GENE SIMMONS Apologizes To DAVID LEE ROTH: ‘I Am Ashamed That I Hurt His Feelings’

Gene Simmons has apologized to David Lee Roth for implying in a recent interview that the VAN HALEN frontman was past his prime. Roth performed as the opening act for the February/March 2020 North American leg of KISS‘s farewell tour, but is not making any appearances on the rescheduled KISS shows which kicked off on August 18 in Mansfield, Massachusetts. Simmons explained Roth‘s absence from the trek by telling Rolling Stone: “[Roth] took being a frontman way beyond anything. And then, I don’t know what happened to him … something. And you get modern-day Dave. I prefer to remember Elvis Presley in his prime. Sneering lips, back in Memphis, you know, doing all that. I don’t want to think of bloated naked Elvis on the bathroom floor.” Apparently irked at ...

OVERKILL: ‘The Atlantic Years 1986 -1994’ Vinyl And CD Box Sets Due In October

An integral part of the early-’80s thrash metal movement that spawned acts like METALLICA and ANTHRAX, New Jersey’s OVERKILL garnered a reputation for brutal, pounding speed and technique. Taking their moniker from the 1979 MOTÖRHEAD album of the same name, an early demo, “Power In Black”, made waves in the underground tape-trading circuit and caught the attention of Megaforce Records, which issued the band’s full-length studio debut, “Feel The Fire”, in 1985. High-profile shows alongside luminaries like SLAYER and ANTHRAX followed, and with the American thrash scene in full tilt, OVERKILL inked a major-label deal with Atlantic, which put out their sophomore effort, 1987’s uncompromising “Taking Over”. This was followed quickly in...

The Alternative Notting Hill Carnival Events Happening in London This Weekend

Last year, for the first time in 54-year history, 2020’s Notting Hill Carnival was cancelled. Sadly, despite hopes of its organizers and the lifting of restrictions across the majority of the U.K., 2021’s iteration has been faced with the same outcome as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Traditionally taking place over the August bank holiday weekend, the event — which celebrates Afro-Caribbean culture and has become a significant event in Black British culture — sees hundreds of thousands of revellers hit the streets of Notting Hill and Kensington, in a two-day mashup of music, live performances, and food. Taking place in London since 1966, Notting Hill Carnival has become a staple in the British calendar — so much so that in 2006 it was voted onto a list of iconic events in Engl...
