When we anticipated a collaboration between The Weeknd and Swedish House Mafia last month, little did we know how quickly it would actually come to fruition. Both of them have now teased a new collab in cryptic fashion, taking to social media to share short previews. The clips feature a glimpse into what appears to be a music video as well as the song’s lyrics, as The Weeknd croons, “Like a moth to a flame.” The teasers end in a message that reads, “To be continued,” fueling speculation that an official release is on the horizon. The pop and R&B superstar poured gasoline on the rumors in a recent episode of his Memento Mori radio show on Apple Music, wherein he explored “new Dawn era,” a reference to his next album....

Former MANOWAR guitarist Ross “The Boss” Friedman has once again apologized for his disparaging comments about the band in a recent interview, saying that he takes “full responsibility” for the words that came out of his mouth. A founding member of MANOWAR, Ross recorded six albums with the band before leaving after 1988’s “Kings Of Metal”. His work with MANOWAR included such classic LPs as 1982’s “Battle Hymns”, 1983’s “Into Glory Ride” and 1984’s “Hail To England”. Friedman discussed his time with MANOWAR during a chat with Waste Some Time With Jason Green. Recalling the circumstances surrounding his exit from the group more than three decades ago, he said: “When a band gets big and the ...
This past February, BEHEMOTH frontman Adam “Nergal” Darski was convicted for offending religious feelings by a court in Warsaw. The charges stemmed from an image the Polish musician posted on social media showing a foot stamping on a picture of the Virgin Mary. At the time, Darski was ordered to pay a fine of 15,000 złoty (approximately $4,000) and court costs of almost 3,500 zloty (approximately $942). Darski later contested the judgement and the case has now been dismissed. In the ruling, the judge wrote the photo in question was posted on Nergal‘s social media and was therefore only made available to a specific group of people who could read it after observing the disclaimer at the top of the page: “The content presented on this profile may offend your religious ...
One decade ago, a couple of untested twenty-something best friends set out to create a little music festival just off the island of Manhattan, putting on a one-day event on June 18th, 2011. In the 10 years and nine iterations since, Governors Ball has become an indelible part of the East Coast’s music landscape, morphing into New York’s answer to Coachella, Bonnaroo, and Lollapalooza; a place where the buzziest acts in music and its biggest fans converge into one memorable weekend. Here, founders, staff, and artists who played the very first Governors Ball reflect on how everything came together without nary a hiccup. This is the oral history of the first Governors Ball Music Festival. HUMBLE BEGINNINGS: A BALL IS BORN It all begins with two best friends with a dream: Tom Russell and Jorda...
This review is part of our coverage of the 2021 Toronto International Film Festival. The Pitch: When some people think of Kenny G, they think of the platinum-selling recording artist who’s shaped their childhoods, soothed their workplaces, and even soundtracked the most intimate moments in their lives. But for others, the thought of Kenny G fills them with scorn. He’s a sellout, a fake, a mop-haired purveyor of anodyne saxophone schlock. He disrespects the improvisational, group-centered dynamics of jazz in favor of treacly solo showmanship, and — even worse — subjected the world to “smooth jazz.” The man’s a paradox wrapped in an enigma topped with a curly perm he’s maintained since the 1980s — the best-selling instrumentalist of all time who nonetheless remains a pop-culture punchli...
After the dissolution of her band Sonic Youth, Kim Gordon teamed up with experimental guitarist Bill Nace to form the duo Body/Head. Now, that project is expanding with the addition of former Wolf Eyes member Aaron Dilloway for the aptly titled Body/Dilloway/Head. Today, the newly-formed trio have announced their self-titled debut, out November 19th via Three Lobed Recordings. As a preview, they’ve shared the song “Goin’ Down.” Body/Dilloway/Head combines Gordon’s pioneering alt-rock spirit with Nace and Dilloway’s knack for boundary-breaking experimentation. The album is three tracks long, with its opener clocking in at 17 minutes and the last track being over 13 minutes. A press release deems Body/Dilloway/Head as being “as disorienting a listening experience as you’re likely to enc...
Although she may have kick-started her career as one half of the R&B sister duo Chlöe X Halle, Chlöe proved she is ready to work it, work it, work it as an artist in her own right with her jaw-dropping, hip-shaking first performance of her debut solo single “Have Mercy” at Barclays Center during the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (September 12). After a heartfelt introduction by younger sister Halle Bailey, Chlöe stood confidently on stage underneath a single spotlight while dressed in a floor-length vibrant pink cape. Backed by full orchestral accompaniment, the performance soared to operatic heights as Chlöe screamed and green lightning began to crackle behind her. Reveling in her newfound magical abilities, the 23-year-old ripped off her cape to reveal a glittering pink ...
Back in 2015, a man named Fabio Zaffagnini convinced 1,000 people in his hometown of Cesena, Italy, to pull off a seeming logistical nightmare: a mass simultaneous performance of Foo Fighters‘s indelible alt-rock hit “Learn to Fly,” without any rehearsal. It worked, and the results are nothing short of inspirational. “A lot of people when they see the video say it doesn’t seem like an Italian thing,” Zaffagnini told MTV News then. “It looks like more the American Dream, you know?” “Learn to Fly” was chosen for its simplicity and universality — three chords and a lot of heart — something that’s made the Foo Fighters such a rock institution since 1995. That spirit is precisely why the group is being honored at this year’...
Even though her fairy godparent Billy Porter was present at the 2021 Video Music Awards, Camila Cabello left her glass slippers at home. This award show was a different kind of ball. The “Señorita” singer and Cinderella star is no stranger to the annual MTV awards show. In 2018, Cabello won Artist of the Year, and her hit song, “Havana” won Video of the Year. The following year, her single, “Señorita,” with her boyfriend Shawn Mendes, won Best Collaboration and Best Cinematography. This year, her latest release, “Don’t Go Yet,” off of her upcoming third studio album, Familia, was nominated for Song of Summer, and Cabello brought the heat to the VMAs stage with a lively Cuban-inspired live performance, surrounded by flamen...
