During a recent YouTube livestream for his 58th birthday, legendary Swedish guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen was asked if he would ever consider making an album that is reminiscent of his earlier efforts, as requested by some of his biggest fans. He responded (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “Obviously, I’m very flattered that so many people like what I do, but I’m also aware that a lot of people don’t like what I do. So what I end up doing is I don’t make albums on request — except [2019’s] ‘Blue Lightning’ [which paid homage to those from the blues world who have inspired him] was a little bit like a request album, a little bit, although I did what I wanted anyway. But especially on this last album, ‘Parabellum’, it’s a ver...
“We can’t thank you enough for your prayers, support, and unending love,” the post said. “You have walked with us through this very difficult journey and we felt you there the entire way. We love you so much and we thank you for the support. At this time the family has requested that you respect their time together and allow them to receive some much needed rest. Please hold off on reaching out with texts and phone calls for a few days.” Casting Crowns first told fans of Williams’ accident on June 27, when they wrote, “Our friend & former drummer, Andy Williams, was in a motorcycle accident this morning and really need your prayers!” On Friday, the group posted a video of Williams drumming as a tribute to their late bandmate. “We love you...

Justin Timberlake made an impressive shot across the golf course. Although he was there to play golf — as part of a celebrity charity event, the 2021 American Century Championship, in South Lake Tahoe, Nevada — the pop star apparently took a moment to shoot a basketball straight into a hoop from quite a far distance, to wild applause. “Shots between holes @acchampionship #accgolf,” Timberlake captioned the clip, which he posted Sunday (July 11) on Instagram. From clothing and wakesurf boards to baseball cards and a restaurant, Steve Aoki‘s line of branded collabs is second to none when it comes to EDM influencers. Now, the world renowned DJ is expanding into luxury accessories with a special edition Bulgari timepiece. Described by the brand as “a beam of light at night,” Aoki’s watch is made of aluminum and coated in Superluminova, a photo-luminescent that glows in the dark. “I think one of the most important things that denotes who I am is nightlife. I thrive at night. My parties are live at night, my shows,” Aoki told Hodinkee of the watch’s inspiration. “We wanted to make the watch something you wear when you go out and get active at night. That’s what the Superluminova is all...
This article originally appeared in the June 2002 issue of SPIN. It is the end of one of the world’s grandest athletic events. Seventy-eight nations have sent their best to this wintry city, and now just two champions remain, facing each other at last. The hours of practice and the years of work all come down to this one final moment. Bon Jovi vs. Moby. Tonight’s closing ceremony for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games is the sort of all-star, triple-axel extravaganza that makes Super Bowl halftime seem austere. Already here at Salt Lake City’s Rice-Eccles stadium, a fire-flanked Kiss have rocked (on ice!) with former Olympic figure skaters Katarina Witt and Kristi Yamaguchi; Harry Connick Jr. has sung for skating legend Dorothy Hamill; and Earth Wind & Fire have jammed with what appeared to...
As the director and star of the pop band comedy film That Thing You Do!, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Tom Hanks has an affinity for music. To celebrate his 65th birthday on Friday, the beloved actor assembled an hour-long DJ set of rock ’n’ roll deep cuts for Boss Radio 66, an independent online radio station. For fans of ‘50s and ‘60s rock ‘n’ roll — or those who just have an affinity for Americana nostalgia in general — Hanks’ DJ set is a delight that testifies to his extensive knowledge of the era. His set extends far beyond the Elvis and Buddy Holly classics we’ve all come to know and love, making a great opportunity for some deep discoveries. “It’s gonna be a bitchin’ year! 66! A bitchin’ year!” Hanks jokes near the end of the episode, which was produced Johnny “Big Hand” Bart...
