Next year, Monegros Desert Festival wants you to do it in a plane—dance the night away, that is. For the Spanish event’s 2022 edition, organizers have purchased a retired Airbus A330 and converted the fuselage into a stage and dance floor. “We will transform it into a club for 1,000 people,” they announced this month on social media. Powered by a partnership with 8.6 Beer, the “Montegros 8.6 Airlines Experience” stage will officially take flight July 30th, 2022. With more than 80 artists on the festival’s lineup, including Wu-Tang Clan, Richie Hawtin, Adam Beyer and Amelie Lens, this is one event you might just want to hop on board for. Monegros Desert Festival’s 2022 edition will be its first in five years. Founded in 1994, i...
In 2016, The Midnight turned heads in the niche yet devoted synthwave community with the release of their debut album, Endless Summer. They would go on to become one of the most prominent acts in the genre and emerge as a global phenomenon, playing shows all over the world. Now, a half a decade after its release, they’ve teamed up with The Magik*Magik Orchestra for a grand rework of their album. Titled The Rearview Mirror, the record spans five fan-favorite songs from Endless Summer. They’ve stripped away the retrofuturistic production and added a medley of strings, keys, and percussion from the international orchestra. The five tracks fans are able to experience reworks of are “Endless Summer,” “Vampires,” “The Comeback Kid,”...
Fans of midtempo music are in luck after REZZ dropped the curtain on an unreleased, upcoming collaboration with Deathpact. The song, which Space Mom dropped at a show over the weekend, is rife with signature elements of both artists, who are among the corps d’elite of the midtempo genre. Hypnotic synths and a menacing, saw-laden drop pervade the arrangement for a typically festival-ready midtempo anthem. REZZ revealed the track in late June, when she told fans to look out for it at her forthcoming DJ sets along with an unreleased collab with SVDDEN DEATH’s VOYD moniker. At the time of this article’s publication, REZZ hasn’t announced a title or release date for either track, but the tweet below indicates the Deathpact collab will hit streaming pl...

Ava Maybee is a Los Angeles-based musician who writes indie pop songs with a funk undercurrent. She’s also the daughter of Chad Smith, the drummer in Red Hot Chili Peppers and the internet’s favorite Will Ferrell lookalike. Over the weekend, she paid tribute to her dad’s band by covering “Universally Speaking” on Instagram, notes Exclaim. Check it out below. “Universally Speaking” originally appeared on Red Hot Chili Peppers’ classic 2002 album By the Way. It’s a poppy number full of vibrant guitar riffs and hard-hitting yet simple drums. But in the hands of Ava Maybee, the single turns into a moving piano ballad with gentle background ambiance. She’s got a naturally deep voice, and hearing it stripped down for this cover song makes it obvious just how talented of a singer she re...
The memorable run of Jesús del Río on The Voice Kids Spain has come to an end. The young boy went viral with his rousing rendition of the AC/DC classic “Highway to Hell” during the blind auditions and then earned a trip to the finals by singing “Back in Black.” For the 8-year-old’s last performance, he sang the Europe anthem “The Final Countdown,” but it wasn’t enough to win the competition. Jesús is clearly a fan of hard rock, having looked quite uncomfortable singing Bruno Mars’ “Locked Out of Heaven” during the battle round. Until his performance in the finals, it appeared that AC/DC was the only band that suited his wailing vocals. However, he performed an admirable rendition of “The Final Countdown” for his last song of the competition. Ultimately, Jesús’ coach, Spanish singer Melendi...
In a new interview with Metal Pilgrim, ANTHRAX bassist Frank Bello discussed the progress of the writing sessions for the follow-up to 2016’s “For All Kings” album. Speaking about the long time it has taken for him and his bandmates to work on the material for the new record, Frank said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “COVID hit and stopped everything. You’ve gotta realize, we can’t get on a plane — during COVID, during the whole thing, we couldn’t get on a plane and just travel to go jam. Usually what happens with an ANTHRAX record, Charlie [Benante, drums], Scott [Ian, guitar] and myself would all congregate in one spot. Either I would fly out to L.A. or Chicago or they would fly to New York or we go to L.A., Scott‘s house, we would a...
In a recent interview with Long & McQuade, RUSH guitarist Alex Lifeson was asked whether he strove to recreate his recorded guitar solos live as accurately as possible or he tried to find room to improvise and do something different. He responded (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “I think traditionally we always tried to recreate what our albums were. So, certainly in the earlier days, what you heard on the record was what you were gonna hear live except that it’s amplified and it’s live. As things progressed, we became more complicated in our arrangements and our music, but we always tried to recreate what we did on a record live. Now, a lot of players or a lot of bands like to be quite loose in their arrangements, and certainly we loved to improvise, but for RUS...
