With a huge performance comes huge surprises. During his momentous Red Rocks show earlier this week, melodic bass superstar Seven Lions showcased a massive, brand new collaboration with Lights. Thankfully, a fan was able to capture the surreal moment in a clip later shared by a fan account dedicated to the producer’s Ophelia Records imprint. The majority of the recording comprises Lights’ scintillating vocals, but viewers are also able to hear a section of a soaring melodic dubstep drop towards the end. Following widespread speculation about who the vocalist was, Lights eventually chimed in with a smoking gun of a tweet containing a series of “eyes” emojis. At the time of this article’s publication, the track has no known name or release date. We’ll keep...
Grab your hoodie and badge: The trailer for the eighth and final season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine is here. NBC’s beloved police sitcom returns August 12th, and if this preview is any indication, it’s going to be a pretty big “wh-oop.” The last season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine picks up right where we left off back in Season 7. Detective Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) and his wife, Sargent Amy Santiago (Melissa Fumero), are readjusting to their day-to-day duties at the NYPD’s 99th precinct after welcoming their first child together, Mac. Series regulars Andre Braugher, Terry Crews, Joe Lo Truglio, Stephanie Beatriz, Joel McKinnon Miller, and Dirk Blocker are also returning for “one last ride.” What’s more, the trailer teases the return of fan-favorite recurring characters like Chelsea Peretti’s Gina Li...
Meet Me @ the Altar dropped their latest single, “Brighter Days (Are Before Us).” In the music video for the sunny track, the all-female pop-punk outfit run through the song inside an abandoned airplane decked out with flowers, foliage and all kinds of faux flora. “I always thought there was a world coming after me/ Stuck with the short end of the stick/ I went ahead and just believed that I could never be/ A person with a purpose/ But brighter days are before us,” frontwoman Edith Johnson sings over Téa Campbell’s crunchy guitar and Ada Juarez on drums. “‘Brighter Days (Are Before Us)’ is one of the ups in life where things are starting to shape up,” the trio shared in a statement. “If our upcoming EP Model Citizen was a movie, ‘Brighter Days’ would be the scene where everything in life i...
Day 1 of Lollapalooza 2021 was a reminder that if we ever get the COVID-19 crisis under control, a climate crisis is lurking. But the oppressive heat of Thursday gave way to a wonderfully temperate Friday, as Chicago’s not-so-secret luxury, the lake effect, reasserted its dominance. Like Paris in springtime or New York in the fall, summertime Chi remains one of the great urban wonders of the world. The perfectly cool weather found its complement in an even cooler collection of beats. The discriminating ear of Tyler, the Creator led to a staggeringly fun set, Mick Jenkins made a powerful statement, while Kenny Mason, AG Club, and Jack Harlow explored different avenues of the same genre. Check out some of the highlights from a great day for hip-hop below. — Wren Grav...
New York Supreme Court Justice Barry Ostrager sides with Dylan. “For the reasons explained here, the Court determines that the plain meaning of the 1975 Agreement is that the Dylan Defendants owned all copyrights to the Compositions, as well as the absolute right to sell the Compositions and all associated rights, subject only to plaintiffs’ right to receive the compensation specified in the 1975 Agreement, which does not include any portion of the proceeds from Dylan’s sale of his own rights to the Universal Defendants,” he writes. Ostrager looks at how Levy attempted to establish joint authorship in the compositions, including witnesses to the relationship between the songwriters and affidavits from experts, but ultimately the judge sees the contract as unambiguous and precluding such a ...

New York-based Primary Wave has been acquiring expectancy interests in the Prince estate piecemeal for the last 17 months from three of his six heirs. However, the situation is complicated because the estate remains in probate administered through Comerica Bank & Trust and none of the heirs have received any distribution of assets. Sources say the probate issues could be resolved as early as the end of the year. According to documents filed July 20 in Minnesota’s Carver County district court, in March 2020 “the protocols” surrounding the estate were amended after Primary Wave purchased a portion of Prince sibling Tyka Nelson’s expectancy interest. Subsequently, an April 2021 order confirmed Primary Wave’s acquisition of 100% of the expectancy interest of Nelson’s late half brothe...
The song’s verses remember those “best four years” — little Ronan’s bare feet, his laugh, his blue eyes, his dancing before bedtime, his race cars and plastic dinosaurs on the kitchen floor — and the unimaginable: “Flowers pile up in the worst way, no one knows what to say/ About a beautiful boy who died.” Ronan died from neuroblastoma in 2011. It was a one-off record, available only on iTunes at the time, and Swift mostly made it through an (understandably emotional) televised performance of it for 2012’s Stand Up to Cancer telethon, with Ronan’s sweet face behind her on the stage. Swift recently emailed Maya Thompson to ask her how she would feel about their song finding a home on the updated version of Red, which she previously...
Annapurna Interactive and developers BlueTwelve Studio have shared the first gameplay trailer for their upcoming cat simulator, Stray. In Stray, players will live as an injured cat who gets separated from its family and ends up in a “mysterious and forgotten” city. As they figure out the new and unwelcoming environment, players must use the physical skills of the cat to solve puzzles. The cat will also be joined by a drone that goes by the name B-12, who will allow players/the cat to talk to the city’s residents, who also happens to be robots, as well as interact with items around them. Players will also have the chance to control the protagonist and do many feline-related things, including scratching furniture and rubbing the legs of the robot residents. “As we don’t want to compromi...
In a brand new interview with Rocking With Jam Man, former JUDAS PRIEST and ICED EARTH singer Tim “Ripper” Owens confirmed that he has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. “I got my vaccination, and I’m ready to rock the world now,” he said. Asked if he is leery about performing with someone or touring with another band that hasn’t gotten the shot yet, Owens replied: “No. You can do what you want. I think it’s your prerogative. It doesn’t mean that they’re not gonna get COVID [even if they’re vaccinated]… An Olympic athlete, another one, just went down with COVID, and he was vaccinated. “Listen, you’re supposed to stay safer with it, but I’m not gonna treat anybody different that doesn’t get it,...
STYX graces the cover of issue 27 of Rock Candy magazine in a 16-page extravaganza featuring interviews with all six members of the legendary band. And guitarist and vocalist Tommy Shaw doesn’t pull any punches when addressing the thorny issue of the lack of recognition the multi-million selling band has received from the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. Despite being one of the most commercially successful acts of the ’70s and ’80s, thanks to hits such as “Come Sail Away”, “Babe” and “The Best Of Times”, STYX remains unheralded by the Cleveland institution. “Well we’d love to be in it,” admits Shaw in an exclusive interview with Rock Candy writer Malcolm Dome. “But I certainly don’t lose any sleep over it. To b...
