Originally announced back in December of 2020, Sony Pictures Entertainment and AT&T have announced that Sony‘s Funimation Global Group has officially acquired Crunchyroll from AT&T. Funimation’s purchase of the leading anime streaming platform cost $1.175 billion USD and was paid in cash at closing. Although it is unclear of how Funimation and Crunchyroll will merge, AT&T is expected to use proceeds from the sale for its debt reduction efforts. Four Tet, real name Kieran Hebden, is taking Domino Recording Company to court due to a royalties dispute in relation to streaming. According to reports, the IDM artist is “seeking damages of up to £70,000 plus costs over the claim for historical streaming and download royalties, as well as a legal judgement on the 50% rate,” the latter of which pertains to the royalties rate. As TMZ reports, lawyers for the singer are arguing that herpes doesn’t meet the definition of a sexually transmitted infection as laid out by the New York State Department of Health, and therefore charges should be dropped. It’s hard to know how seriously a judge would take this argument. He’s been charged under N.Y. Pub. With Japan’s famed Fuji Rock Festival set to take place later this August, organizers are sending out COVID-19 testing kits to attendees as a precaution. According to reports, organizers will deliver free antigen testing kits to any ticket holder who requests for one, despite it not being a pre-requisite for entrance to the festival.
