Ben Böhmer and Tinlicker Craft Stirring Melodic House With “Run Away” on Anjunadeep

Two of Anjunadeep’s mainstay artists, Ben Böhmer and Tinlicker, have come together for a rousing melodic house track. On “Run Away,” soft keys resound momentarily before giving way to Felix Raphael’s yearning voice. Delicate vocals float above bright chords, swiftly culminating into the soul of the song. Here, Böhmer and Tinlicker’s worlds fuse. Crisp, powerful drums—signature of Tinlicker—and a drifting, emotive melody typical of Böhmer create a musing ambivalence that mirrors the theme of the song. Running away, breaking free of something, is liberating. Though the sting of holding on for too long often lingers past the point of no return. The lyrics highlight this theme, Felix Raphael’s tone underpins it, and the soundscape crafted by Böhmer and Tinlicker echoes it through the track. “R...

Viral “polyriddim” Producer phonon Signs to UTA, Prodigy Artists

It looks like viral “polyriddim” producer phonon will be inspiring awe and confusing dubstep fans for the foreseeable future. The blossoming bass music producer has announced his signing to United Talent Agency for booking services and Prodigy Artists for management. If you’ve ever heard “polyriddim,” you’ll understand the use of the word “confusing.” Instead of trying to explain the track, which was produced in a time signature more appropriate for Martians, we’ll let Eliminate illustrate. phonon isn’t a one-trick pony. He may have broken through with “Polyriddim,” but the track doubled as a launchpad for an innately gifted producer, as opposed to a flash in the pan. He proved as much after the rel...

QUIET RIOT’s ALEX GROSSI On FRANKIE BANALI’s Cancer Battle: ‘He Handled It So Bravely And So Well’

QUIET RIOT guitarist Alex Grossi spoke to Talking Metal about the band’s decision to carry on after drummer Frankie Banali‘s death. The group, which now features drummer Johnny Kelly (DANZIG, TYPE O NEGATIVE), played a couple of shows in October and has a string of dates booked in 2021. Banali, who joined QUIET RIOT in 1982 and played on its breakthrough album, 1983’s “Metal Health”, died in August after a 16-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Asked if QUIET RIOT‘s continuation was something that he and his bandmates discussed with Banali before the drummer’s passing, Alex said: “It was never flat-out discussed, but he just kept accepting dates. And he told me, ‘Look, when I can’t play, you have the trademark sewn up,’ thi...
