In Demand: Why Justin Timberlake, Coldplay and More Call Federico Vindver For Cutting-Edge Production

The alienation he felt from his classmates during the day, however, was balanced somewhat by the acceptance he found playing nighttime gigs at Black churches and Latin clubs — gigs through which he learned to use technology to live-produce his one-man act (he had competed one year of computer science school back in Argentina when a hand injury prevented him from playing piano). “One day,” he says, “I realized I have more fun doing this than actually playing jazz.” Right after graduation, he signed on as a keyboardist and producer for Lauryn Hill and continued building up his portfolio with projects for Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin, Pitbull, Wisin, Marc Anthony, Leona Lewis and Joss Stone. Now, when artists like Kanye West, Mariah Carey and Nick Jonas “want to ge...

The Princess Diaries Soundtrack Captured Teen Pop’s Golden Age

By Yasmine Shemesh A couple years ago, after a cozy movie night at home, the former teen pop singer Myra’s daughter grabbed her mother’s hands. They had just finished watching The Princess Diaries, which ends with Myra’s glittering 2001 single, “Miracles Happen (When You Believe),” playing in a ballroom as protagonist Amelia Mignonette Thermopolis Renaldi spins around in joy after formally accepting her role as princess of Genovia. “Mom,” Myra’s daughter said, the singer recalled to MTV News. “Are you really going to go on the rest of your life not doing what you love?” The song’s themes of hope and perseverance had moved her to tell Myra, who had stepped away from performing years earlier to raise her child and go to college, to pursue her singing career again. That’s the power of the fil...

Lady Gaga Is Back In Center Frame In Gorgeous House Of Gucci Poster

Lady Gaga is returning to the screen in a new true crime film. She will appear in Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci, starring as the notorious Patrizia Reggiani, who was convicted of killing her ex-husband Maurizio Gucci in an infamous court trial back in 1998. And on Thursday (July 29), she gave a sneak peek at the upcoming production. The “Rain on Me” singer took to Instagram to share a promotional poster for the movie in which she dons pearly white jewelry and a net veil partially covering her face. As Reggiani, she presents herself like a beautiful black widow in the aftermath of her husband’s death. Gaga captioned the post with one word: “Stasera.” Stasera can be translated from Italian to English as “this evening.” Is this a hint that there will be a trailer for House of Gucc...

KDrew Revives Halsey’s “Graveyard” With Haunting Future Bass Remix: Listen

It’s no secret that Halsey‘s music is among the most popular for dance music producers to rework. But out of all the skeletons in the vast graveyard of remix attempts over the years, very few have proved ageless. That brings us to yesterday, when renowned electronic music producer KDrew brought Halsey’s 2019 single “Graveyard” back from the dead to produce a haunting remix. Processing the acoustic plucks of the original with a warm fuzz, he repurposes the track into an aching indie dance number that moonlights as a soaring future bass jam. The drops here flutter with a euphoric punch, as trembling vocal chops float atop bubbly, frenetic chords. KDrew manages to manipulate Halsey’s vocals in a markedly unique way, lacing them with a plethora of layers—and...

Here’s That Creepy Daft Punk-Breaking Bad Deepfake You Ordered

Daft Punk have been reincarnated as Walter White and Jesse Pinkman. Because, well, 2021. In the joyless absence of both Daft Punk and Breaking Bad, someone decided to create a deepfake marrying the two in a video as creepy as it is magnificent. For those unfamiliar with the scourge of deepfakes, they are fake bits of media that leverage artificial intelligence and machine learning to replace a person in an image or video with the likeness of another. Designed for deception, deepfakes are dangerous and have largely been developed for the purposes of political hoaxes, celebrity porn videos, and fake news.  However, this particular deepfake is a treat. Or nightmare fuel, depending on your sense of humor. It depicts the show’s legendary protagonists bop...
