Less than a month after Farm Aid 2021 was announced, one of the founders of the fundraiser, Neil Young, has withdrawn from the concert over concerns about COVID-19. In a statement on the Neil Young Archives, the venerable songwriter wrote, “My soul tells me it would be wrong.” Young is a Farm Aid board member alongside Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, and Dave Matthews, all of whom are expected to perform. “While I respect Willie, John and Dave’s decisions to stick with it and play, I am not of the same mind,” Young wrote. “It is a tough call.” As he explained his thinking, “I find myself wondering whether Farmaid will be safe for everyone with the Covid pandemic surging. I worry about that. I don’t want to let anybody down, but still can’t shake the feeling that it might not be safe for ev...
Noah Baumbach has been quietly working on a new film adaptation of White Noise, the 1985 novel by Don DeLillo. Although its still coming together behind the scenes, he’s been busy finding the perfect actors to star in the movie, and the latest addition might just be the coolest: André 3000. According to the Cleveland Scene, the legendary Outkast rapper will join a cast that includes big names like Adam Driver and Greta Gerwig. None of their roles in the film have been revealed just yet, but the paper did state that filming is taking place in Cleveland, Ohio under the name Wheat Germ/White Noise. They also said André 3000 has been walking around the city with “his cool-ass flute and chill vibes” and “cheerfully posing for selfies with fans,” which is always nice to hear. For those who’ve no...
Japanese Breakfast has shared a lovely cover of Sufjan Stevens’ Michigan track “Romulus.” The rendition was recorded at New York City’s iconic Electric Lady Studios for Japanese Breakfast’s appearance on SiriusXMU tonight (August 18th). Remaining as gentle as the original, Michelle Zauner’s take is even more lush than Stevens’ original, thanks to a deeper emphasis on the piano notes and replacing the banjo with a violin. Take a listen below. Zauner’s appearance on the satellite radio network will surely find her discussing the banner year she’s been having. Her new record, Jubilee, has received much acclaim since it’s June release, with the musician herself saying it marks the start of a “new chapter” in her career. A reminder that Larry David wore a MAGA hat on Curb Your Enthusiasm to make an ironic point: The comedian reportedly openly screamed at Alan Dershowitz in public after bumping into him in a store. David and Dershowitz were once pals, both staunchly Democratic, but apparently the Seinfeld creator took issue with the law professor’s involvement in Trump’s first impeachment defense. According to a report by Page Six that was confirmed by Dershowitz himself, the two crossed path at the Chilmark General Store on Martha’s Vineyard. When Dershowitz approached David, the latter tried to walk away, but the former pressed on. “We can still talk, Larry,” Dershowitz reportedly said. “No. No. We really can’t,” replied an increasingly irate David. “I saw you. I saw you with your arm ...
Last week it was announced that San Francisco Bay Area thrashers EXODUS have tapped John Tempesta to play drums for the band at two upcoming festivals — at Psycho Las Vegas on August 22 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada and at Full Terror Assault on September 11 at Hogrock Campground in Cave In Rock, Illinois — while Tom Hunting is recovering from surgery. Tempesta was a member of EXODUS from 1989 until 1993 and played on the band’s albums “Impact Is Imminent” (1990) and “Force Of Habit” (1992). EXODUS singer Steve “Zetro” Souza addressed the temporary drummer change during the latest installment of his Zetro’s Toxic Vault YouTube livestream. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “If anybody has seen the post this week. Tom H...
Buddy “Blaze” Webster, the instrument designer who alleged that he hadn’t been paid for sales of the late PANTERA guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott‘s classic “Dean From Hell” guitar, which he said he helped create, died over the weekend. No cause for his death has been revealed. In April 2017, Webster filed a lawsuit against Armadillo Enterprises, the parent company of Dean Guitars, and Dimebag‘s estate, claiming that “Dean From Hell” was designed in the 1980s after Webster met and developed a friendship with Dimebag. In November 2018, a judgment was entered in favor of the defendants in the Middle District of Florida, where the suit was transferred in July 2017. There is a three-year statute of limitations on copyright act...
SOULFLY drummer Zyon Cavalera has blasted his former bandmate Marc Rizzo, saying that the guitarist is trying to drag the Cavalera “family name through the mud and play the victim.” Although Rizzo‘s departure from SOULFLY wasn’t officially announced until August 7, it was widely speculated that he was out of the group two days earlier when it was revealed that FEAR FACTORY‘s Dino Cazares will play guitar for SOULFLY on the band’s upcoming U.S. tour, which kicks off on August 20 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Rizzo addressed his split with SOULFLY in a new interview with Aftershocks TV. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “I haven’t been happy in SOULFLY for a long time. The fans know what’s up, man. It’s all over the messag...
Dino Cazares has confirmed that he has found a new singer for FEAR FACTORY. Although the guitarist has yet to reveal the new FEAR FACTORY vocalist’s identity, he did indicate that the musician in question has experience and is “kind of known” within the metal scene. Cazares, who co-founded FEAR FACTORY more than three decades ago, discussed his search for a replacement for the band’s original frontman Burton C. Bell in a brand new interview with Bucketlist TV. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “For those of you who don’t know, our singer quit after 30 years, so I’ve been looking for a new singer. And I’m first here to tell you that I have definitely nailed it down to one person. I’m not gonna reveal who that is yet — not yet...
The Weeknd has released his Thursday mixtape as a stand-alone album to celebrate ten years since its release. It’s the first time the mixtape is available in its entirety in its original format, as it was remastered ahead of its inclusion in the compilation album Trilogy, which also comprises revamped versions of his other 2011 mixtape releases House of Balloons and Echoes of Silence, as well as three additional songs. The musically diverse tape explores themes of heartbreak, substance use and the rapper’s rising fame, after the preceding tape in the series put him on the radar of critics and expanded his fanbase beyond the Toronto rap scene. Thursday’s release is accompanied by a capsule collection in collaboration with the Japanese artist MR., who works under the mentorship of Takas...
Teasing his third solo album, Kevin Abstract has dropped the track “Sierra Nights,” featuring his longtime friend and collaborator Ryan Beatty. The laid-back summertime single hears Abstract rap about “working nine to fives” while “dreaming of L.A.” from his suburban hometown in Texas. Fellow BROCKHAMPTON member Beatty joins in on the chorus. Following last month’s “SLUGGER” featuring $NOT and slowthai, this new song comes paired with a visual in the style of a home movie, following the artists from hanging out with their friends in a nondescript bedroom to stargazing on a rooftop to spitting bars at a gas station. Abstract first previewed the song on Twitter on August 9, where one user joked under the snippet that the BROCKHAMPTON members “love gas stations,” referencing the group’s frequ...
