New York’s Central Park ‘Homecoming Concert’ Closes Down Due to ‘Approaching Severe Weather’

“This is NOT an emergency,” clarified New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio via his official Twitter account when the announcement was made. According to local news, tropical storm warnings were issued for New York City, with hurricane warnings from Long Island to Rhode Island. Amid CNN’s continued coverage after the event was stopped — while it was unclear whether it would continue — Anderson Cooper spoke on the phone with stars including Elvis Costello, Patti Smith and Colbert. “I am watching historic broadcasting right now,” said Colbert from the performance tent. “I am enjoying this moment of you killing time. You are spinning straw into gold.” Smith, who told Cooper that she was “on-call” offsite with her band as they waited for further instructions, shared a message she felt was importa...

Kacey Musgraves ‘Sets the Scene’ for New Song With Some Heartbreaking Lyrics

The words described the heartache of a relationship that’s ended, perhaps alluding to her own divorce from Ruston Kelly. Put together, her posts read: “Let me set the scene/ Two lovers ripped right at the seams/ They woke up from the perfect dream/ And then the darkness came/ I signed the papers yesterday/ You came and took your things away/ Moved out of the home we made/ And gave you back your name/ What have we done? / Did we fly too high?/ Just to get burned by the sun?/ No one’s to blame/ ‘Cause we called all the angels to save us/ But I guess they got lost…” Comments ranged from sad faces to announcements about being “all in” and “ready” for the new tune. “They see me as this starry-eyed, rose-colored glasses kinda girl...

TRIVIUM’s MATT HEAFY: SLIPKNOT’s First Album ‘Changed My Life’

In a new interview with Meltdown of Detroit’s WRIF radio station, TRIVIUM frontman Matt Heafy was asked which musician deaths in the past year he’s been most affected by. He responded (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “It’s been so many. There’s three I wanna go over. Joey Jordison, obviously. SLIPKNOT‘s ‘(sic)’ was the first song TRIVIUM ever played. I remember being in middle school and high school hiding my headphones underneath my hair during class to listen to that first SLIPKNOT record. That record changed my life. I got to do ‘Family Values’, and Joey Jordison was on that tour, playing drums for KORN. And I’m so happy I was able to tell Joey that. I told Joey those stories, about what an impact SLIPKNOT had on my ...

The remainder of We Love NYC: The Homecoming Concert has been canceled due to severe weather caused by Hurricane Henri. Organized by Clive Davis, the massive event in Central Park celebrated New York City’s re-opening following the COVID-19 pandemic. While acts like Journey, LL Cool J, Santana, Andrea Bocelli, and Barry Manilow did take the stage, the event was canceled before headliners including Bruce Springsteen, Paul Simon, Patti Smith, Elvis Costello, and The Killers were able to perform. “What a Time”: Calvin Harris Reflects On 10th Anniversary of “Feel So Close”

A decade ago, Calvin Harris wanted to step into the background. It was summer of 2010, and the emerging producer had just finished his last “band”-style gig at Creamfields.  With a newfound desire to focus on presenting his music within the scope of DJ sets instead, Harris was eager to blend into the background a bit. That meant delegating the role of singing his own music. Harris subsequently spent months in the studio working with singers on what he believed would be his next chapter of music, but after presenting the demos to his label, the response was “overwhelmingly lukewarm.” With the wind taken out of his sails, Harris was feeling impulsive. An emotional cocktail of disappointment, sadness, and determination was what it took for Harris to write “F...

Kanye West Shares Childhood Home Photo Ahead of ‘Donda’ Release, Deletes Other Instagram Posts

Last year, Kanye bought his childhood home for a reported $225,000. His late mother, Donda West, purchased the house in the early 1980s and sold it in 2004. The property reportedly went through foreclosure before it was bought by West’s former collaborator, Rhymefest, who planned to turn the home into an “arts incubator.” Since returning to Instagram in late July, West had shared numerous posts on the social media platform. The images included his makeshift bedroom inside Atlanta’s Mercedes Benz Stadium, where he held his first two Donda listening events and had been living while completing work on the album. While Yeezy fans have clamored online over the superstar collaborations he’s cooked up with Jay-Z, The Weeknd and Lil Baby, Roddy Ricch, and more, Donda has not been given...

Dead & Company Fans Falls to His Death During Concert at New York’s Citi Field

The fan was later pronounced dead after being taken to the New York Presbyterian Hospital in Queens. His identity has not yet been released to the public. It was unclear at press time if the man’s death was accidental, police spokesman Hubert Reyes told CNN. A police source told the Daily News that the concert-goer “attempted a body flip, fell, and landed on the balcony below.” A driver working at Citi Field supported that claim, telling The New York Post that he witnessed the fan fall after attempting to flip. “He was unresponsive and he hit the ground head first. There was no way he survived,” the driver told the Post. “His brother came downstairs and found out he jumped. His brother was with him. He was crying.” Billboard has reached out to the Dead & Company’s rep...

Marchers Demand Return of Dutch Music Festivals

Leonie der Verkleij, a freelancer who works in hospitality services at events, was among those marching in Amsterdam. “The festival industry feels like an unwanted child,” she said. “It feels like all sectors are important except ours.” Amsterdam municipality appealed mid-afternoon for no more people to join the march as it was too crowded. The Dutch government has banned large-scale events such as festivals until at least Sept. 19 amid fears over the spread of the highly infectious delta variant. One-day events with a maximum of 750 visitors are allowed for people with a COVID-19 app showing they have been vaccinated, have recently tested negative or have recovered from a case in the past six months. Organizers of Saturday’s protest want the ban lifted on Sept. 1. They point to overseas e...
