Laidback Luke Revives Techno Alias, Dark Chanell, for Sophomore EP: Listen
In February 2021, Laidback Luke unveiled his Dark Chanell alias with the release of the project’s pulsing debut EP, No. 1. The iconic Dutch DJ, whose self-professed first love is techno, has now revived his ominous nom de plume with his sophomore record, the two-track New York Five-O EP. Out now on Luke’s Mixmash banner, the menacing EP offers the dark underground warehouse sounds that longtime techno fans crave. Fusing elements of disco with vintage techno, “Foxy Town” applies sinister bass guitar licks and a thumping bassline. Balancing out the EP is its second track “Hutch,” which uses haunting vox and brooding, glitchy sound design. Check out the new EP below. Tencent Music Spared From Forced Sales in China Regulatory Crackdown
The government action is part of a broader attempt by Beijing to regulate its domestic technology sector, which grew rapidly after years of relatively little regulation. Since last December, regulators have fined 11 companies, including Tencent, Baidu, Alibaba and ByteDance, for failing to disclose past acquisitions and investments. News of the regulatory fines sent shares of Tencent Music Entertainment on the New York Stock Exchange down more than 10% on Wednesday and Thursday to $12.69 a share. According to reports, director Masahiro Sakurai confirmed in his recent Famitsu column that Tekken character Kazuya Mishima will be the second to the last Ultimate DLC character. One more character, who is unknown at this point, will be released following Kazuya and Challenger Pack #2 will be completed. Many fans are hoping for a third Challenger Pack, however Sakurai has repeatedly said that it is not in the cards.
