New Radicals will reunite after 22 years to perform at Joe Biden’s inaugural parade. Rolling Stone reports the band will perform their signature hit “You Get What You Give” to close the virtual “Parade Across America” on Wednesday, January 20th. During the presidential campaign, “You Get What You Give” was used as the walk-out song for Vice President-elect Kamala Harris’ husband Doug Emhoff. The song was also beloved by President-elect Biden’s late son, Beau, and became something of a personal theme song for him as he battled cancer. “During breakfast, Beau would often make me listen to what I thought was his theme song, ‘You Get What You Give’ by the New Radicals,” Biden wrote in his 2017 memoir Promise, Me Dad. “Even though Beau never stopped fighting and his will to live was stronger th...
In a reunion few could have seen coming, long-dormant and reclusive alt-rock band New Radicals will be performing (virtually) for the first time in 22 years at the upcoming Biden inauguration, according to Rolling Stone. The band’s seminal “You Only Get What You Give” is a song with great meaning to President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris. The latter’s husband, Doug Emhoff, used the song to come on stage. As for Biden, in his memoir, Promise Me, Dad, the president-elect wrote how the song became synonymous with his late-son Beau’s battle with cancer. “During breakfast, Beau would often make me listen to what I thought was his theme song, ‘You Get What You Give’ by the New Radicals,” Biden wrote in his 2017 memoir Promise Me, Dad. “Even though Beau ne...
Pomegranate For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, flowing forth in valleys and hills; a land of wheat and barley, of vines and fig trees and pomegranates, a land of olive oil and honey. (Deuteronomy 8:7-8)Tasty, messy and just recently gaining ground in the American market these past few years, several research studies have shown that pomegranates contain strong anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, anti-obesity and anti-tumor properties. According to researchers, “Many beneficial effects are related to the presence of ellagic acid, flavonoids, anthocyanins, and flavones, which seem to be its most therapeutically beneficial components.” Subsequently, pomegranates are being considered valid treatment options for chronic disea...
Dave Lombardo was recently interviewed on “Speak N’ Destroy”, a podcast about all things METALLICA, hosted by longtime journalist and METALLICA fan Ryan J. Downey. During the lengthy chat, the former SLAYER drummer reflected on famously filling in for Lars Ulrich during METALLICA‘s performance at Download festival in England in June 2004. He said (hear audio below): “I remember being approached by SLAYER‘s manager, and he just basically said, ‘Hey, Dave, we have a bit of a crisis. Lars can’t make the show.’ And I was, like, ‘Okay, what’s going on?’ And they asked if I’d be interested. I don’t know if he said if I’m interested in doing the [full] set or a few songs — whatever — but I took one look at t...
Legendary rock band MÖTLEY CRÜE is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. It was January 17, 1981 when Nikki Sixx first jammed with Tommy Lee and vocalist/guitarist Greg Leon. Leon left, Mick Mars and Vince Neil were recruited. The rest, as they say, is history… Commented Sixx: “In ‘Kickstart My Heart’, the lyrics say, ‘When we started this band / All we needed, needed was a laugh / Years gone by, I’d say we’ve kicked some ass.’ “It’s always been about great songs and over-the-top live shows for us. The fans were always right by our side. I don’t know where all of the years went. It went by in a flash. What I can’t forget are the four decades of fans who have counted themselves as Crüeheads from day one, supporting us t...
During a recent appearance on “Vox&Hops”, the podcast hosted by Matt McGachy, frontman of extreme metal band CRYPTOPSY, Peter Iwers, who runs a brewery called Odd Island Brewing with his ex-IN FLAMES bandmate Daniel Svensson and owns the Gothenburg restaurant 2112 with IN FLAMES guitarist Björn Gelotte, was asked if he ever misses being on the road. The bassist replied (see video below): “Yeah, absolutely. Well, ‘miss’ is kind of the wrong word. I loved being on the road for most of the years that I was with [IN FLAMES], and I miss the good times. I have no regrets as far as leaving, but, of course, sometimes I really miss just being free and out and playing shows and traveling to new places every day. But I have plans. Maybe this will happen again in the ...
According to WISH TV, ICED EARTH guitarist Jon Schaffer has been taken into custody in connection with the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. The musician, who resides in Columbus, Indiana, turned himself in to authorities around 3 p.m. Sunday (January 17), Chris Bavender, public affairs specialist for the FBI Indianapolis Field Office, said. On January 8, the FBI‘s Washington Field Office released 40 photos of people who were suspected of unlawful entry during a violent insurrection at the U.S. Capitol carried out on January 6 during the final Congressional vote recording for the 2020 general election. Among them was a picture of Schaffer taken by Roberto Schmidt of AFP. In the photo, Schaffer could be seen at the front of a mob, sporting a hat from Oath Keepers, an anti-government m...
Before I lay into the Democrats for missed opportunities at the House impeachment hearing, let’s review a few facts from the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection: President Trump told his crowd of his supporters that he would walk with them to the Capitol to disrupt the election certification. He said, “If you don’t fight like hell, you’re not going to have a country anymore.” So, they walked to the Capitol and they fought. They brought pipe bombs, metal pipes, bear spray, sledgehammers, baseball bats, knives, flex cuffs, tasers, riot gear, Confederate battle flags, Nazi paraphernalia, Trump merch, and a noose. Trump bailed on walking to the Capitol with his supporters. Instead, he went home, watched TV, and trolled Vice President Mike Pence. Trump’s supporters, per his urging to fight, overwhelmed...
Editor’s Notes: Consequence has finally been around long enough that so many of the new albums that originally turned us on to music are now celebrating their first milestone anniversaries. As we begin to reflect on these records, you can catch our updated assessments here. The first time I heard Mumford & Sons was at the 37th Telluride Bluegrass Festival. I was 14, had just finished middle school, and was in a band that played shitty covers of Audioslave and Death Cab for Cutie in our drummer’s basement. I wasn’t exactly a music doyen, but I remember everyone around me, even my parents — Telluride had become something of a family pastime — were impressed by the set. There was something undeniably endearing about Marcus Mumford’s gravelly baritone, his black vest (soon to become a stap...
Ronnie Spector has issued a statement addressing the death of her ex-husband, record producer and convicted murderer Phil Spector. The statement was posted to Ronnie’s Instagram page and reads: It’s a sad day for music and a sad day for me When I was working with Phil Spector, watching him create in the recording studio, I knew I was working with the very best. He was in complete control, directing everyone. So much to love about those days. Meeting him and falling in love was like a fairytale. The magical music we were able to make together, was inspired by our love. I loved him madly, and gave my heart and soul to him. As I said many times while he was alive, he was a brilliant producer, but a lousy husband. Unfortunately Phil was not able to live and function outside of the recording st...
Marianne Faithfull was one of the lucky musicians who recovered from COVID-19 after contracting the virus last year, but that doesn’t mean she was left unharmed by it. In a new interview, the “As Tears Go By” singer revealed that her battle with coronavirus stripped her of her singing voice and it’s unclear if she will ever get it back. Last April, Faithfull was hospitalized in London after testing positive for COVID-19. She bounced back relatively quickly considering she was 73 years old at the time, and was prescribed “palliative care only” following the end of her 22-day stay in the hospital. Initially it seemed like a miracle because Faithfull wasn’t expected to survive. But now, she’s dealing with the downsides of overcoming it — terrible permanent effects like intense fatigue, short-...
