FINNEAS’ debut album is finally on its way. The eight-time Grammy winner has officially announced the release date for his first full-length studio effort, Optimist, and dropped lead single “A Concert Six Months From Now” in the process. As if that weren’t enough, he’s also announced a headlining tour of North America. Following the singer-songwriter’s signing to Interscope Records — the same label home as his sister Billie Eilish — Optimist is set to be unveiled October 15th. The album’s hopeful title comes from the lyrics of its lead single, which finds the 23-year-old desperately attempting to win back a lost love. “Your favorite band is back on the road/ And this fall they’re playin’ the Hollywood Bowl/ I’ve already purchased two seats for their show/ I guess I’m an optimist/ 2011, you...
For several years now, Aaliyah’s uncle Barry Hankerson has promised that the late R&B pop star’s music would finally be uploaded to streaming services. This time, it’s actually going to happen. In an interview with Billboard, Hankerson revealed that all of Aaliyah’s music will be available on Spotify, Apple Music, and the like starting on August 20th. Technically, fans have had access to Aaliyah’s 1994 debut album Age Ain’t Nothing But a Number and a few early singles for a while now. But the majority of her catalog, including 1996’s One in a Million and 2001’s self-titled album, have been unavailable to stream this whole time. According to Hankerson, who owned the original Blackground Records and the majority of Aaliyah’s masters aside from her debut LP, that decision was in accordanc...

Taylor Swift’s upcoming re-release of Red will boast several bonus tracks, including a collaboration with Phoebe Bridgers and a 10-minute version of “All Too Well.” Swift coyly revealed the bonus cuts via a teaser video featuring jumbled song titles. Their actual titles and featured collaborators were then confirmed by the album’s pre-save website. Across 10 songs there are collaborations with Bridgers (“Nothing New”), Chris Stapleton (“I Bet You Thing About Me”), and Ed Sheeran (“Run”). There’s also a 10-minute version of “All Too Well” and her own her solo recordings of the 2016 Little Big Town single “Better Man” and 2018 Sugarland single “Babe.” See the full tracklist below. “I live my way/ God knows how many times I tried/ I came from where very few thrive/ Forgive me the times that I sinned, amen/ Things are now my way,” says part of the chorus. The dramatic music video, helmed by directors Fernando Lugo and Cristian Aguilar, shows both artists performing at an abandoned warehouse as they battle with a group of “haters” and “envious” people dressed in all black. (Watch it exclusively below.) The “A Mi Manera” remix comes four months after the original track dropped. Ozuna first teased the collaboration at the end of July, posting a video of himself jamming to the remix on his yacht. “Whenever you say,” he told fans in the caption. Metallica urged fans to “keep an open mind for a different view” on “Nothing Else Matters,” and in return, they gave the hard rockers 1 billion views on the music video. The six-minute-plus visual is the sixth entry in YouTube’s Billion Views Club from the ’90s, following Guns N’ Roses’ “November Rain,” Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” The Cranberries’ “Zombie,” Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You,” and 4 Non Blondes’ “What’s Up.” “Nothing Else Matters” is from the band’s self-titled 1991 album (better known as The Black Album), and the song peaked at No. 11 on Billboard‘s Mainstream Rock Airplay...
“There are tens of thousands of tracks that are uploaded every day to streaming services around the world,” said Cooper. A label such as Warner, he said, helps artists “separate their music and their careers from literally all of this noise.” As for Warner’s finances, looking at trailing 12-month revenue, which removes the effect of any one quarter, Warner improved by 13.2%. Physical sales returned to normalcy, climbing from $51 million in a pandemic-stricken quarter a year earlier to $130 million; the quarter included Record Store Day on June 12, which led to record one-week vinyl sales in the U.S., according to MRC Data (next quarter’s earnings will benefit from the July 22 Record Store Day, the second-highest ever). Growth in streaming revenue was adequate at 22.5% for recorded mu...

Last month, TIMES OF GRACE, featuring Adam Dutkiewicz and Jesse Leach of KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, released its long-awaited second album, “Songs Of Loss And Separation”, via the band’s own imprint label, Wicked Good Records, distributed by ADA Worldwide. Asked in a new interview with Australia’s Maniacs what led to the decision to go the independent route, Leach said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “A long time of negotiating and just kind of weighing where we are with the band and where we are in this world right now. We have KILLSWITCH, we have our career, and with TIMES OF GRACE, it just felt like, ‘Let’s keep this free.’ There’s no guarantees what’s gonna happen with it. We don’t wanna owe a record label a bunch of money...
In a new interview with Brazil’s Wikimetal, legendary bassist/vocalist Glenn Hughes (DEEP PURPLE, BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION) discussed the rapid popularization of the Internet technology and how it changed the way people listen to music and communicate with each other. “Back in the days, before the Internet, you didn’t get to connect with anyone,” he said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET). “It was run by record executives; some of ’em didn’t have a clue what they were doing. Most record executives don’t understand music at all; it’s all business. And that’s the problem I’ve got with a lot of music today — it’s all about business and it’s all about money, throwing money into something that maybe isn’t fanta...
SEPULTURA frontman Derrick Green spoke to El Cuartel Del Metal about what the post-pandemic return to the live stage might look like. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “Well, it’s already coming back pretty quickly. I think people are very anxious for live shows. I just watched Lollapalooza live, which was taking place in Chicago, and it was a very crowded show. And I just hope everyone was as safe as possible. “It’s difficult times,” he continued. “It’s difficult to be that band that’s gonna be the first to play after a pandemic or when a pandemic is still kind of going on. And depending on where you are, people are looking at it in different ways. People are feeling the pandemic differently as well. There’s some people tha...
SHINEDOWN drummer Barry Kerch has tested positive for the novel coronavirus after being vaccinated. The 44-year-old musician, who lives in Jacksonville, Florida, revealed his positive diagnosis in a video message earlier today. He stated in the clip (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “In the 20 years of SHINEDOWN, I have never missed a show — until now. I regret to say that I, unfortunately, during rehearsals, contracted COVID. And before you get all crazy on me, I got fully vaxxed in April. I followed all the rules — wore masks, washed my hands, et cetera. Unfortunately, I’m one of those ones that got it even though I was vaxxed. So, unfortunately, I’m still testing positive. I’m quarantined. My health is good, which is good news. I’ve had symptoms, but I&...
