the first time since 2010. But the evening’s most unexpected moment came when the Pumpkins waxed nostalgic and performed Siamese Dream’s “Quiet” for the first time since 1994. Watch fan-captured footage of “Quiet” below. Kim Kardashian Says Daughter North Is a “Goth Girl”

Sure, North West might be the child of one of the most high-profile couples of the 2010s, but rest assured that her upbringing is totally normal: She runs around the house with her siblings, she visits her dad Kanye at work, and she goes through fashion phases that she’ll certainly look back on in embarrassment one day. In a recent interview on the final season of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, mom Kim Kardashian said the 8-year-old has officially gone “full goth.” In the interview, Kardashian discussed the varying budding interests of her four children. While her three younger kids — Chicago, Psalm, and Saint — are into more standard preoccupations like Paw Patrol and tiny Birkin bags, the eldest Kardashian-West child is taking an edgier route. “She’s into Hot Topic, and she puts fak...

‘Jagged Little Pill’ Producers Address Controversy, Key Changes Around Gender Non-Conforming Character

The issue around Jo’s gender and whether they identified broadly as non-binary, as another more specific gender identity or at all, was raised as the show made its way from a Boston to Broadway stage. The character was played by Lauren Patten, a cisgender woman, but Jagged Little Pill also directly referenced that Jo at the very least wasn’t a cisgender woman or man, with the character using they/them pronouns and having their identity invalidated by various people around them, among other narrative points. Many at the time labeled Jo as non-binary, though that identity label had never been explicitly attached to the character in the show. Things became complicated after the show moved to Broadway in 2019, and audiences watched Jagged Little Pill with those previous discussions of gender r...

Why Billie Eilish Cried When She Rewatched Her Documentary

“The media just like tears it away from you,” said Eilish. “It’s not fun right now.” The conversation with Eilish, whose concert film Happier Than Ever: A Love Letter to Los Angeles premiered on Disney+ in early September and whose documentary Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry was released on Apple TV+ earlier this year, then shifted over to the artist’s relationship with fans. “One moment I was a fan, and then suddenly I was looked at as this like, higher up,” she said. “Even when I was 14. And it was so weird because I was like, ‘I’m not even anyone. I just make music and these kids that I feel like I already know — suddenly like, ‘Oh they’re Billie’s fans, an...
