Dennis “Dee Tee” Thomas, a founding member and longtime saxophonist of Kool & the Gang, has died at the age of 70. According to a lengthy obituary published on the group’s social media, Thomas passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, August 7th. Thomas appeared on every one of Kool & the Gang’s albums, playing alto saxophone, flute, and percussion. He was also the “master of ceremonies” at the group’s concerts. Advertisement Related Video Thomas first met Ronald Bell and Robert “Kool” Bell in high school, and together they began playing music with several other friends including Spike Mickens, Ricky Westfield, George Brown, and Charles Smith. After initially calling themselves the Jazziacs, the group eventually settled on the name “Kool & the Gang.” Over the proceeding ...
Don’t stop us now… from getting our vaccines. As the Delta variant of the coronavirus spreads through the world, some musicians and venues are scrambling to keep the once-promised return of live music a reality, with artists like Queen’s Brian May urging fans to get their doses by all possible means. In light of some concerts requiring a proof of vaccination for entry, Eric Clapton made his anti-vax stance widely known, saying he’ll refuse to play shows where a “discriminated” (a.k.a. safely vaccinated) audience is present. May, on the other hand, is fervently pro-vax. In a recent interview with The Independent, the guitarist went so far as to deem anti-vaxxers “fruitcakes” — even the fellow musicians he admires most. “I love Eric Clapton, he’s my hero, but he has very different views from...
Bruce Springsteen may have been born to run, but his daughter Jessica Springsteen was born to jump. The 29-year-old made her Olympic debut in Tokyo, and on Saturday she and her teammates Laura Kraut and McLain Ward took home the silver medal in team equestrian jumping. Jessica told CNN that she called her family after the “wild” experience. “I FaceTimed them really quick. They were all screaming, I don’t think we understood anything,” she said. “Just saw their team USA gear; there was just lots of shouting. I couldn’t make a lot out but I know that they’re so excited.” Since this was her first time competing in the Olympic games, Jessica Springsteen admitted to feeling some nerves. “You definitely start to get the jitters,” she said. “But it was also super exciting. My horse [Don...
Dennis Thomas has died at the age of 70. A representative for Kool & the Gang confirmed the news, stating that Thomas (known as Dee Tee) “passed away peacefully in his sleep” on Saturday morning. No cause of death has been revealed. “An original member of Kool & the Gang, Dennis was known as the quintessential cool cat in the group, loved for his hip clothes and hats, and his laid-back demeanor,” the statement reads. “A huge personality while also an extremely private person, Dennis was the alto saxophone player, flutist, percussionist as well as master of ceremonies at the band’s shows.” Dee Tee’s final performance was just last month, when Kool & the Gang played a Fourth of July show at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. He is survived by his wife Phynjuar Saunders Thomas and...
Brian May considers Eric Clapton one of his “heroes,” but that doesn’t mean he’s okay with anti-vaxxers. During an interview with The Independent, the Queen guitarist labelled anti-vax rock stars “fruitcakes,” including Clapton, Verve’s Richard Ashcroft and Stone Roses’ Ian Brown, who all have said they won’t play shows that require “COVID passports” to gain admission. “I love Eric Clapton, he’s my hero, but he has very different views from me in many ways,” May said. “He’s a person who thinks it’s OK to shoot animals for fun, so we have our disagreements, but I would never stop respecting the man.” “Anti-vax people, I’m sorry, I think they’re fruitcakes,” he added. “There’s plenty of evidence to show that vaccination helps. On the whole they’ve been very safe. There’s always going to...

Take a look at the photo below. That is a screenshot I did on YouTube of the music video of Simi‘s successful song, “Duduke”. She released the song in April 2020, just before lockdown in May, at the heart of the pandemic. By far, this song was a hit! And as at today, it has grossed over 43 million views on YouTube alone! It was a viral sensation! I loved the song. Many folks loved it. She made good money from YouTube. But I want you to take another look at the photo. Take a look at the part I circled “red.” Did you notice something? That is the number of people who gave the song a “thumbs down,” more or less like a disapproval. 11,000 people gave it a thumbs down! 11,000 ke! But one would wonder why would anyone give such a lovely song a thumbs down. How can? But that tells you something a...
Known for his fresh take on live electronic music, San Holo recently shared a short cover that both takes his fans to their happy place and pays homage to the dance music stars before him. Across his social media pages, he shared an acoustic cover of Alice Deejay‘s 1999 classic, “Better Off Alone.” Mixing together clips of himself playing guitar, bass, and singing the iconic vocals, Holo put together a short-but-sweet cover of the track. Trading the signature 90s synth and vocal effects for chilled-out live instruments and soft, endearing vocals, the final product is more appropriate for a quiet night in with a loved one, rather than a warehouse party. Seconds after posting, fans already began to beg for a cover of the entire song for them to repeat endlessly. At the...

The release of Athena‘s debut single “Eternal” alongside Grammy-nominated duo SMLE marks another seminal moment for the connection between dance music and gaming. One of the foremost streamers of Rocket League and a member of the prominent esports organization Team Envy, Athena described the situation as “unreal” in an exclusive EDM.com text message interview between herself and SMLE. Athena recapped her experience previewing the new single for her fans on stream, and having her expectations blown away by the reaction. “They’re all freaking out going crazy,” she said. “Didn’t expect it at all.” The artists also react to seeing their post-apocalyptic, Mad Max-inspired makeovers in the new official music video for ...
This week, Madeon returned to where he first began planting roots in LA with a surprise performance at the Roxy Theater. The performance, targeted towards his “most enthusiastic supporters,” was one that fans surely won’t forget. Madeon delivered an incredible DJ set that spanned music from Daft Punk to Justice and everything in between. Porter Robinson made a special appearance during the performance of “Shelter,” their hit collaboration which spawned a tour all on its own back in 2016. During his appearance, Robinson even joined Madeon for an onstage launchpad performance, a hallmark of the earliest days in Madeon’s career. “I want to point out what a cool, hyper energetic and considerate crowd this was,” Madeon tweeted. “E...
Marvel has officially joined the NFT sphere with five different Spider-Man “collectibles.” The entertainment juggernaut announced its move into NFTs back in June, promising digital comic books, “statues” like the ones pictured above and more, all available via the VeVe digital marketplace. Spidey’s NFTs range from “common,” which will be made available to 32,000 buyers to an animated “secret-rare” that’s only been produced in an edition of 1,000. Three of Spider-Man’s five NFTs are pictured above: “Hangin’ Out,” which shows him dangling from a strand of his web while flashing a peace sign, “Jump Into Action,” which shows him mid-web swing and “The Amazing Spider-Man,” a classic action stance. Though Spidey is leading things off, there will be plenty of further Marvel NFT content over the c...
