Born in Nigeria and raised in Canada, TOBi is a rapper on the rise. He’s now teamed with Mick Jenkins for a new meditation on intoxication, “Off the Drugs.” This is not a confessional track or an ode to sobriety, and in fact, the woozy guitars and giddy horns ensure that “Off the Drugs” would sound great while high as a kite. The song opens with one of our favorite legal potions, as TOBi raps, “Caught me slippin’, I was sippin’ bourbon/ Unfamiliar feelings, it’s that liquid courage.” Throughout the song, he also gets buzzed off the bag, ripped off romance, and just plain stoned. “When off the drugs,” he sings, “Show me some love/ On a good trip and I hope it never end/ High as a ceiling fan and I got the spins.” For his part, Jenkins rolls through and rolls up, spinning together ...

Rosé unveiled her take on Paramore’s “The Only Exception” while appearing on the South Korean variety show Sea of Hope. Seated on the ground outside a Korean food stall, the BLACKPINK singer strummed an acoustic guitar while accompanied by another guitarist and a keyboard player. “When I was younger I saw my daddy cry/ And curse at the wind/ He broke his own heart and I watched/ As he tried to reassemble it/ And my momma swore that she would/ Never let herself forget/ And that was the day that I promised/ I’d never sing of love if it does not exist,” she sang. The laidback performance follows Rosé’s earlier cover of John Mayer’s 2006 classic “Slow Dancing in a Burning Room” from the same program late last month. Faye Webster is one of the best singer-songwriters on the planet. The Atlanta native, 24, seamlessly channels anxiety and humor with a candidness that makes her music relatable. This is most apparent on her latest album, I Know I’m Funny haha. Written and recorded prior to the pandemic, it’s earned universal plaudits and captured the imagination of her growing fanbase. But Webster, who says she’s always been “introverted,” shrugs off the praise. “I could have put this album out, and [have] almost nobody pay attention to it, and I would still be a very happy person,” Webster tells SPIN over Zoom from her East Atlanta hideout. Despite the acclaim, it’s hard to know who likes and doesn’t like what she’s done — and she doesn’t really care. “It’s like, I’m writing these songs to express myself ...
The Wild Feathers are back. After releasing an odds-and-ends compilation last year, the quartet have a new album on the way. Titled Alvarado, the record is out on Oct. 8 through New West Records. Today, they’ve shared a foot-tappin’ new tune in the form of “Ain’t Lookin.” “We’ve always written and demoed new songs in a cabin outside of town and then gone into the studio to record the album. This time, we decided to take the studio to the cabin and produce it ourselves,” Ricky Young said. “Ain’t Lookin” encapsulates all of The Wild Feathers country-rock charm, singing “Love is whatcha find when it ain’t what you’re looking for.” Listen to “Ain’t Lookin” below. “Where do you wanna go?/ Who do you wanna be?/ Got nothing but forever so we can wait and see/ No one to tell us no, no one but you and me/ It doesn’t get much better, got nothing but forever/ Where do you wanna go?” they sing on the chorus. When Billboard caught up with Nick after he was revealed as the Piglet on the most recent season of The Masked Singer, he was touting the group’s “98 Days of Summer” campaign that led up to this weekend’s release of “Where You Wanna Go.” He said the reunited group also has other new music in the can and more time booked in the studio to complete additional tracks later this summer. “We’ve also done a remix album of all the classic 98 hits,” he said. “After a year of being on ...
One America’s Got Talent contestant brought the noise on Tuesday (July 13), and he was probably familiar to some viewers of NBC’s talent competition. Michael Winslow, who starred as Jones on the popular ’80s and ’90s Police Academy films, auditioned to once again show off his impressive vocal sound effects. “I used to be the man of 10,000 sound effects, but we’re in the hundreds of thousands now,” explained Winslow — who also displayed his talents in Spaceballs and Gremlins — in his intro. The “voicetramentalist” said that he quit showbiz to take care of his children when he became a widower. “Now, after raising my two kids, I’m in a different phase. I think this is my time. And America’s Got Talent is the ...

SAXON frontman Biff Byford has opened up about his hearing loss, saying that wearing a hearing aid after being exposed to loud music for over 40 years has greatly improved his overall quality of life. He says: “Since forming SAXON in 1977, we have released a new album every 18 months and have no plans of slowing down. Performing at gigs, playing our new songs in front of crowds and hearing them sing along is one of the greatest feelings in the world. That’s why I knew I had to get my hearing tested before our first gig back at Bloodstock Open Air Festival in August. “I discovered heavy metal music as a teenager, so I’ve been around high decibels and loud equipment for over 50 years,” he continues. “Back in the day at gigs sound restrictions didn’t ...
