The thing about comets is that they were initially perceived as disturbances to our earth’s atmosphere; an anomaly, an intrusion. It wasn’t until Edmond Halley predicted the trajectory of a comet, accurately calculating its return, that people started to accept comets as something out of our reach, circling beyond the moon. Halley’s Comet was immortalized. The halfway mark of Billie Eilish’s sophomore album, Happier Than Ever, is a track called “Halley’s Comet.” It’s melancholy and yearning, but it acts as an appropriate connector between the first and second halves of the album — as well as the gap between her first album (the lauded, Grammy history-making When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?) and her latest effort. With this collection, she proves that she was not just a shot in the ...
Rising alt-rocker Des Rocs has announced his debut album, A Real Good Person in a Real Bad Place, which will arrive September 24th via 300 Entertainment. In advance of the LP’s release, the New York-based artist has unleashed the infectious and eclectic single “MMC.” “MMC” takes the listener on a wide-ranging ride of musical genres, with a guitar-heavy intro leading into post-punk verses and a sing-along anthemic chorus. At the 3:10 mark, the tune suddenly shifts into a vaudevillian piano number, with Des Rocs momentarily taking on the role of a throwback crooner. Speaking about the song in a press release, Des Rocs said, “‘MMC’ is about people who are obsessed with being anything but themselves. It’s a roller coaster of a record that was written all at once in this kinda chaotic catharsis...
Questlove took to social media earlier this week to slam DaBaby for his homophobic rant at Rolling Loud Miami, and the rapper has issued a bafflingly ignorant response in return. In his original post, the Roots founder updated the “dream list” he’d previously put together when asked to hypothetically curate a lineup for his own Summer of Soul-inspired festival. The list featured a number of prominent and rising Black artists including Rihanna, Sade, the Isley Brothers, and DaBaby, except now the rapper’s name has been vehemently crossed out in red. “And now I’m updating my list — because it’s 2021 & fuck the bullshit,” he captioned the post, in part. “I’m especially not here for any savagery (if you’re lost: Google the idiocy of the crossed out). I’m not trine be all performative smurf...
Iconic singer, songwriter, guitarist, and ALICE IN CHAINS co-founder Jerry Cantrell returns with the first single, “Atone”, from his new solo album, “Brighten”. Watch the official music video for the track below. Right from the start, the album opener’s riff rolls like a runaway freight train underscored by cinematic twang. As the momentum builds, he intones the hummable hook before a psychedelic break, and a hard-hitting hook evocative of the album’s incendiary spirit. The video is a perfect accompaniment to the song as it is a compilation of black-and-white footage of Jerry playing the song in outdoor locations such as Joshua Tree, the Salton Sea, Phoenix, and Los Angeles. It was creatively directed as a group effort by Jerry; photographer/musician Jim...
The official music video for the song “Down But Never Out” from Dee Snider can be seen below. The track is taken from the TWISTED SISTER frontman’s fifth solo album, “Leave A Scar”, which is being released today (Friday, July 30) via Napalm Records. Snider says about “Down But Never Out”: “I pride myself on the fact that throughout the decades, my music has always tried to not only push back against all oppressors (in this case COVID-19), but also lift people up and encourage them to fight back. ‘Down But Never Out’ is a perfect example of this ethos.” Once again produced by HATEBREED frontman Jamey Jasta with co-production, mixing and mastering by drummer Nick Bellmore, “Leave A Scar” sees Dee continuing in the ...
British extreme metallers CRADLE OF FILTH will release their 13th studio album, “Existence Is Futile”, on October 22. Pieced together in isolation, at Grindstone Studios in Suffolk with studio guru Scott Atkins (DEVILMENT, BENEDICTION, VADER), the band’s latest chef-d’oeuvre is a pitch-black, perverse and at times absurdly brutal and extreme masterpiece following a truly nihilistic concept: “The album is about existentialism, existential dread and fear of the unknown,” frontman Dani Filth explains. “The concept wasn’t created by the pandemic. We’d written it long before that began, but the pandemic is the tip of the cotton-bud as far as the way the world is headed, you know? I guess the title, ‘Existence Is Futile’, does sou...

Singer Buju is catching a flak for some of his old tweets where he criticised older colleagues and had opinionated views about their music. The singer was dragged yesterday by Nigerian twitter users after people stumbled on his old tweets where he bashed some colleagues like Wizkid, Davido, Yemi Alade, Korede Bello, Mr Eazi etc. Buju addressed some of his colleagues with a strong language as he had a few things to say about their music. Those tweets were out on display by fans of these artistes he bashed. With these tweets out, Buju has owned up to the tweets and tendered apologies. He explains that during that time he wasn’t making music so it was easier to be a critique and say all that. See his apology below. Galantis and Don Diablo have joined forces for their first-ever collab, a scintillating electronic jam called “Tears For Later.” Released by way of Diablo’s HEXAGON imprint, the track is a bit of a departure for both Galantis and Diablo in terms of its composition. The downtempo arrangement harkens back to the latter’s summer 2016 hit “What We Started” (with Steve Aoki and Lush & Simon), eschewing his euphoric future house style for a woozier feel at a head-bopping 95 BPM. However, its sound design is signature of both of the dance music superstar acts. The distinct, saccharine vocal style of Galantis is an ideal fit for the bubbly synths and fluttering arpeggios of Diablo. You can listen to “Tears For Later”...
Returning with yet another sensational single, GT_Ofice has teamed up with the award-winning artist Jantine for their new tune “Pieces,” out now on Caine Records. Known for delivering electro-pop productions, GT_Ofice’s sixth offering of the year follows suit. “Pieces” kicks off with an inviting house beat, pulling listeners in with entrancing murmurs throughout the introduction. With romantic accents textured in the background, Jantine’s voice takes focus. Her lyricism expresses the emotional struggle of learning to love again, wondering if she can count on her partner when times get tough. “When you lose all faith in love, it only takes one person to completely change your mind,” the artists explained in a joint statement. ...
The path to Adventure Club‘s sophomore album is clearer than ever after the duo dropped one of its singles, a must-listen melodic dubstep track called “Safe With Me.” Produced alongside Soar, “Safe With Me” is nothing short of breathtaking. Luma provides a gripping topline, brilliantly singing about finding solace in the arms of another while the world crumbles—a concept we can all relate to after the hellscape of a year that was 2020. Her vocals serenade hypnotic production in the verse, which builds and eventually culminates in a classic Adventure Club drop. The song is far from cookie-cutter, and its depth deepens as the arrangement glides along. The second drop is a masterclass in musical composition, thanks to the clever sync...
