After the unfortunate postponement of the famed Canadian music festival two years in a row, Shambhala is set to return to the Salmo River Ranch next summer. The 23rd edition of the family-run festival was initially slated for July 2020, but due to ongoing COVID-19 concerns the gathering was rescheduled for late August 2021. Unfortunately, the event was then shelved for a second time earlier this year. Alas, thousands of attendees will be welcomed to return to the festival for what may very well be the greatest “Farmily” reunion of all-time from July 22nd to 25th, 2022. Organizers have not yet announced a lineup for the 2022 event, but fans are safe to expect a stellar list of artists for the grand return of the festival. Over 300 performers w...

Since bursting onto the scene in 2017 with the twisted melodic lullaby “Sleepwalker,” AWAY has become an enigma within the electronic music community. Though he’s been selective and sporadic in his release schedule, he’s made every offering count—and the demand to hear more is at an all-time high. AWAY has been teasing a long-form body of work since late 2020, but now we’re finally seeing the plan come together with the release of “Ritual.” The track marks the first single in his forthcoming self:antiself EP, which does not yet have an official release date. An unauthorized six-day rave that claimed the life of one and hospitalized several others was finally broken up by police north of Rome. The event reportedly drew thousands across Europe. A 24-year-old man named Gianluca Santiago, of London, sadly lost his life in the midst of the event. He was found dead offshore of the nearby Lake Mezzano. According to EuroObserver, attendees experienced a hellish landscape characterized by strewn syringes, dogs dying from starvation and heat exhaustion, and rampant sexual assault. A baby was also born amid the chaos, according to local media. “The situation is out of control, no negotiation is possible, public order must be restored, people identified and the responsibility for such a gathering established,” said Lazio regional health c...
For great musicians, their instruments become extensions of their bodies, acting as a conduit for creative expression. A new analog synthesizer from SOMA Laboratory seeks to do the same, applying this mind-body connection to electronic music. Blending together “inner” and “energy,” the ENNER synthesizer is described as a “body-patching synth” that connects a player’s emotional state to its metal pads through weak electrical currents. Its sounds are deeply sensitive to human touch, dependent on the pressure, speed and angle with which a performer uses the device. “Your hands become the central part of the circuitry,” the synth’s description reads. “Signals (passing) through your body define the mixing, volume, timbre, fe...

The Dungeon Family said, ‘Wake up!’ Today, Big Boi and Sleepy Brown have shared another somnolent-themed single, “The Big Sleep Is Over,” featuring Kay-I. It’s the latest preview of their long-in-the-works collaborative album The Big Sleepover, which will be dropping September 3rd. Fans have been hearing about The Big Sleepover since 2019, and while the duo had promised its arrival in 2020, they must have forgotten to set their alarm. But if “The Big Sleep Is Over” is any indication, it will have been worth the wait. Producer Sleepy Brown has built a groovy track out of relaxed pianos and urgent 808s, allowing plenty of space for Big Boi’s stutter-step flow. “N****s sleeping but I’m wide awake/ It’s time to make the donuts by my lonely we can’t hibernate/...
