Willie Nelson has had a great week. On Wednesday, the 87-year-old received his first round of the COVID-19 vaccine, and today he’s sharing the title-track from his upcoming Frank Sinatra tribute album, That’s Life. The song was originally recorded by by Marion Montgomery in 1963, but it became a standard in Sinatra’s catalog after he performed it in 1966. For Nelson’s rendition, the country icon adds wailing harmonica and sleek slide guitar over the sparse lounge arrangement, creating this unique meld between Rat Pack pop classicism and twangy Americana. The accompanying lyric video sees the lines of the song appear over footage of illustrator Paul Mann painting the album’s cover art, which depicts Nelson standing in the glow of a streetlight with his signature guitar, Trigger. As an independent publication with a deep foundation in live music, Consequence of Sound wanted to do our part to support the many venues facing hardship during pandemic. That’s why we were thrilled to see so many of our fans stepping up to aid the struggling concert industry by purchasing our “Protect Live Music” benefit long sleeve shirt. To keep the momentum going, we’re proud to launch a second version of the design, with proceeds once again going towards independent music venues in their recovering efforts. Designed again by Steve Fiche, “Protect Live Music Version 2” features new original art that pays tribute to everyone’s favorite concert activity: moshing. The piece was created as a tribute to the continuing hope we may all see a return to independent venues sooner rather than lat...

If you care at all about democracy and the way our world works, you should be watching Real Time with Bill Maher. As January 2021 marks the show’s 19th season, it’s one of the most in-demand shows on air. With good reason. What the world needs now—right now—is someone brave enough to fight for the truth. Someone who will put himself out there, be willing to be despised as much as he’s revered, and say the things that make us ponder and squirm. From religion to healthcare, mass media to political correctness, Maher enlists experts to help start the all-essential conversations. He leaves it up to you, the thinker, to do the rest. Nineteen seasons, FYI, doesn’t happen to any TV show by accident. Before Real Time there was his round-table, idea mosh pit Politically Incorrect (1993 – 2001...

“34+35” was already one of the explicit standouts from Ariana Grande’s Positions album, allowing the pop superstar to express her sexual freedom while hitting the top 10 of the Hot 100. With this new remix, Grande has called upon two masters of the double entendre: Doja Cat and Megan Thee Stallion both cruise over the beat and offer some righteous witticisms in their verses, while also each referencing the desire to keep their neighbors up. Selena Gomez, “De Una Vez” Last year, Selena Gomez reflected on her success with her Rare album in a Billboard interview, while also stating that she planned to “challenge” herself on her next project. “De Una Vez,” Gomez’s first Spanish-language song in nearly a decade, certainly delivers upon that ambition: whether or not the song previews a larger pr...
