Giancarlo Esposito to Star in Netflix’s Heist Series Jigsaw

Netflix has been quietly working on a new heist series called Jigsaw — no, it’s not related to the infamous Saw villain — and it looks like they’ve found one of their leading men. Breaking Bad star Giancarlo Esposito has been tapped for the action-drama show, which is a loose adaption of a real-life event when $70 billion in bonds went missing in Manhattan during Hurricane Sandy. According to Deadline, Jigsaw tells the story of the largest heist ever attempted and the revenge, lies, and loyalties that surround it. Each episode of the show will take place at a different point in the heist’s timeline, extending as far back as 24 years before the gig to one year after the heist. Netflix described it as a “nonlinear approach to storytelling in a way where viewers are in control.” Joining the E...

Dune Director Denis Villeneuve Claims Marvel Movies “Have Turned Us into Zombies”

Denis Villeneuve has started promoting his new film Dune, and he has thoughts on the impact the Marvel Cinematic Universe has had on audiences over the last 13 years. Speaking with the Spanish-language outlet El Mundo, Villeneuve noted that big budget blockbuster filmmaking can retain artistic merit, citing filmmakers like Christopher Nolan and Alfonso Curaon. “Perhaps the problem is that we are in front of too many Marvel movies that are nothing more than a ‘cut and paste’ of others,” the director said. “Perhaps these types of movies have turned us into zombies a bit… But big and expensive movies of great value there are many today. I don’t feel capable of being pessimistic at all.” (English translation courtesy of Indiewire.) Villeneuve continued, “Just think of the golden age of Hollywo...

And now, the creative polymath has chosen to drop the official video for “24” — track 11 off of the record that features the Sunday Service choir. Much like the aforementioned “Come to Life” visual, this new clip is taken directly from his Mercedes-Benz Stadium and Soldier Field shows. [embedded content] The song has been resurrected from the 2018 and 2019 sessions that resulted in the group’s highly acclaimed album, Ghosteen. Sounding like a monologue from Les Miserables’ Javert, it literally becomes a “Oombaya” chant, paralleling the meditative aura of Ghosteen.  “‘Earthlings’ is the missing link that binds Ghosteen together,” Cave said. “A lovely song that just got away…” The Bad Seeds previously dropped “Vortex,” also an unreleased song from the collection. The long-anticipated follow-up to 2005’s B-Sides & Rarities is set to arrive October 22. This will be the first time the entire collection will be pressed on vinyl. Par...

Conquering – EMPLOYED TO SERVE

RATING: 8.5/10 The decades-old relationship between hardcore and heavy metal hasn’t always run smoothly. But while there are countless examples of bands that blurred the lines between the genres and ended up producing unforgivably awful music, there are also bands like the UK’s EMPLOYED TO SERVE. The overall aesthetic and clunky band name are hardcore to the bone, of course, but everything else about “Conquering” (and, indeed, its predecessors) screams the irrefutable truth that this band are making music that defies cynicism and smashes as hard as anything else out there. There’s a touch of genius in EMPLOYED TO SERVE‘s sound: it’s fervently modern but rooted in old-school notions of heaviness; it’s unapologetic in its debt to a post-SLIPKNO...
