Don’t need prayers, thoughts, or hugs. I just need people to understand that I won’t be in Moline or Ashland to do the FIREHOUSE shows. My apologies to everyone involved. The Midnight Announce Upcoming Orchestral Version of Debut Album, “Endless Summer”

The Midnight are breathing new life into their 2016 debut album, Endless Summer. With help from the Magik*Magik Orchestra, the renowned synthwave outfit will reimagine their debut album, 2016’s The Rearview Mirror, to celebrate its five-year anniversary. The duo took to social media to share a behind-the-scenes teaser video of the recording process, writing that they “wanted to try something different” as they reflected on the breakthrough album.  Before the full EP drops, synthwave connoisseurs can enjoy its first single, “Vampires.” The track is quite a departure from The Midnight’s signature retrofuturistic sound, as Magik*Magik transforms the classic with a rich, emotive makeover. Alongside the digital release, The Midni...

New MusicCareers Platform Aims to Help Jobseekers Find Post-Pandemic Work

As the music industry continues to find its footing in the wake of the devastating economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, a new resource has launched with the goal of aiding both employers and jobseekers in identifying new opportunities.  Entrepreneurs Budi Voogt and David Sikorski recently unveiled MusicCareers, a music industry-specific job board platform dedicated to finding work for jobseekers. Last year saw a bifurcation of the music business unlike any other period in history. According to the BBC, live music revenues fell around 85% in 2020. However, commercial music sales continued to grow substantially due to the tailwinds of an 18.5% increase in streaming subscription revenue in 2020. The result of such stark market shifts has left many workers feeling unfamiliar with the...

Laidback Luke Revives Techno Alias, Dark Chanell, for Sophomore EP: Listen

In February 2021, Laidback Luke unveiled his Dark Chanell alias with the release of the project’s pulsing debut EP, No. 1. The iconic Dutch DJ, whose self-professed first love is techno, has now revived his ominous nom de plume with his sophomore record, the two-track New York Five-O EP. Tencent Music Spared From Forced Sales in China Regulatory Crackdown

The government action is part of a broader attempt by Beijing to regulate its domestic technology sector, which grew rapidly after years of relatively little regulation. Since last December, regulators have fined 11 companies, including Tencent, Baidu, Alibaba and ByteDance, for failing to disclose past acquisitions and investments. News of the regulatory fines sent shares of Tencent Music Entertainment on the New York Stock Exchange down more than 10% on Wednesday and Thursday to $12.69 a share. Shares of other Chinese tech companies listed in the U.S., including JD.com, Alibaba and Pinduoduo, also slid. (TME rebounded slightly on Friday, up 1.5% to $12.88.) Still, despite the sweeping penalties enacted, the lack of forced divestitures seemed to allay investor concerns that Tencent Music ...

First Out: New Music From Melissa Etheridge, Amorphous, Allison Ponthier & More

Melissa Etheridge, “For the Last Time” “This song was written back in a time when things weren’t as beautiful as they are today,” Melissa Etheridge opines in the opening moments of her latest single. “Things were getting hard, and there was not a lot I could do about it.” With a simple introduction, the queer icon makes the mood of “For the Last Time” abundantly clear — this is a song about frustration. The relentless guitar riffs and occasional glissandos from a moody harmonica add to the growling anger in Etheridge’s voice, as she vents about a woman she can’t seem to get out of her head, and who won’t admit that the feelings between them are mutual. If you’re in need of some emotional release, let Melissa Ethe...
