It’s been over 16 years since Psychonauts released and nearly 6 since its sequel was announced, and while fans got a bite-sized virtual reality adventure back in 2017 with Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin, yesterday was the big day for those waiting on the next full-length adventure from Razputin Aquato and the rest of the Psychonauts. It’s the long-awaited release week of Psychonauts 2, and the folks at Double Fine Productions know how much the title means to some fans. That’s one of the many reasons they worked hard to keep the sequel as true to the original as possible in some respects — like bringing back veteran composer and Double Fine founder Tim Schafer’s go-to musical collaborator, Peter McConnell (Sly Cooper 2-4, pretty much every Star Wars/LucasArts game from the ‘90s and 2000...
Author’s note: the names in the article have been changed, the memories have not. According to Forbes, Jimmy Buffett is worth just north of half a billion dollars. All because he wrote a tune while getting shit-faced one afternoon in Austin, Texas. It was 1976. Jimmy Buffett sat in Lung’s Cocina del Sur. He had just finished a series of gigs opening for Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention. At the time, it seemed like a smart move, but, mostly, Buffett played to a lot of confused, zonked-out freaks. He sat in the bar, reflecting on his career, his time in Key West, and what the future might hold. Buffett’s drink at the moment: a margarita The song, “Margaritaville,” released Feb. 14, 1977, paints the portrait of a hungover man. He spends his days loafing about a small beach commu...
Migos took over the latest installment of NPR’s Tiny Desk (Home) Concert series on Wednesday. Hot on the heels of Culture III‘s release, the chart-topping trio — comprised of Quavo, Offset and Takeoff — performed several of their latest tracks from the comfort of Gallery Dept.’s eclectic, art-filled living room. Employing a full band, the group begins with the album’s opener, “Avalanche,” casually bouncing between their respective verses while seated next to a mannequin wearing an orange spacesuit. The Atlanta rappers then stand up from the couch to perform their fast-paced Culture III single, “Straightenin,” with fully charged energy. At the song’s completion, Takeoff hands a lighter to Quavo, who finds the perfect transition into the group’s final track, “Birthday,” by lig...

By Max Freedman Indigo de Souza writes about thrilling moments of personal revelation as though finally cementing a long-fomenting, highly specific feeling is the ultimate emotional release. When she sings, “Now that everyone’s gone, I can tell you the truth / I don’t love you, I like you!” on 2018’s “Take Off Ur Pants,” she yelps it with so much ecstasy and liberation you can visualize triple exclamation marks. A standout instance of unburdening and excitement on Any Shape You Take, the follow-up to her anthemic yet spare debut I Love My Mom, is of a kindred spirit. “I’d rather die / Than see you cry!” de Souza exclaims on “Die/Cry,” on which jokes and epiphanies collide atop a semi-staccato power-chord run with giant indie-meets-pop-punk energy. It makes sense: de Souza tells MTV News th...
HipHopWired Featured Video It’s been a turbulent few weeks for DaBaby. Once the sweetheart of the Hip-Hop game, the North Carolina rapper rubbed many the wrong way by beefing with Megan Thee Stallion, partnering up with her alleged shooter, Tory Lanez, and ultimately making some homophobic comments at his show. Still, looking to take it all in stride, DaBaby continues to live his life as if it’ll blow over (it probably won’t) and in his latest visuals to “Whole Lotta Money” showcases himself dancing, balling and poking fun at his “Cancelled” status by wiping away crocodile tears. Yeah, he’s not really helping his situation. Elsewhere Lil Yachty is living his best life in his own way and in his clip to the DC2Trill assisted “Lord Of The Beans” records himself getting a new tattoo in the stu...
