Son of a Preacher Man: Our 1989 Terence Trent D’Arby Cover Story

This article originally appeared in the October 1989 issue of SPIN. At 8:30 in the morning, the interview finally over, Terence Trent D’Arby still wants to talk. The English sun, such as it is, has begun to trickle in through the windows of his Knightsbridge townhouse, and turned the streets outside, a quiet neighborhood of  “doctors and arms dealers,” according to D’Arby, from a slate gray to the chalky color of a forgotten cup of coffee. Another London summer day is just beginning.  D’Arby’s girlfriend, Mary, and their seven-and-a-half-month-old daughter, Sarafina, have already come downstairs for the morning. “Would you stay for breakfast?” he asks, addressing both me and the CBS vice president in charge of publicity, Marilyn Laverty, who has waited on a cotton sofa ...

Ex-OZZY OSBOURNE Bassist BOB DAISLEY On ‘Bark At The Moon’ Era: ‘To Be Honest With You, I Didn’t Really Want To Go Back’

In a new feature by music journalist Joel Gausten, veteran bassist Bob Daisley (OZZY OSBOURNE, RAINBOW, URIAH HEEP, Gary Moore) discusses a variety of topics, including his new project THE UPSTARTS, the passing of former OZZY OSBOURNE/URIAH HEEP drummer Lee Kerslake, URIAH HEEP‘s missed opportunity to break into America and his return to the Osbourne camp for 1983’s “Bark At The Moon”. An excerpt from the feature appears below. Although Daisley‘s body of work boasts plenty of undisputed heavy hitters, not every release to feature his name succeeded in capturing widespread attention. When asked to name one release that he felt deserved more listens, he was quick to point to “Abominog”, his excellent yet tragically overlooked 1982 album with URIAH HE...

Former JUDAS PRIEST guitarist K.K. Downing, who is currently promoting the debut album from his new band KK’S PRIEST, discussed the future of the heavy metal genre during a brand new interview with Chile’s Radio Futuro. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “The album ‘Sermons Of The Sinner’ is a big kind of message. There’s things in there. We need to heed the warning that us dinosaurs… I’m actually gonna be 70 years old this year. And you never know what’s gonna happen in life. adidas Sells Reebok for $2.5B, Still Drops A New Human Rights Collection

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Reebok / Reebok For a while there was talk that adidas was looking to unload their Reebok brand to the highest bidder with rumors that Master P and Baron Davis were interested in purchasing the OG sneaker brand. Well, it’s a done deal and Reebok will officially have new owners (not Master P or Baron Davis, though) as Reuters is reporting that adidas offloaded Reebok for a cool $2.5 billion to Authentic Brands Group. Not quite the profit they might’ve been hoping to get. Heck, they didn’t even break even as adidas purchased Reebok in 2006 for $3.8 billion only to struggle with sales and profits over the years which pushed them to just give up on the brand. They’ve tried everything from retro’ing classic silhouettes from OG’s NBA players like Shaquille O’Ne...

CloZee’s Hypnotic “Nouvelle Era” EP Will Transport You to a New Sonic Dimension

It’s rare to find an artist as consistently cutting-edge as “world bass” producer CloZee. Her ear for textured samples and intricate melodies is second to none, as demonstrated by her transcendent sophomore album, July 2020’s Neon Jungle.  Pushing the envelope even more is the French musician’s latest EP, Nouvelle Era, released via her own Odyzey Music banner. CloZee has managed to craft a true work of art with this release—one where each musical bar proves more interesting than the last. Its six soundscapes practically enter a new dimension, teeming with complexity and color. The record’s titular track, for example, reimagines funky trap synths into rich, almost alien-like bass ornaments. “Farewell,” on the other hand, is built aro...
