Below, Billboard ranks every track on Lorde’s third album: 12. “Dominoes” “Dominoes” is a pretty little song, it’s just not the one you go back to again and again after hearing it for the first time. Recorded at Electric Lady Studios with the doors open, one cool feature of this track is that some of the ambient noises from outside fill up the background. “You can hear a lot of sirens because there were a ton of protests that summer,” she wrote for Spotify. “I like that it sounds like how that summer sounded.” 11. “Leader of a New Regime” This track is a quick, just slightly confusing break from the world where most of the other songs on Solar Power take place. Lorde harmonizes with herself in stacked, crackling vocal lines — now a certified hallmark of ...

Someone has just managed to successfully copyright his own Magic: The Gathering deck of cards. According to reports, an assistant professor of materials science and engineering at the University of Michigan and known legal provocateur by the name of Dr. Robert Hovden copyrighted his own personal deck of cards. The story broke from journalist Cory Doctorow, who revealed that Hovden’s filing at the United States Copyright Office was successful, but raised a number of concerns for other players within the Magic: The Gathering world. “Hovden’s public communications around this tease that he may prohibit others from using this deck in tournament play, and says it’s all about ‘owning culture and people’s participation in culture through copyright,’” wrote Doctorow. The filing has no doubt c...

Canadian metal outfit SPIRITBOX has released the official music video for a brand new song titled “Hurt You”. Speaking about the new song and the accompanying music video, which can be viewed below, SPIRITBOX guitarist Mike Stringer states: “‘Hurt You’ is a song that was written before the pandemic, in early 2020 during a snowstorm. We were stuck inside, and couldn’t go anywhere, so this song flowed out of myself, Courtney [LaPlante, vocals] and our producer Dan pretty quick. The subject matter of the song explores toxic codependency, and the feeling of knowing that something is doomed to fail, but making the choice t...
In the wake of WHITESNAKE‘s massive global success, the band’s founder and lead singer, David Coverdale, set out to record his third solo album in 1995. However, the plan was derailed when pressure from his record label forced him to change course and release “Restless Heart” under the DAVID COVERDALE & WHITESNAKE moniker. Despite the changes, the 1997 album was a Top 40 hit in the U.K. Surprisingly, the record was never released in the U.S. That will change this fall when Rhino introduces several versions of “Restless Heart”, including a four-disc boxed set. “Restless Heart: Super Deluxe Edition” will be available on October 29 and is available for pre-order now. The 4CD/DVD collection features newly remastered and remixed versions of th...
James Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson have doubled down, once again, on the possibility of bringing the franchise to the small screens. When it was first announced that Amazon was in talks with MGM, which holds the rights to the Bond franchise, it sparked rumors across the industry that there may potentially be a TV spinoff down the line. That’s what we do.” Adds Wilson: “We’ve resisted that call for 60 years.” When asked about what the future of the franchise may look like, the producers responded, “I think we just really want to celebrate this and celebrate Daniel, and then when the dust settles, then look at the landscape and figure out what the future is. Although I thi...
Sunmi brings retro ‘80s, ‘90s, and even early 2000s aesthetics in her latest track, starting with the title, a reference to Gretchen Wieners’s iconic line from Mean Girls. The K-pop star sings about her frustrated, angry, and torn feelings to her love interest: “Hurry, it’s time to call my girls / I’ll get you / Where are you? On my way / I have no intention of hating you, you know / You can’t sit with us, oh / I hate you / When I think of you, I’m feelin’ faded.” She even goes out of her usual comfort zone by rapping in the second verse: “Tell ’em you’ve found the only one who blеw you up, yeah / Don’t call me ‘honey’ ‘causе I ain’t gonna be no sweet girl.” Hate is not the opposite of love. Indifference is. —Athena Serrano You De...
