It’s a strange ride in the fast lane, a metaphor for the trappings of fame, as Kelly comes in for some punishment and parties with an assortment of colorful freaks, clowns and what appears to be a Klingon. The pop-punk number is lifted from MGK’s forthcoming sixth studio album, Born With Horns, on which Travis Barker returns as executive producer. It’s the followup to Tickets To My Downfall, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 last October, for MGK’s first leader. A sold-out tour in support of Downfall is scheduled to kick off Sept. 9 in Minneapolis, MN. There’s no release date yet for Born With Horns. Watch the music video for “Papercuts” below. The pair leave some two months after the launch of an independent investigation into the Sydney-based company’s workplace culture, a development broken by The Sydney Morning Herald’s Nathanael Cooper. As previously reported, Sony Music veteran Denis Handlin left in June, after more than 51 years with the company, and 36 years the helm of the domestic business. “It is time for a change in leadership,” wrote Sony Music Entertainment CEO Rob Stringer in a memo to staff at the time. “And I will be making further announcements in terms of the new direction of our business in Australia and New Zealand in due course.” It remains unclear who is guiding the company at present, or how Sony Music is progressing with the recruitment process for a new leader. A spokesperson declined to comment further....
The first track, which was released Thursday (Aug. 12), is “Can’t Let Go,” originally recorded by Lucinda Williams. Like the other songs on the album, the swampy, surf-influenced “Can’t Let Go” features a driving beat. “We wanted it to move,” Krauss said of the album in a statement. “We brought other people in, other personalities within the band, and coming back together again in the studio brought a new intimacy to the harmonies.” Added Plant: “You hear something and you go, ‘Man, listen to that song, we got to sing that song!’ It’s a vacation, really — the perfect place to go that you least expected to find.” A follow-up was expected long before now with Plant, Krauss and Burnett returning to the studio shortly after the release of the original, but that project was scrapped. Ahead of the release of Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Tom Hardy sat down with Esquire UK to discuss the film, the future of Venom and the potential of the Spider-Man crossover. When asked how he feels about the chances of Eddie Brock meeting Peter Parker, Hardy said, “I would be remiss if I wasn’t trying to steer any kind of connectivity.” “I wouldn’t be doing the job if I wasn’t awake and open to any opportunity or eventuality or be excited by that. Obviously, that’s a large canyon to leap, to be bridged by one person alone, and it would take a much higher level of diplomacy and intelligence, sitting down and talking, to take on an arena such as that.” Going on to express his excitement for a project with both Venom and Spider-Man, “Should both sides be willing, and it be beneficial ...
