Lollapalooza Announces Indoor Mask Requirements Halfway Through 2021 Festival

The organizers of Lollapalooza, Chicago’s largest music festival, have established new mask requirements halfway through the event’s 2021 edition. A tweet posted on Lollapalooza’s verified Twitter account noted that “masks must be worn in all indoor spaces at Grant Park” starting today, July 31st, regardless of vaccination status. The measures went into effect in accordance with new guidance from the CDC, which requires everyone in the city to wear a mask in public indoor settings to limit the spread of the Delta coronavirus variant. “Based on the latest advice from the Chicago Department of Public Health, Lollapalooza will require masks in any indoor spaces at Grant Park beginning Saturday,” reads a follow-up tweet published by Lollapalo...

Excision Teases Big Announcement Coming In Early August 2021

It’s safe to say Excision is teasing something huge.  Across his social media pages, the Bass Canyon and Lost Lands festival proprietor shared a short video of his logo written in sand. It proceeds to be washed away by the tide before text appears to reveal that an announcement is coming next week. While teasers are far from uncommon in the electronic music world—especially “announcements of announcements” by DJs—the fact that a dedicated website was developed for whatever Excision has in store is certainly buzzworthy. Naturally, seconds after posting the teaser, fans and artists alike began wildly speculating about what’s on the way. Unfortunately for those looking for details on what’s to come, Excision stopped short of sharing any concrete informa...

Duh — Billie Eilish Is the Modern Pop Star With the Biggest Vocabulary

Not only is Billie Eilish one of the most popular songwriters out there today, she might be one of the most logophilic, too. According to a recent study by the experts at WordTips, the 19-year-old pop iconoclast has the biggest vocabulary — in her music, at least — of any contemporary pop artist. Apparently, Eilish’s songs use, on average, 169 unique words out of 1,000. By contrast, Trey Songz and Carly Rae Jepsen are listed at the bottom of the artists studied, with 66 and 69 unique words per 1,000, respectively. When compared with musical legends, Eilish’s word diversity puts her ahead of all-time greats like Hank Williams and Bonnie Raitt, and not far behind the likes of Jim Morrison, Björk, and the list’s top artist, Patti Smith. Some other wordy modern pop stars who made the list incl...

Michael Jackson Estate Eyes Revival After Court Victories

“I was always optimistic,” John Branca, the entertainment attorney who worked with Jackson through many of his biggest triumphs and now serves as co-executor of his estate, told The Associated Press in an interview at his Beverly Hills home. “Michael inspired the planet and his music still does. There was never any doubt about that.” The optimism was warranted. A succession of court decisions came. One accusers’ lawsuit was dismissed in October. The other was tossed out in April. In May, a ruling in the tax case slashed the bill dramatically. The estate suddenly stands nearly clear of a dozen years of disputes. That means Branca expects that in the next 18 months it can finally be taken out of probate court and turned into a trust for Jackson’s three children, who are all now adults. And t...

Ricardo Montaner Returns to Touring in 2022: ‘I’m Incomplete Without the Applauds of My Fans’

“The virtual concerts are incredible. They have an immeasurable scope, phenomenal,” Montaner tells Billboard. “But nothing compares to the energy of seeing an audience face-to-face.” Montaner, behind some of Latin pop’s biggest hits — such as “Tan Enamorados,” “Me Va a Extrañar” and “Dejame Llorar” — announces his 2022 Montaner U.S. Tour exclusively on Billboard today (July 31). Presented by Loud and Live, the tour will kick off on January 21 at Miami’s FTX Arena (formerly American Airlines Arena) and wrap up on February 18 at Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater. The Montaner Tour will also make pit stops in Atlanta, Houston and New York, to name a few cities. “There will be many surprises and spontaneous elements on this tour,” he assures. Most importantly, he will sing all of his ...

Willie Nelson Headlines Texas Protest Rally in Support of Voting Rights

“If you don’t like who’s in there, vote them out,” Nelson sang, inviting the crowd to join him in singing lyrics he’d previously written about taking a stand at the ballot box. “I felt like I needed to be here. It is a history-making event that is so necessary right now,” said Brenda Hanson, 75, of Austin. “I am a descendant of slavery and I am not interested in moving back. I want to see this country go forward. I have lived well over three quarters of a century and I have never seen us go backwards like this before.” Hanson said she is disabled but otherwise would have participated in the nearly 30-mile walk. Instead, she hoped to make a statement with her presence as she sat chanting in support on a bench under a tree. The march began Wednesday and ended Saturday when participants walke...

IRON MAIDEN’s BRUCE DICKINSON: We’ve Been Dying To Tell People About New Album ‘For Ages’

IRON MAIDEN singer Bruce Dickinson says that he and his bandmates have been dying to tell their fans about their upcoming album, “Senjutsu”, “for ages.” Although the follow-up to 2015’s “The Book Of Souls” was recorded back in 2019, MAIDEN didn’t announce the new LP until earlier this month, preceded by the music video for the disc’s first single, “The Writing On The Wall”. Dickinson addressed the long gap between the “Senjutsu”‘s completion and official announcement while recording a video message to promote his upcoming spoken-word tour of the United Kingdom. “So now you know. The big secret is no longer a secret. The album is called ‘Belshazzar’s Feast’,” he said (as transcr...
