That’s why, in the lead-up to the VMAs on Sunday, September 12, MTV is launching the first-ever Trending: VMAs award celebration to highlight the creators and artists bringing music and pop culture to the palm of our hands. After 13 Albums, Low Has Come Full Circle

Low has been doing this for a long time. The now-duo of drummer-vocalist Mimi Parker and guitarist-vocalist Alan Sparhawk has been making music since the ‘90s, and they have 13 studio records under their belt, as well as various EPs, one-off singles, and live albums. Many artists have formed and disbanded in the time that Low has been making music, and Sparhawk considers himself lucky. “It took a long time to get there,” Sparhawk explains to SPIN over Zoom. “I feel lucky that we’re still doing it.” Their 13th album, Hey What, furthers the trajectory initially laid out on 2015’s Ones and Sixes. It marks their third consecutive album working with prominent indie producer BJ Burton, who has contributed to Low’s stylistic plunge into digitally altered soundscapes. Whereas the group’s earlier o...

Adios: Mexico To Take Down Statue of Lost Sailor Christopher Columbus

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: NurPhoto / Getty Christopher Columbus might’ve “discovered” Mexico along with many other countries that were already inhabited, but Mexico has decided to pull the plug on his likeness and is taking steps to wash themselves of his legacy. According to Raw Story, Mexico has decided to remove a statue of the infamous colonizer that stands tall in Mexico City and will replace him with one of an indigenous women because, duh. The move was announced yesterday (September 6), just days before Mexico’s 200th independence anniversary. If Donald Trump was still President you know he’d do something punish Mexico removing a statue of a murderous colonizer who helped jumpstart white supremacy on a continent inhabited by indigenous people and original cultures. Still, f...

Tony Hawk Covers Millencolin’s “No Cigar” from Tony Hawk Pro Skater Soundtrack: Watch

Like a goofy-footed DeLorean, Tony Hawk’s skateboard can travel backwards in time. As proof, look no further than the new video of the legendary skater singing (!?) a cover of Millencolin’s “No Cigar,” which will transport you to the year 2000, when your back never hurt, the art world yawned at the election between Bush and Gore, and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 had just hit the shelves. If you were fortunate enough to play the original run of Pro Skater games, then you’ll remember the soundtracks, which did as much to advance the art of video games as any graphical upgrade. For this new cover of “No Cigar,” Hawk was joined on guitary by Mikey Hawdon of Fairmounts, as well as Millencolin’s Nikola Sarcevic on bass, pro skater Steve Caballero on a guitar shaped like a sk...

Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson has recovered from a breakthrough infection of COVID-19, and is advising people to get vaccinated. The metal legend insists that it’s not “just a flu,” and could even result in erectile dysfunction for men. Speaking with Sirius XM’s Eddie Trunk, Dickinson said it took him 10 days to get over the virus and an additional week to regain his sense of smell. The singer added that he was double vaccinated in May and urged others to do the same in order to avoid serious complications and hospitalization. “It’s a bit more than a flu,” Dickinson said (as transcribed by Blabbermouth). “I would really caution against people who go, ‘Oh, it’s just a flu.’ No, it’s not. And I know a lot of people who were not vaccinated — not because they didn’t want to be, but t...
