Marshmello has announced he’s locked in his first release of the year, a massive collaboration alongside Benny Blanco and Vance Joy. Luckily, the superstar producer assured fans won’t have to wait long to hear it, as “You” will be out next week. Once again Marshmello proves to be a master at subverting expectations. This collaborative ensemble was far off the radar, and with Mello withholding any preview of the track for now, it seems we’ll be left hanging for a few days until its final release. He also teased a claymation style music video starring the three artists that will likely accompany the track. As 2020 came to a close, Marshmello acknowledged he’d gone particularly quiet on social media. He attributed the break to ...

UK to Increase Fines to £800 for Residents Attending and Hosting House Parties

New COVID-19 related measures in the UK aim to increase the crackdown of house parties with more than 15 people present. Starting next week, fines of £800 will be assessed to attendees who break the law, an amount that is quadruple the current fee of £200. Home Secretary Priti Patel expressed frustration stating the government would “not stand by while a small number of individuals put others at risk.” Martin Hewitt, Chairman of the National Police Chiefs’ Council, chimed in to decry large gatherings as “dangerous” and “irresponsible.” Believing prior measures were not effective enough, Hewitt has welcomed the stricter penalties. He went on to provide recent examples of residents continuing to break regulations. In one instance, he c...

With years of combined experience and hundreds of gigs around the world, bassist Henri “Henkka T. Blacksmith” Seppälä, vocalist Ville Malja (LAPKO), guitarist Jussi Ylikoski and drummer Mikko Hakila (DISCO ENSEMBLE) united last year to form MOON SHOT. They now release the band’s second single and video, “Blood Looks Cool”, available on all streaming platforms. A build-up of tension, a “rubber band stretched too far” according to Hakila, released with a flash as the chorus takes over, “Blood Looks Cool” has a very specific target in mind. “‘Blood Looks Cool’ is a song for outsiders,” says Malja. “For those who feel they don’t belong. It’s a positive fight song about social otherness.” Previ...

R.I.P. Larry King, Longtime TV Host Dead at 87

Larry King, the famously suspender-clad and bespectacled media personality who became a fixture on television screens and an enduring part of American popular culture, has died at the age of 87. According to a statement issued by his family, King passed away Saturday morning (January 23rd) at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Earlier this month, King was hospitalized after contracting COVID-19. A two-time Peabody and Emmy Award winner, King’s career spanned across six decades and multiple mediums. He’s perhaps best remembered as the host of CNN’s Larry King Live, the interview-based program that he moderated for 25 years. Following his exit from CNN in the early 2010s, King launched a new program called Larry King Now on Hulu. All told, King was said to have conducted over 3...

Arctic Monkeys’ Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not Takes Us Back to Their Garage Days

Editor’s Notes: Consequence has been around long enough that so many of the new albums that originally turned us on to music are now celebrating their first milestone anniversaries. As we begin to reflect on these records, you can catch our updated assessments here. “I just wanted to be one of The Strokes,” Arctic Monkeys’ vocalist Alex Turner sings on the opening line of Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino. It’s a somewhat ironic statement. The Sheffield indie rockers’ most recent album sounds nothing like The Strokes, especially the opening track “Star Treatment”. The 2018 record is infused with a lounge-jazz, yacht-rock persona with songs that follow Odyssean orbits rather than traditional verse-chorus patterns. With the Arctic Monkeys that fans are familiar with now, going back to their 20...

Larry King, Legendary Broadcast Journalist, Dies at Age 87

With his celebrity interviews, political debates and topical discussions, King wasn’t just an enduring on-air personality. He also set himself apart with the curiosity be brought to every interview, whether questioning the assault victim known as the “Central Park Jogger” or billionaire industrialist Ross Perot, who in 1992 rocked the presidential contest by announcing his candidacy on King’s show. In its early years, “Larry King Live” was based in Washington, D.C., which gave the show an air of gravitas. Likewise King. He was the plainspoken go-between through whom Beltway bigwigs could reach their public, and they did, earning the show prestige as a place where things happened, where news was made. King conducted an estimated 50,000 on-air interviews. In 1995 he presided over a Middle Ea...
