It’s no secret that music artists are known for making outrageous purchases. Just ask Drake, who forked up $395,000 for a mattress made with gold brass and horsehair. It’s tough to keep up with all the hubris and clout-chasing of the music industry’s biggest stars, but the latest acquisition by Lil Uzi Vert is astronomically absurd. You’ll get that pun in a moment. According to Grimes, the Grammy-nominated hip-hop artist has bought a planet—yes, a planet—bigger than Jupiter. She took to Twitter to claim that Uzi will become the first human to legally own a planet after purchasing WASP-127b, a gas giant exoplanet discovered in 2016. Uzi quickly chimed in to clarify the bizarro claim, which is apparently actually coming to fruition. In hi...
Following graphic allegations of sex trafficking and possessing child pornography, among other charges, DJ and electronic music producer Bassnectar has responded to an explosive lawsuit filed on behalf of multiple women. VICE reports Bassnectar, whose real name is Lorin Ashton, has denied all of the accusations and is demanding a jury trial, according to an official response filed in a U.S. district court in Tennessee. “This case is nothing more than an attempt by opportunistic women who have chosen to sue Ashton, his record label, managers, and even one of the charities he has contributed to, all in an attempt to frame years of friendship as trafficking so that they can exploit a statute for monetary gain,” the response reads. “Our clients want to see just...

Award-winning actor, musician, and creator Caleb Landry Jones announced his sophomore psych-rock album, Gadzooks Vol. 1, will be out September 24. Its intriguing lead single, “Bogie” is out now. “The perspectives from which I write, jump erratically and can turn on a dime,” Jones said in a statement. “Others grow and burn, only to sometimes vanish on the spot, just before the hat drops. . . My intention is to not rob the listener of their own fantasies by describing the annals of purpose which in turn, only unearth a fragile magic. I am interested only in the album’s response by its audience. The album is there to be digested, not by the front of your brain, but by the back. It is for the lover of labyrinths and quagmires.” A taste of that is heard in “Bogie,” with lyrics such as “Cau...

Wade Randolph Hampton and Tef Foo’s “Seventh Heaven” party hadn’t even gotten to midnight when the shit hit the fan. It was New Year’s Eve 1996. They had booked the Grand Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles, and expected 17,000 people to attend. They’d promoted the show with an elaborate tabloid-style flyer and booked artists like Hardkiss, Symbiosis, and Hampton himself to play. But they hadn’t counted on a bad batch of energy drinks. “Around 9:15, 9:30, it’s like, ‘What’s going on?’ And our manager says, ‘Well, some people are getting sick,’” says Foo of when he first heard about the drink, called Liquid FX and distributed by a man named Daniel Bricker for free to fans waiting in line. “Then around 10 o’clock I’m like, fuck, I have to get on the mic to tell them don’t drink that fuck...
Just days after Valve opened pre-registrations for its upcoming Steam Deck, eBay has already become flooded by listings from scalpers. According to new reports, offers for the handheld console started appearing on eBay within 24 hours of Valve’s pre-registration, which only required a $5 USD deposit in order to secure a chance at purchasing the device. While the base model itself retails for $400 USD, listings from these scalpers went as high as $2,500 USD. Many listings also carry titles suggesting that the Steam Decks have been securely purchased and will ship by December, which as Kotaku points out is simply not true. Valve has made clear that while it hopes to convert as many pre-registrations as possible to full purchases, the process isn’t 100 percent guaranteed, and order invit...

This promo is part of a larger collab with Yu Nagaba called the Yu Nagaba Box. This limited pack sees card sleeves with the artist’s work, a playmat, deck box, storage box, and smartphone ring. A de-aged Paul McCartney is here to dance through your nightmares in the new video for Beck’s version of “Find My Way.” The track appeared on McCartney III Imagined, a collection of heavy-hitting covers of tracks from the master’s latest album McCartney III. With “Find My Way,” Beck transformed a rock tune that could have come from any decade into a disco funk banger, with off-kilter percussion that transported Macca back to the groovy music of his youth. The new video, directed by Andrew Donoho, makes that metaphorical time travel literal. The clip opens in a hotel hallway painted in two once-popular shades of burnt orange. The door at the end experiences a few violent flashes of light, after which who should appear but Paul McCartney, looking less like the 79-year-old he currently is and...

Along the way are shows in such venues as Brooklyn’s Warsaw and Detroit’s St. Andrews Hall. “We had a really good time throwing this tour together,” Municipal Waste vocalist Tony Foresta said in a press release. “Each band is a heavy hitter in their own right and we are beyond excited to bring this thing on the road.” Advertisement Related Video Added Ryan Waste: “There’s a little something for everyone on this run. Plus, Dead Heat is one of my all-time favorite movies. ‘Lady, I’m f–king dead.’” The ...
After releasing the definitive song of the summer, “Butter,” which spent a staggering seven weeks at no. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, BTS has dropped yet another joyful bop in the form of “Permission To Dance.” The rumors are true: “Permission To Dance” has now replaced “Butter” at No. 1, meaning BTS has accumulated number 1 tracks faster than any artist since Michael Jackson. Filmed by teams in both Seoul and Los Angeles, there’s plenty to unpack from the accompanying music video, but among the euphoric vignettes, heartfelt spotlights on service workers through the pandemic, and Jungkook’s incredibly emo haircut, one detail stands out: The BTS ARMY has been abuzz with the fact that the choreography incorporates sign language. William Martinez, a professional actor and musician who grew up ...
Tommy Genesis’ upcoming album, Goldilocks x, is a loaded fairytale. There’s a track with a banging house beat; another she describes as her “Drake moment,” where she goes full-blown Tommy-the-singer; and an entire middle section she calls a “Charlie Heat EP” — a string of tracks produced by the in-demand beatmaker. After giving pretty much everything a try on this album, the project name was a no-brainer. She thinks she got the blend just right. “You know in ‘Goldilocks’ where she’s like, ‘It’s too hot, it’s too cold, this chair is too big, it’s too small?’” Tommy asks over the phone, shortly before announcing the record, out Sept. 10 via Downtown Records. “‘Goldilocks’ is the sweet spot. And the ‘x’ is experimental. For me, it’s about finding that sweet spot and all...
