DAVE LOMBARDO: How I Almost Joined MEGADETH In 1987

Dave Lombardo was recently interviewed on “Speak N’ Destroy”, a podcast about all things METALLICA, hosted by longtime journalist and METALLICA fan Ryan J. Downey. During the lengthy chat, the former SLAYER drummer once again confirmed that he came close to joining MEGADETH nearly three and a half decades ago as the replacement for Gar Samuelson. Dave said: “A funny story — I was going to join MEGADETH when I left SLAYER the first time in ’86… It was very much on the down low. And probably [MEGADETH mainman Dave] Mustaine doesn’t remember this. But they had opened up for Alice Cooper during the ‘Peace Sells’ tour. And I went to the Long Beach Arena [in March 1987], and I met with the guys. I believe that the main issue at that time was when I...

Apple Mulls Podcast Subscription Push Amid Spotify’s Land Grab

Now, however, Apple’s position as the top platform for podcast listening is being threatened as the company faces heated competition from tech and media giants including Spotify, Amazon and SiriusXM. In the years since it first added podcast support, Apple also has placed an emphasis on its growing services business, through which it already offers subscription products for music, television, video games and fitness videos. But Apple will have to proceed carefully as it explores introducing subscriptions to podcasting, a business that has long been funded largely through advertising sales. Many longtime podcasters are vocal supporters of keeping the medium free and widely accessible, and listeners have yet to show a strong appetite for paid podcast services like two-year-old startup Lumina...

Weezer Announce New Album OK Human Is Coming Next Week

Since 2019, Weezer have been teasing a pair of albums that would be “in mortal combat” with each other. The first, the metal-inspired Van Weezer, was set to arrive last year, but was postponed due to the pandemic. While that LP has now secured a May 7th release date, it looks like the band’s other project, OK Human, will hit first — and soon, as Weezer has announced it’s coming out next week. After forcing fans through a series of captcha on their website to get advanced word on the release date, Weezer confirmed that OK Human is set for release on January 29th. They also revealed the lead single, “All My Favorite Songs”, will arrive this Thursday, January 21st. Frontman Rivers Cuomo previously described the album (a clear play on Radiohead’s classic OK Computer) as “totally different” fro...
