AEG Presents, the second-largest live events promoter, will require proof of full COVID-19 vaccination for concertgoers and event staff upon entry at all of their upcoming venues and shows. AEG will not accept just a negative COVID test to get in. In a statement posted on their website, AEG said that the decision stemmed from the “dramatic surge in Covid-19 cases as the Delta variant spreads throughout the United States.” “We have come to the conclusion that, as a market leader, it was up to us to take a real stand on vaccination status,” Jay Marciano, COO of AEG and Chairman and CEO of AEG Presents, said in a statement. “Just a few weeks ago, we were optimistic about where our business, and country, were heading. The Delta variant, combined with vaccine hesitancy, is pushing us in the wro...
The perfect dose of psychedelics may differ from person to person, but everyone can agree it lies somewhere between “Is it working?” and “Run! The moon is chasing us!” And as the medicinal benefits of psilocybin, MDMA, DMT, and more become harder for regulators to ignore, scientists are working on better delivery systems. As Vice reports, Bexson Biomedical has developed a wearable pump, based on the same principles as an insulin pump, that would give its users precise control over the length and intensity of their trips. Bexson co-founders Gregg Peterson and Jeffrey Becker developed their device in response to the opioid crisis, with the hope of “creating a non-opioid therapy that patients can go home with.” It currently works with ketamine, and while human trials may be coming next y...
Pop-punk is having its time in the sun once again, as different iterations of the genre swim around the Billboard Hot 100 and streaming charts. This time, though, a new class of pop stars and rappers are taking the reins. While the genre itself has never disappeared completely from the mainstream, very few pop-punk groups have held onto their roots and excelled throughout the last ten years. Before the relatively short days of Lil Peep and Juice WRLD’s bursts of emo-inflected rap across radio stations and online publications, pop-punk had, for many, become a symbol of a dying era — it was a genre to be defended to some, and a genre to be forgotten to others. Enter Consequence’s August Artist of the Month Meet Me @ the Altar, a trio who found each other on the internet and bonded over their...
Lollapalooza was one of the first major music festivals to return since the pandemic began, meaning that for better or worse, it acted as a test case for how the live music industry might fare over the next few months. Although the festival’s execution of safety protocols raised some eyebrows, city officials like Chicago Department of Public Health commissioner Allison Arwady says that the massive event did not cause a major spike in coronavirus cases. “We are now 14 days past the first day of Lolla and we are continuing to investigate cases of COVID,” Arwady wrote on Twitter today. “There have been no unexpected findings at this point and NO evidence at this point of ‘super-spreader’ event or substantial impact to Chicago’s COVID-19 epidemiology.” Lollapalooza required attendees to either...
Over the past year, Dave Grohl has been one of the busiest people in all of music. We can list the many, many, many, many things he’s done, including the new Foo Fighters album and tour, but what’s the fun in that? One project that little has emerged from (until now) has been anything to do with his upcoming memoir, The Storyteller: Tales of Life and Music. Out in October, it takes the concept of what he was sharing on his Instagram account, Dave’s True Stories, and brings those memories to a wider scope. Today, Grohl shared an excerpt from the book, that pays tribute to his cousin Tracey. Here, he describes Tracey, who he calls his “cousin,” but is the daughter of Grohl’s mother’s longtime friend rather than a blood relative. He gets into it by describing the nature of how they met and wo...
There may be strength in numbers, but on the Season 37 premiere of The Challenge: Spies, Lies and Allies, the game’s most seasoned players proved that — even while operating from a deficit — they still know how to run the game. But could one newbie’s standout performance in The Lair inspire the rest of the rookies to get their acts together and take control of the competition series’ latest installment? On the Spies premiere, 17 international players — most of whom were new to the game — raced through an obstacle course to secure the American partner of their choice. Duos would then sprint to a finish line to cement their new teams and, for the second season in a row, Aneesa was the victor on Opening Day. “Surprise, surprise — the old bitch won,” she said as she celebrated alongside her ne...
Jade Bird didn’t want to make a country album. The English-born, Austin-based singer-songwriter known for her big voice and strummy pop-Americana songs wanted to follow up her 2019 self-titled project with a collection that felt true to how she’d evolved on tour. She also wanted to preserve her roots. “I’m a British girl,” Bird tells MTV News. “I’m into country, but I didn’t think that the songs I was writing were entirely country.” What happened next challenged that notion. At the legendary RCA Studios in Nashville, she booked time with producer Dave Cobb, best known for his Grammy-winning work with Chris Stapleton and Brandi Carlile, as well as on the A Star Is Born soundtrack. All things aligned for, yes, a country alb...
The Weeknd revealed on the latest episode of his Apple Music 1 radio show Memento Mori that his next album is almost finished. “Just doing some final tweaks, some mixing notes, additional vocals,” he said on-air. The project will usher in a new era for the musician following the release of last year’s double platinum LP After Hours. On the show, The Weeknd shared a curated mix “that showcases tracks inspiring the new Dawn era.” Two songs off of Britney Spears’ 2003 album In The Zone made an appearance: “Everytime” and the iconic “Toxic.” Other artists featured on the mix include Kanye West, Kid Cudi, Nas and Tyler, the Creator. In a cover story for September’s GQ, The Weeknd described the forthcoming album as “a project packed with party records” and compared it sonica...
Machine Gun Kelly has fully made the pivot from rapper to rocker. On the heels of being nominated (again) in the Best Alternative category at MTV’s VMAs for his video for “my ex’s best friend,” MGK revealed his Cole Bennett-directed video for “papercuts,” the first song off his new album born with horns, which seems him again team up with Blink-182’s Travis Barker. The song really embraces the rock he went for on his previous album, Tickets to My Downfall, except it’s more of a bigger, moody, mid-’90s alt vibe. In the clip, which you can see below, a bald MGK hops on a bike straight out of Mad Max and glides through Beverly Hills before ending up on Hollywood Blvd. Also, he manages to perform the song with Barker and his now-trademark (albeit oversized) pink guita...
Lil Nas X just keeps getting bigger and better. The trailblazing artist is now the most-streamed male rapper on Spotify with 52,318,623 monthly listeners. With Lil Nas X’s highly anticipated album Montero coming soon, the artist has already released a couple of songs and accompanying music videos that have garnered waves of acclaim. Adding on to the song’s success is the breaking out of prison-inspired music video, which has amassed over 73 million views on YouTube in just two weeks. [embed...
