HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Bernard Smalls / @PhotosByBeanz Dr. Dre’s once-dormant official Twitter account says that “Dr. Dre doesn’t Tweet” but apparently he hands out Ls. The good Doc lit up the Internet with his first tweet in two years when his account commented underneath a post by a Twitter user named @bowyoade about British singer-songwriter VV Brown‘s feature in the Metro UK. He replied with a lonely “L”. But why? The Internet started sleuthing. What is the significance of the L? Does it mean she lost? Is the L the Roman numeral 50? Is she an ex? Maybe he forgot to log out of his burner account like Kevin Durant famously once did? Dr. Dre’s previous tweet was from 2019 when he posted a photo of him and Kanye West with a caption teasing that Kanye’s “Jesus Is ...

An Evening With Silk Sonic is nearly finished and while the LP was initially slated to premiere in the fall, Mars and .Paak told the publication that they wanted to spread out the song releases so that each one is given greater consideration by listeners. “I don’t want to be binge-watched,” Mars said. Silk Sonic has already shared two singles: the Billboard chart-topper “Leave the Door Open” and last month’s follow-up, “Skate.” Both tracks are heavily inspired by ‘70s funk, offering a look into the forthcoming album and the influence of leading names in the genre, such as Bootsy Collins, on the project. In the wake of the allegation the organizers of Lost Lands, Bass Canyon, and Paradise Blue have removed STUCA from the lineup of each music festival. Orla Gartland Charts Twentysomething Chaos With Woman On The Internet

By Carson Mlnarik With 26 years under her belt, much of which is crystallized in an uncontrived social media presence dating back to 2009, Orla Gartland has gleaned a lesson or two about life. It’s especially apt that the Dublin-born singer-songwriter opens her debut album Woman on the Internet, out Friday (August 20), with “Things That I’ve Learned,” a laundry list of directives derived from her odyssey through twentysomething chaos. Don’t compare yourself to others, take up space, say what’s on your mind — and, as she sings, don’t buy the jeans that you’ve never seen. “You’ll regret it.” There’s a universality and wizened edge to her words over a staccato beat and the chorus of her own voice, coupled with a douse of winking quirkiness, like she’s reciting from your diary. But it’s also h...

Found Out About Youth: How Gin Blossoms Became My Small-Town Alt-Rock Saviors

I was 13 going on 14 when I started working at a family-run supermarket in Whitehorse, Yukon called Food Fair. It was the summer of 1995; Toy Story was a new movie that challenged our expectations of animation and Randy Newman; we were beginning to grapple with the reality of the Frappuccino; and we flirted with Pogs as the next Marbles. But I remember Gin Blossoms the most. Yes, the “Hey Jealousy” band. But to me, they were so much more.  At a time in my life when the grocery store’s overhead PA system was my lifeline, Gin Blossoms were my alt-rock radio saviors — raining down hard truths about lust masquerading as love as I sat on a milk crate, turning cans so all the labels faced the same direction, always English side out. (There was a secret war being waged on the French-spe...

Garth Brooks Cancels Remaining 2021 Tour Dates Due to COVID-19

Garth Brooks thought his 2021 would be more “Learning to Live Again” and less “The Fever,” but COVID-19 had other ideas. Amid surging case numbers, the country music legend has cancelled the remaining five dates on his stadium tour. The news affects concerts scheduled in Cincinnati, OH, Charlotte, NC, Boston, MA, and Baltimore, MD. Additionally, a July show in Nashville, TN that had been rained out will not be rescheduled for this year. Tickets purchased through Ticketmaster will be automatically refunded. “In July, I sincerely thought the pandemic was falling behind us,” Brooks said in a statement. “Now, watching this new wave, I realize we are still in the fight and I must do my part. I have asked the wonderful cities of Cincinnati and Charlotte to wait too long and I don’t want to now d...

To share the news, Rateliff and company have offered a preview with the lead single “Survivor.” The Future was recorded at Rateliff’s studio just outside his home base of Denver, Colorado. “I look at the album overall as a big question,” the musician explained in a statement. “When I was writing the record we were in the middle of a pandemic and our future looked pretty bleak. I just continue to try to write from a place of hope. Then my own neurosis, and maybe being a Libra gets in the way, and I can’t make up my mind. There is this constant back and forth battle in me personally and I am sure...
