Zydeco Musician Chris Ardoin Shot While Performing in Louisiana

The shooting happened in Colfax at Louisiana Mudfest, an ATV and mudding park where the weekend festival was being held, The Advocate reported. Ardoin was slated as the Friday headliner, with Lil Nate and the Zydeco Big Timers scheduled to perform Saturday night. Lil Nate posted on Facebook on Saturday that his group was canceling their performance. The Grant Parish Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that they responded to the park after receiving reports of multiple people shooting into a crowd. They said two people were struck by the gunfire and suffered moderate injuries, including a 14-year-old child. The sheriff’s office said hundreds of vehicles tried to leave at once as people fled in panic. Two people armed with guns were arrested but their identities have not been released an...

Morgan Wallen Makes a Surprise Cameo at Luke Bryan’s Nashville Concert, Performs Pair of Hits

Dressed in a black T-shirt, blue jeans and a backwards baseball cap, Wallen strutted down the catwalk with his acoustic guitar and handed celebratory shots to his fellow musicians before serenading concert-goers. “This is a song about staying true to yourself, and that’s been a really hard thing for me to do lately, but here I am,” Wallen said before performing “More Than My Hometown.” Last week, in his first major interview since being on video caught using the racial slur, Wallen spoke to Good Morning America‘s Michael Strahan, offering an explanation for the incident, which resulted in his music being pulled from radio and streaming, as well as earning him a suspension by his record label and declared ineligible for this year’s ACM Awards. “I was arou...

Don Jazzy is still Don Jazzy

Don Jazzy, who is popularly known to be a producer and an Executive record label owner. His record label “Mavins” has been the best label this year so far. Artists like Rema (Bounce & Soundgasm), Ladipoe (Feeling), Johnny Drille (Bad Dancer), Ayra Starr (Away) and Crayon (Too Correct) are all having a solid year based on his management and production. It is the longevity for me, really, because this is the third era of artists under his management. SUGGESTED: Rema Is Creatively Damned: “Bounce” The first era of the Don Jazzy‘s management was the Mo Hits crew where he managed artists like D’banj, Wande Coal, Dr Sid, D Prince and K Switch. The domination of the Mo Hits crew from the mid 2000s to early 2010s had already stamped his name in Nigeria’s music history. Mo Hits still remains th...

Tisoki Pays Tribute to UK Roots on Debut Album “01953”

After weeks of teasing his debut album, including the release of singles “HOLD ON ME” and “SENSITIVE,” Tisoki has finally unveiled 01953 via Monstercat.  In his latest endeavor, Tisoki has taken a more introspective approach that was inspired by his time in quarantine. Instead of writing earth-shattering, festival-ready tunes, he’s created a thoughtful story that gives fans a taste of his upbringing in Wymondham, UK.  Tisoki’s diverse skill set is on full display throughout 01953. He expertly shifts between moodier, melancholic tracks to hard-hitting bangers, subverting expectations over and over again. His UK roots shine bright on the 10-track LP, as elements of old-school dubstep, grime, and garage are infused within various tracks ...

DCUP Shares Firsthand Success Story Behind Creation of “We No Speak Americano”

Creating an organic number one hit in the modern era has proven to be extremely unlikely, but 10 years ago Yolanda Be Cool and DCUP achieved the feat on a profound scale.  In a new video uploaded by Sol State, a YouTube channel dedicated to revealing production secrets and untold stories from the world’s most impactful producers, DCUP gave his firsthand account of how “We No Speak Americano” went from humble beginnings to mainstream hit. “We were aiming for an underground club track,” DCUP recalls of their studio session. “On the last day one of the two Yolanda guys asked me ‘Is there anything different we can do in the last breakdown?'” That simple question led DCUP to go sample hunting, where he discovered a saxophone sound that w...

During his Friday night performance at Lollapalooza 2021, Marshmello dropped a heavy, unreleased single with Ray Volpe. The new track once again sees the masked dance music star team up with a hard-hitting bass music artist, following recent collaborative efforts with Subtronics, Nitti Gritti, and Carnage, among others. Volpe took to Twitter to share a video of Mello opening his headlining set with the never-before-heard collab. “Take it back to the old school shit,” Mello howls before cutting into a heavyweight bass drop. A little under a minute of the new song is played, offering viewers a small taste of the ground-shaking dubstep tune. At the time of writing, neither artist has divulged a title or release date for the song in question. You can check out the vi...

NGHTMRE Drops Shimmering Remix of ILLENIUM and Matt Maeson’s “Heavenly Side”

Just over two weeks ago ILLENIUM shook the dance music world with the release of his highly anticipated fourth album, Fallen Embers. While that in and of itself was a lot for his fans to process, they’ve now been gifted a high-profile remix from NGHTMRE, who took on ILLENIUM’s collaboration with Matt Maeson, “Heavenly Side.” While ILLENIUM’s original is much more stripped back with a heavy emphasis on guitar and Maeson’s vocals, NGHTMRE’s rendition represents a significant departure. Bright keys welcome listeners in before heavily processed vocals give way to an explosion of colorful, bright synths that fill the air with a euphoric thwack. You can listen to NGHTMRE’s remix of “Heavenly Side” here and listen below. R...

Perry Farrell’s 5 Favorite Lollapalooza Moments

Lollapalooza has defied the old F. Scott Fitzgerald adage from The Last Tycoon that “there are no second acts in American life.” Since 2005, Perry Farrell and partners have hunkered down in Chicago’s Grant Park (for the American version) to bring the once-alternative playground that spit in the face of the mainstream more into the mainstream. Though this year’s fest’s impact is yet to be known, there’s no doubt in the festival’s 30 years (on and off at various points), Farrell has seen it and been through it. So, what better way than to get the best stories from Lollapalooza’s history than from Farrell himself? However, just as we got rolling, the Jane’s Addiction/Porno for Pyros didn’t pull any punches and came out of the gates firing. In fact, he blamed SPIN for him n...
