After once again pump-faking on the release of his Donda album (with no repercussions?), Yeezy has decided to hunker down in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta to finish the project, and recently showed off his living situation. First, let us reiterate that Kanye West is in Atlanta, home to plenty of top-notch studios like Tree Sound or Patchwerk to name just a couple, that would surely be willing to accommodate his recording needs. However, the multi-hyphenate Rap star has chosen to complete the Donda album in the same place he held its fame listening session. while sleeping in what looks like a bare-bones dorm room in a college with a modest budget. Still The GOAT: Simone Biles Will Not Participate In Individual All-Around Gymnastics Final #SimoneBiles

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: NurPhoto / Getty Simone Biles has done more in her 24 years on Earth than nearly any of her critics and detractors, so when you see pundits and others critiquing her decision to step away from completion, ignore them. The peanut gallery will undoubtedly have much more to say after Biles stepped down from participating in the individual all-around gymnastics finals at the Tokyo Olympics but most are siding with the Texas native’s decision to prioritize her mental health. Biles found herself faced with immense pressure as she and the rest of the Team USA women’s gymnastics team entered the games with high expectations of dominating their events. While TEAM USA did notch a silver medal in the team competition, Biles stepped down from the events after exhibit...

Dutch Government Extends Music Festival Ban Through August

An update to Dutch COVID-19 regulations has prolonged a ban on the nation’s music festivals for at least another month, citing continued risks to public health in the immediate term. Over the last few months the relationship between world-renowned Dutch festival brands and the government has soured, to say the least. Despite high hopes for a triumphant 2021 return for Tomorrowland, among other events, festival organizers continue to cite a lack of clarity in regulation and direction from the government as the cause for their indefinite postponement.  In the case of Tomorrowland, as recently as June the government indicated a favorable outlook in terms of their efforts to green-light a 2021 edition in late August. By late July, the festival had been cancelled after their app...

New Analysis Exposes Vast Gap Between Haves and Have Nots of the Streaming Economy

For artists participating in the Big Tech-driven streaming economies of Apple Music, Spotify, and beyond, it’s no secret that there’s a vast chasm between the haves and the have nots.  But how large is that gulf really? A new Rolling Stone piece published by Tim Ingham, founder of Music Business Worldwide, sought to answer that question by piecing together nuggets of data released by Spotify’s own volition. Unfortunately, what unfolded was the revelation of deep inequality within an increasingly crowded digital landscape.  It all starts from one sobering big picture statistic. Nearly 57,000 artists on Spotify are vying for their share of around $4.5 billion, which represents 90% of the royalties Spotify pays annually. According to Spotify’s statistics outl...

Sharon Van Etten, Jack Antonoff, Fred Armisen Join Beck Onstage at Newport Folk Festival: Watch

For being such a low-key event, Newport Folk Festival sure loves to jam as many star-studded cameos and surprises as possible into their schedule. The latest example of such went down on Tuesday when Beck was joined onstage by Sharon Van Etten, Jack Antonoff, and Fred Armisen for different songs. Because, you know, why not? Normally Newport Folk Festival takes place over the course of one weekend, but the 2021 edition of the event is operating a little differently. They divided their schedule up over two back-to-back three-day chunks, each with a completely unique lineup. To help mitigate COVID-19 risks, Newport organizers also limited the capacity to just 5,000 daily attendees. All of this helps set the scene for the magical reality of a cameo-filled set like the one Beck just p...

DaBaby Defends “Freedom” to Be Homophobic in New Music Video

Not only is DaBaby not apologizing for homophobic remarks he made at Rolling Loud Miami, he is now defending his “freedom” to mock gay people. In the new self-directed music video for “Giving What It’s Supposed to Give,” the rapper makes two references to the controversy, holding up a sign that says “AIDS,” and spelling out a message in rainbow lettering directed at the LGBTQ community: “My apologies for being me the same way you want the freedom to be you.” In this case, “being me,” includes mocking people with AIDS and telling queer festival-goers they’re not welcome. During his July 25th performance, DaBaby invited only some parts of the audience to get hyped. “You didn’t show up today with HIV, AIDS, any of those deadly sexually transmitted diseases that’ll make you die [in] two, ...

Marilyn Manson Seeks to Dismiss Esmé Bianco’s Lawsuit, Describes Assault Allegations by Multiple Women as “Coordinated Attack”

Marilyn Manson has filed legal papers seeking to dismiss a lawsuit brought against him by Game of Thrones actress Esmé Bianco. In the same documents, the disgraced singer describes the recent sexual assault allegations by multiple women as a “coordinated attack.” Bianco is one of a number of women who have accused Manson of sexual abuse over the past several months. As previously reported, she sued the shock rocker in April for sexual assault, physical abuse, and human trafficking. She first shared her story in February, weeks after actress Evan Rachel Wood went public with her accusations against Manson. Bianco described Manson as “monster who almost destroyed me,” adding that she “basically felt like a prisoner” while living with the singer. She accused Manson of using “drugs, force...
