Monstercat Teams Up With Westwood Recordings for Celebratory 8-Track Compilation
Westwood Recordings have teamed up with fellow Canadian record label and electronic music powerhouse Monstercat to curate a special compilation album. Comprising local talent and named after Monstercat’s annual Vancouver-based event, Compound 2021 marks the first-ever collaboration between the two imprints. The diverse compilation features eight tracks, infused with the talents of 14 artists including The Funk Hunters, Kotek, Defunk, and Akylla, among others. Cheap Finds Gold Mines has just discovered a treasure trove of over $100,000 USD-worth of retro video games. Venturing into a home that was set to be sold after the owner fell ill in 2019, they opened a room that had been closed off for 20 years. The sight of the filthy room would have been enough to deter many bargain hunters but not Cheap Finds Gold Mines, as their tenacity paid off when they laded on a huge box of sealed video games. From GameCube, PlayStation 2, and Xbox 360 games, to even Blockbuster VHS tapes, the team passed through cockroaches, rats, and spiders for a total haul upwards of $100,000 USD. Brian Wilson has announced At My Piano, a collection of new instrumental takes on Beach Boys hits. The album is out on November 19th via Decca Records. As the title suggests, the 15-track effort features piano-only renditions of Beach Boys classics such as “California Girls,” “Surf’s Up,” and “Good Vibrations.” Stripped back versions of “Wouldn’t It Be Nice,” “In My Room,” and “Don’t Worry Baby” are also included on the album.
