Troubles at Activision Blizzard continue as new allegations have now been made accusing the video game giant of worker intimidation. According to Cnet, the developer has now been hit with a formal complaint from the Communication Workers of America alleging to the National Labor Relations Board that it has been intimidating workers in relation to the ongoing legal battle with the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing. More specifically, the complaint says that Activision Blizzard tried to stop employees from speaking up, and ”threatened or disciplined employees on account of protected concerted activity; engaged in surveillance of employees engaged in protected concerted activity and engaged in interrogation of employees about protected concerted activity.” After t...
A Japanese retro gaming fan has now managed to collect every single Game Boy game ever released. Announcing the massive achievement over on Twitter, user marumi_1985 posted a series of images depicting his complete collection of all 1,244 titles ever to have commercially released in Japan over the course of more than a decade between 1989 to 2001. The whole process took him just two years to accomplish, but the last eight games alone left him hanging since last spring. Luckily, he was able to track them down and purchase them over this summer, finally completing his entire set. “I started serious collecting in September of 2019, so this took two years,” marumi_1985 tweeted. “This is really something I was only able to do because of the support of so many people. If it wasn’t for [the help ...
This is an opinion column. The thoughts and viewpoints expressed are those of the author, Phil Scilippa. It’s been 17 long years since Rolling Stone published a list of the “500 Best Songs of All Time.” 17 years is quite a stretch of time to update the previous version, which many readers took issue with. That’s to be expected, though—after all, calling anything the “best” is subjective and entirely based on personal opinions. But the issue is: some people’s opinions are wrong. So after 17 years of moaning and complaining about the previous list, I took a gander at the new version released yesterday with a glimmer of hope in my eyes. But now I’m not sure why I bothered. Surely there should have been enough great music in t...

It’s that time of year again: DJ Mag is about to unleash the EDM kraken with its annual Top 100 DJs competition. Hoping to change the game is one fed up Redditor who is rallying a network of trolls to cast their ballots for a fake DJ. “initially i thought deez nuts but i thought we should make it even more ridiculous,” he said of the fictitious artist, dubbed Thicc Booty McSpin Daddy. The post has since been pinned to the top of the r/EDM subreddit by its moderators. Recommended Articles Thicc Booty McSpin Daddy has gained some serious traction so far, and the nonexistent DJ’s creator has even appealed to dance music superstar Dillon Francis for help with the campaign. Now in its 28th year, the Top 100 DJs list is no stranger to jokes...
“It was almost too good to be true,” says Udell, who has worked with artists like Krewella and ZHU. “All these people involved? Really? But then I read the white paper, and I was super inspired.” That white paper described a platform resembling Twitter, where users have profiles and can post, like, comment and share content. Anyone who joins the platform gets a creator coin in their name, the value of which theoretically fluctuates depending on that person’s social standing and how many coins are in circulation. Users can then can buy and sell each other’s coins using the platform’s native cryptocurrency, BitClout. (“If Elon Musk succeeds in landing the first person on Mars, his coin price should theoretically go up” because more users would buy his coin...
For Lucky Daye, “Love” gives the singer his second top 10, following his debut release, “Roll Some Mo,” a No. 8 success in 2019. The new single also shoots into the top 10 in just its fourth week on the list, only the fifth of 32 top 10 hits this year to do so in under a month. It joins two Silk Sonic singles, “Leave the Door Open” and “Skate,” which needed two and three weeks, respectively, and matches Tank’s “Can’t Let It Show” and D-Nice’s “No Plans for Love,” featuring Ne-Yo and Kent Jones. Beyond Earth, Wind & Fire, “You Want My Love” features behind-the-scenes involvement from another R&B legend, Babyface, who has co-writer and co-producer credits. As a writer, Babyface nabs his second top 10 of the year, following “He Don’t Know Nothin Bout It,” his collaboration with Jam x ...
The company has had a series of high-profile partnerships with major music streams — from a lyric deal with Spotify to display context behind songs, to a built-in Apple Music player on the Genius website — and even launched its own livestreaming platform last year called Genius Live. But none of its initiatives were enough to move its valuation up in the past few years. The result is a sale that will come with job cuts. “We are restructuring the way in which original content is produced at Genius and as part of that some very talented individuals on the content and production teams were let go,” MediaLab said in a statement to Bloomberg. MediaLab says it will invest in the “community platform” as it focuses on emerging artists for the platform. MediaLab owns a small group of co...

On 2020’s I Disagree, perpetual shapeshifter Poppy found catharsis within her “post-genre” chaos, utilizing whiplash transitions from djent-y metal to candy-coated electro-pop to many places in-between. Part of the thrill was submitting to the unknown of it all — like with “Concrete,” a song that somehow feels like a mash-up of Nine Inch Nails, the Beach Boys, Michelle Branch, Queen and System of a Down. But for an artist with a reputation built on surprise, perhaps the most startling U-turn is to stop swerving so wildly. Ironically, the singer’s fourth album, Flux, feels like the opposite of a flux. Working with producer Justin Meldal-Johnsen (Beck, St. Vincent, M83) and tracking live with her touring band, Poppy wound up with nine tight, hook-focused songs that favor front-to-back c...
Artist: José González Album: Local Valley Number of Tracks: 13 Label: City Slang Release Date: September 17, 2021 From a park in Gothenburg, Sweden, after a day in the sun with longtime partner Hannele Fernström and their two small children, José González took a leisurely evening stroll and spoke with us about Local Valley, his fourth solo album and his first in English, Spanish and Swedish. With Local Valley, his music—defined by artful beats and poetic lyrics—evolves into something lighthearted and wonderful, yet still masterful and epic, sometimes delightfully unexpected. As with all he does, José’s sincerity shines through. “In a way, I’m always trying to write and record music that has a touch of universal themes and melodies, but also try to stand out, try to find something that will...
