By Grant Sharples The image on Kississippi’s new album cover is striking: a chewed-up piece of pink bubblegum in an engagement-ring box. It’s the epitome of songwriter Zoe Renyolds’s music, which brims with neon overtones and dismal subtexts, and the bubblegum is a visual representation of the overt pop direction she took with this record. The Philadelphia-based artist says the artwork for Mood Ring, out today (August 6), merges kitsch and dark themes as the music itself speaks to the push and pull of relationships and love at large. “It reminded me of Helga Pataki from Hey Arnold!,” Reynolds tells MTV News of the symbolic cover. “It just gave me this crushy vibe of swapping gum with your crush or something like that. I just thought it was really cute for those reasons, but it also has a d...
The Weeknd’s new song will really take your breath away. A bright new era has finally dawned, as the singer born Abel Tesfaye just dropped “Take My Breath” today (August 6), which brings a sense of retro ‘70s and ‘80s disco dance-pop club vibes. A music video (which provides caution with an epilepsy warning) has also been released to accompany the single. The video introduces Tesfaye, donning a long leather jacket and rose-tinted shades, walking toward the dawning sun. He enters a concrete tunnel to a club, where he sees people dancing and getting high on oxygen under flashing lights that accompany the pulsing synths of the song. A woman decked in leather, silver jewelry, and chains strides up to him with interest, and they dance suggestively together on the floor. “Take my breath away / A...
Baby Queen can’t shake the ghost of a past relationship in her retro and romantic video for “Dover Beach,” and honestly, when the heartbreak inspires a bop this good, I’m not sure I want her to. From incompatible star signs to imaginary conversations, the London-based pop singer crams every detail of her haunted being into candid and diaristic lyrics, though her delivery sounds like a dreamy stream of consciousness. “I swear I’m gonna lose it / If I keep playing your music / But what else is there to do?” she wonders before admitting, “Everywhere I look, I just see you.” With a synthy production and a triumphant chorus, it’s no surprise the track is just as all-encompassing as the ex who inspired it. —Carson Mlnarik You Deserve to Make Money Even When you are looking for Dates Online. Each track from The Red EP will be remixed by Zhu later this month for The Blue EP, before appearing on the P25 Music compilation album this fall. The record, which will be released by Cap...

George Harrison released his third solo project, the expansive triple-LP All Things Must Pass, in November 1970. And its songs — like “My Sweet Lord,” “Wah-Wah,” “Isn’t It a Pity,” “Behind That Locked Door,” and “Beware of Darkness” — solidified the former Beatle’s signature balance of earthly and divine, from his soulful slide-guitar to the searching spirituality of his lyrics. To celebrate the album’s “50th” anniversary reissue — including the massive Uber Deluxe Edition, complete with gnome replicas — SPIN spoke to three famous Harrison fans about his early masterpiece. Below, Jim James (My Morning Jacket), Wayne Coyne (The Flaming Lips) and Angel Olsen go deep on the influence and legacy of All Things Must Pass — and Harrison himself.
