Immediate Future of Las Vegas Nightlife Uncertain After Casinos Reestablish Mask Mandate

Every Las Vegas gambler’s poker face just got much stronger after a trio of major casinos reestablished mask mandates. After the Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) announced new guidelines urging individuals to wear masks regardless of their vaccination status, The Venetian, Palazzo and Sands Expo & Convention Center announced policy changes requiring employees to wear face coverings amid a surge of COVID-19 infections in Clark County. The news arrives on the heels of a bleak report issued by the White House COVID-19 Response Team last week, which singled out Las Vegas as the worst city in the nation in terms of COVID-19 transmission among metro areas with more than one million people. According to local CBS affiliate KLAS-TV, Clark County—by far Nevada’s larg...

YNGWIE MALMSTEEN: ‘I Deliberately Don’t Listen To Music At All’ When I’m Writing

In a new interview with United Rock Nations, legendary Swedish guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen was asked if he ever listens to his old albums for inspiration when he is composing music. He responded (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “Never. Never. In fact, what I do is I deliberately don’t listen to music at all. I don’t listen to anything. Especially when I’m in a composing mode, which is actually pretty much all the time, because every time I pick up a guitar — or even when I don’t have a guitar in my hand — I compose. And I don’t like to be even inadvertently influenced by anything. So I certainly don’t care about what’s in or what’s trendy, and I never did. And I don’t consider listening to my old stuff. I don’t wanna do ...

MICHAEL KISKE: Stepping Away From HELLOWEEN For Nearly 25 Years ‘Was Really Good For Me’

HELLOWEEN singer Michael Kiske recently spoke to Planet Rock‘s “My Planet Rocks” about the lessons he learned by exiting the band in 1993, only to return 24 years later. “It was very important for me,” he said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET). “As difficult as it was in the beginning to be suddenly completely on your own, it was really good for me. It shaped my personality. I was figuring out ideals; I was figuring out why I wanna do what and how. And this whole process of getting into these fights and arguments with my former bandmates and being massively disappointed about how it went down, about the industry, about the business, about the scenes and all that, and going through all that over the years and actually coming out of it again more mature...

RACHEL BOLAN Says Producer NICK RASKULINECZ Has Brought SKID ROW Back To Band’s Roots: ‘I’m Very Excited About It’

During an appearance on the latest episode of the “In The Trenches with Ryan Roxie” video podcast, SKID ROW bassist Rachel Bolan spoke about the progress of the recording sessions for the band’s long-awaited new album. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “We’re fortunate enough to work with a producer named Nick Raskulinecz. And I’m sure, unless you live under a rock, that you’ve heard something that he’s produced. He’s produced a couple of FOO FIGHTERS records, STONE SOUR, HALESTORM, EVANESCENCE, RUSH, ALICE IN CHAINS… He’s got a pretty impressive track record. And we’re doing the record with him here in Nashville. He’s actually my neighbor. “He has done something with us that is just incredible,”...

Nucleosynthesis – EPOCH OF CHIRALITY

RATING: 8.5/10 According to Wikipedia, “a molecule or ion is called chiral if it cannot be superposed on its mirror image by any combination of rotations, translations, and some conformational changes. This geometric property is called chirality.” So that’s cleared that up. These are strange times, and strange times call for strange metal records. You don’t have to be able to understand the concept of chirality to appreciate that EPOCH OF CHIRALITY have appeared from nowhere, seemingly fully fledged and armed with one of the most wildly enjoyable, sci-fi themed albums in recent memory. An all-encompassing instrumental prog metal odyssey through twinkling storms of cosmic debris and unfathomable black voids, “Nucleosynthesis” is pure escapism, and all the...

Brandi Carlile Announces New Album In These Silent Days, Shares “Right on Time”: Stream

Brandi Carlile has announced a new studio album called In These Silent Days, and shared the lead single, “Right on Time”. Written and recorded by Carlile while in quarantine with her longtime bandmates Tim and Phil Hanseroth, the album found inspiration from her recent memoir, Broken Horses, leading to 10 tracks that arose from “a time of deep and personal reckoning.” As Carlile explained in a statement, “There’s plenty reflection… but mostly it’s a celebration. This album is what drama mixed with joy sounds like. It’s resistance and gratitude, righteous anger and radical forgiveness. It’s the sound of these silent days.” Along with the Hanseroth brothers, the album features a guest appearance from Lucius’ Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig on the track “You and Me on the Rock.” Advert...

Yola Thunders Through “Stand for Myself” on Colbert: Watch

Here’s a morning pick-me-up stronger than a double espresso: Yola swung by Colbert and delivered a towering performance of her new single “Stand for Myself.” This self-empowerment anthem was advertised as being accompanied by Late Show bandleader Jon Batiste. While video evidence suggests he was indeed playing the piano, you’d have to tear your eyes away from Yola to notice him. That’s no easy feat; she commanded the stage in a dress as bright and red as the dawn, as her gale-force vocals swept up and down the register. By the end, the camera panned out to show the audience giving a standing ovation. Check out Yola’s “Stand for Myself” below. The track appears on her upcoming album of the same name, with Stand for Myself dropping July 30th on Easy Eye Sound. Earlie...

Kevin Smith Flips the Script on Eternia with Masters of the Universe: Revelation: Review

The Pitch: Following directly from the original ’80s cartoon He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, the battle between He-Man (Chris Wood) and Skeletor (Mark Hamill) continues to rage over Eternia and the magical powers of Castle Grayskull. But in the wake of Eternia’s most devastating battle yet, the Power Sword is split in twain and the planet is fragmented, thrown into an anarchic wasteland without magic or hope. Without the power of He-Man to rely on, it’s up to Man-at-Arms’ daughter Teela (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and her cohorts — including old faces like Orko (Griffin Newman) and Moss-Man (Alan Oppenheimer), as well as new faces like Teela’s partner in crime Andra (Tiffany Smith) — to reforge the Sword and save the universe. Back to Battle-Cat Basics: At first blush, Kevin Smith...
